@easilyunamused DS1 was like that at this age. If we weren't holding him, he could occupy himself for about four minutes and then cue the fussing/crying. It could also be leap 9 which has been a doozy for us. At almost 4, DS1 is still not great at independent play. I do think leap 9 is a culprit too and we still have 5 days left. I wish the crying didn’t affect me so much, I’m just left feeling so exhausted.

Good luck to me to ever wean.

So M had her 14 month today(I thought most places do 15 month but ok) and she grew an inch and gained a pound in a month so growing nicely! She is behind on speech but advanced in motor skills that she wasn’t overly concerned. She said it should be about 5-10 words at this point which seemed like a lot to me but my first was a late talker so I guess I wouldn’t really a difference. She said give it a month and if it doesn’t pick up, maybe look into EI evaluation.

Oh. I guess that’s five. But doesn’t seem like it. 🤷🏻♀️ If you ask dh he says mama and dada. He can’t wrap his head around the fact that his pronunciation isn’t perfect so to him “no that’s not doggy. No that’s not thank you” 😒

Yesterday he randomly held open his arms and said up at an appropriate time so....who knows. That's 4 words but I'm not dwelling on it. And while J isnt walking yet he has some more advanced motor skills. I laugh when he plays on his belly, props himself up on his elbows and plays because ethe physical therapist at work does this with 4 and 5 year olds and they sometimes struggle. I know early intervention is great ( sped teacher here) but I think unless a kid is really delayed I'd wait until 18 months so they understand more.

Toddler H only has mama, dada, and hi consistently and then a few others and is 14 months. But I'm not worried. I remember ds1 not saying much at all until a little after 18 months.

Ugh. Guys. I feel so inadequate. Noah just doesn’t listen to dh or me. He listens to our nanny but not us at all. We say no he does it anyway. We say stop he keeps going. He KNOWS what we are saying- he looks at us and smiles or laughs and keeps doing whatever it is. He refuses to hold our hands when walking down the street. It’s a fight to grab his arm but our nanny says he holds his hand out for her bc he knows he has to hold her hand. I try the same thing and nothing. He won’t sit still for me at any storytime. Even the librarian and another mom agreed today at storytime - they’re like “yeahhh he definitely tends to sit more when he’s here with your nanny. She seems to be able to control him better.” Which, I already knew but damn. Like why does he just not listen to me 😔
I already have working mom guilt so I try to let some things go bc I’m like eh it’s not worth makinghim upset about this but there are times I have to put my foot down and he just goes apeshit on me. I feel terrible. Like how do I set boundaries and enforce discipline? Like, if he pushes a kid or doesn’t sit enough I could just say ok done let’s go home. But that’s crappy bc I want him to learn from musical storytime and he needs to interact with other kids and run his energy out. But then how do I discipline him if I don’t take something away? 😔

<snip > I'm such an idiot bc one day I realized, wait his infant seat maxes out at 30 inches and he's 31 inches. He's been a little better since we switched to the convertible seat. He also gets mad if you eat anything without offering him some. D has loved riding the car since we switched her to her new carseat. Such a relief!
Also, yup, D wants a snack also when daddy is snacking! It is cute lol but also annoying at times cause MH snacks day round and I dont want D to do the same!

I know it’s frustrating but all you can do is keep redirecting and encouraging good behavior and hope for the best lol. Kids literally have a mind of their own and typically DGAF 🤷🏻♀️ Please don’t feel inadequate, I promise you are not 💕

addymac What jt2378 said. My kids also behave way worse for me than for teachers or friends. What made me feel a little better is several people have told me that's because Mom is their safe space, like a big comfy pillow to run to and let it all out. It's not that he doesn't respect you (although I don't think a 1 year old can respect yet), but that he feels so safe with you and may even still think he's part of you. I usually redirect. I like natural consequences. When they are a little older, I think completely removing them from the activity and going home is a good way to make it sink in that misbehaving stops the fun. (Even though it sucks bc I wanted to do the fun thing too). I think 14 months may be too young for that to be effective, so with toddler H I just redirect him from the negative behavior each time (which sucks). From your description, you are a great Mom. What he's doing sounds really normal.

R doesn’t listen. She loves getting in cabinets and will not stop. She loves throwing food on the floor. She loves taking her bib off. Girl doesn’t care if you say “no,” if you move her, if you redirect... girl does what girl wants to do. addymac kids are assholes. I don’t think he’d listen any better if you didn’t work - although, I guess you wouldn’t know that it appears he listens for your nanny better. Also, it’s easier for her to let things roll since it’s not her kid, like how it is for grandparents.

addymac ar this age even if they do understand it's hard for them to not want what they want and it's hard to discipline them with success. You are a good mom and those people that told you N behaves better for your nanny suck.

Oh man addymac, please don’t feel inadequate. It’s not you- it’s this age! 12-18ish months sucks behavior wise- they understand a lot but not enough. Just redirect, redirect, redirect. L shakes her head no and laughs at me every time I tell her that- it’s frustrating since she has a habit of dangerous climbing. (Like hanging from the oven door handle...) Eventually they get it, it just takes a lot of time.

DS is miserably sick. So it’s probably coming soon for the rest of us. We also close on our new house next week so I’m hastily packing boxes and doing all the move prep in my free moments. We’ve been very go, go, go for like 2 months with no stopping anytime soon. I just want to starfish a bed for like a week and watch a bunch of TV. 😩

At least you caught it now. pennylane oh no. I hope the rest of you are spared. Ugh good luck with moving. Moving is theeese worrrrrrssssttttt. Thanks everyone for your kind words and affirmations. It’s just hard when I hear how good a boy he is but then he’s so wild with me. Oh well. It is what it is and I’ll keep working on my stern mom voice haha. I am ready to ignore the dishes in the sink and just drink a beer and go to bed.

addymac I can stop severe behavior kids at school with a single look but my kid just laughs or tantrums when I tell him no so.... Omg YES. I mean I don’t do that with my babies at work 🤣 but that’s basically my life with babies at work vs when N was a newborn at home. When N was a newborn I was like this will be easy. Just like my babies at work he’ll be on a good q4 schedule. He will sleep well. He will be this and that. And he just laughed in my face from day one. 🤣😭 We went to the children’s museum today and it was AMAZING! I am so happy the Chicago libraries have these passes that give you discounted or free admission to so many museums bc they’re amazing and then when I only have to pay for parking it’s so much more manageable financially to frequently do things. And I always find cheaper parking - like at this museum it’s $30 flat rate all day fee. Bish, imma be there TWO hours. I’m not paying $30 for 2 hours. So I parked down the street for $8 for 2h. So we walk ten min but Noah loves city streets and we save $22! Suckers!

Hi guys! I know I've been MIA forever and ever and I'm sorry. Life just got crazier and crazier and I just needed to step away for a bit. I'm trying hard to catch up with you all and will make a real effort to be a better bmb member. I miss you all. I hope you'll have me back! Reading all your posts about the tantrums and not listening really make me feel better. M has started having some epic meltdowns lately and I was like, isn't she way too young for this? Glad to see I'm not alone. Also, addymac, M does not listen to us AT ALL but is so good at DC and they all say she's an angel. When MH and I tell her no she just laughs and keeps going. Sometimes, before she does something she knows she's not supposed to do she looks at me and says "no, no" and then does it!

So instead of going out on a lunchdate with my mom and sister on Friday, I got stranded at half a mile from home with a flat tire. Took me all friggin afternoon to get that sorted, endless waiting to get towed and what not UGH! But, the rest of the weekend was better. MHs birthday was yesterday and even though my plans to prep things on Friday were spoiled, I did manage to bake an applepie Sat morning (which turned out awesome! Go me, esp. since this was the 3rd applepie I ever baked haha) and we had people visit all day which was busy but lovely. Today I was able to take a nap this afternoon which I desperately needed and made all the difference - I been feeling extremely run down lately and have been in bed by 8.30pm every night this past week. This evening I tried a new recipe for dinner which was really yummie and MH said he wants me to make this more often:) Daphne is finally feeling better again as well after having been so sick for over a week. She still is coughing but apart from that is back to her old self. Except for the fact she wants to be glued to me all the friggin time (leap 9 yup) and ahh just like the rest of you toddlers she won't listen to us say no but will just laugh and continue on. MH is changing teams at work, which hopefully will make him hate his job a bit less.. it's not been great for a while now and it's wearing him (and me) down. Not much else going on worth mentioning I don't think.... I am forever still trying to get on here regularly and to join in on things again but while I do manage to read it just seems impossible still to write a lot. Tapa has been wonky for me for a few months now and I just don't get behind the pc much at all

Thanks muscari! I think of you and D often too! Glad you're doing well. My new job is ok. I have been struggling so much with finding a good work life balance. On the days I work I don't get to see M at all, so that has been very, very tough for me. It's only 3 days a week so I still have 4 with her, but the working mom guilt is weighing so heavy on me. That's one of the reasons I haven't been able to keep up as much here. Because whenever I'm home I feel like I need to spend all my time with her to make up for it!
