Ya’all I’m stuck here overnight. Come entertain me with tales of your littles. This will be the first night away from DD2 as well. She’ll be fine but I miss my babies and totally get what my mom used to say about having everyone home at night together.
I don’t know what I’d do without the Internet. DD1 has no interest in the preloaded kids movies on TV and she doesn’t know most kids shows because she is all Thomas and Daniel Tiger. We’ve watched 6 or so hours of it now as there’s nothing else to do here. I was told a child’s life specialist lady was going to come around with books and toys and whatnot but we have seen her. I need to stay away from Amazon though because the shopping draw is strong as I sit here thinking about upcoming holidays.
Anyway, come tell me about your littles. All of you. I’m stuck here at least 12 more hours.

danvers well, not a terribly exciting tale to tell but I'll update anyway hah. NY state early intervention has been very prompt and easy to work with, which has been nice. They called the day after my pedi put in her referral, once as a follow up to confirm my details (address, ect) and once more today with the coordinator. We set up our initial meeting for Monday morning at 9 am. She said she doesn't need to see E then, since the meeting is just paperwork, consents and insurance stuff. At that appt, I will be able to choose our evaluator and get started with the actual evaluation. The coordinator said it sounded like ev would qualify for the EI program based on the things I told her. Sigh. I dont know why i feel so down about this, I know it's not a reflection on E or myself or anything but I'm still bummed. I guess it just feels like I'm failing her. Anyway, Danvers, I hope you find something entertaining in the hospital. Overnight is the worst. Did you find food?

Oh danvers , that stinks. LO's favorite game is peekaboo. DS1 was building a micro blanket tent in the living room the other day. LO was curious and trying to peek in and DS1 kept peeking out. They played peekaboo for I don't know how long. The belly laughs were the best. I was so torn between watching and trying to fix supper while they were playing together and not underfoot. LO has learned how to imitate the sounds of "Ought oh". He likes to chuck his water cup, flinch before it even hits the floor because he knows what's coming, and then says something along the lines of "ought oh!". It's pretty cute.

Anyway, Danvers, I hope you find something entertaining in the hospital. Overnight is the worst. Did you find food? DD1 qualifies for EI for speech and eating therapy. I was kind of crished because all three of SILs kids are in speech and I silently judged that it was her fault because she didn’t read to them, stuck them in front of the tv, etc and I knew better because I was a teacher and I was doing all the “right” things with DD1, after all H and I were both teachers with special education backgrounds so we knew what to do Ha. Joke was on us because DD1 was like 2 standard deviations behind in speech and communication by 15 months and DD2 may be headed down the same path. Anyway, EI turned her speech (and eating) around. She has done nothing but tell the nurses long and detailed stories every time they come in the room. The therapist gave us homework to do every week when she visited. We paid next to nothing. DD1 loved the extra attention and at this age it’s all play based. At 3 in my state our EI kids get kicked to the public school system, which I totally support and teach in and all the jazz, but the services are not play based and way less fun. That is to say, it’s way easier both to get services and for kids to enjoy doing the therapy stuff now then later. E will do great. Totally not a reflection on you. Besides, don’t your want to see all the sassy looks E will give the therapist?!

DD2s favorite game it to chuck stuff from her high chair when she’s done and say “uh oh”. It is her only word and it makes me laugh which does not help.

We bought so many party decorations for Ms party on Sunday. Dh is downstairs right now putting them all up I think. Her actual bday is tomorrow and I just can't believe it. She is teething pretty hard this past week so we're getting in all the snuggles. Had to give her tylenol tonight. Hopefully tomorrow is better!

I am freaking out about last minute stuff I still need to do and get for the party Saturday. And I work all day then take DS1 to a Halloween party til 8pm. I’m having to rely heavily on H and he is not the best with time management.

danvers Oh no! I haven’t seen my baby much this week so I don’t have many stories. She did start pointing but she hasn’t started directing it at much. She is transitioning very well so at least that’s good. And her dance moves are excellent, I wish I could post a video. cythe You are not failing E, you are doing all the right things! Mom guilt is a powerful thing but don’t feel like it’s your fault. Sounds like the ball is rolling and once they do an assessment you’ll get a better idea of the situation.

The IL’s are coming Wednesday and staying for 2 weeks... it was supposed to 10 days, I have no idea where everyone is sleeping. We have 3 bedrooms, one queen, one crib and one double. Oh and a playpen. At least I’m gone for 6.5 of those days and working at least 3 of them.
Hospital called us back with DD1’s test results and she is 100% celiac. I’m going to have to start packing her food for daycare and I’m thinking I’m going to wait until I come back from my work trip to switch her food there. How do I even explain this to her? I’ll look up resources in the morning but this stinks. I know it’s not life threatening but it stinks to know your crappy genetics cause your kid to have health issues.

curmudgeon I am also freaking out about her party. I blame it on my indecisiveness. At least the decor is up. It went from mermaid theme to pumpkins to general fall theme and back to mermaid. 🤷♀️ now to solidify the menu.

August Blooms I uh.... have a hard time “liking” a post regarding a visit from anyone’s in-laws for 10 days. However, I am glad there is some deitide definitive answers on your DD1’s condition. I tend to make switches like that abruptly and all at once, like pulling off a bandaid. Hopefully you can find some close substitutes in the beginning to help.

danvers I’m sorry you ended up having to stay overnight ☹️. I hope your DS is discharged in the morning! Sorry for the boring salad too. cythe You are a great mom, and don’t let yourself think for one second that you are failing E. We all have our natural strengths and weaknesses, and I’m all about using resources when you need them! I am so glad to hear NY’s EI seems to have its act together too. I am sure E will love the play-based interactions- she will do great. August Blooms Thoughts and prayers on the impending IL visit. Eeeeeeek. codex320 Did you end up going to that birthday party your LO was invited to by a daycare friend? That was you, right? Hope it was fun! Good luck with your party!

Packing today for our 4 day trip to the beach tomorrow. I am looking forward to relaxing a bit...we’ve had so much going on, and our lives will only get busier as the holidays approach. Our Halloween party now has 47 confirmed guests (22 kids and 25 adults) - so that should be....fun....gulp. Word got out about the party and lots of people were dropping hints that they wanted invites too. I feel bad leaving people out. I am sure it’s going to be a good time though.
We have friends from the USA visiting at the end of this month (they will stay a week or two) with their 2 yr old, and we’re doing a 20 person Thanksgiving at our place, and then the ILs come in early Dec for a week.
Looooots of hosting and entertaining happening in our near future. I’m looking forward to it - but I’m also scared 🤣😂😅

Hoping to break free with DD1 soon. She’s less enthusiastic about eating and drinking but she’s doing it. We got ok sleep last night. Up every 3 hours... you know, like with a newborn. I’m less enthusiastic about the idea of a third right now. Lots of broken sleep lately,, looming hospital bills, general life craziness...
Our school is officially on fall break right now so I have the next week off to be with DD1 as she recovers. DD1 is going to daycare. I have guilt about it but sending her will allow me to focus on DD1 and getting some of the house in order, maybe weed and get the outside ready for winter (pretty sure I haven’t weeded all summer!), and sleep myself.

Should I try to keep her food close to what they serve? I don’t know, I guess we will just try and see how it goes. Have they let you go home yet?

Taitai Have you picked out your costumes yet? And that sounds busy!!! I’m boring and I think I’m just going to be a cat. DS1 will be a pilot and so will DH. I don’t have anything for DS2 yet. It’s sooooo hot here - I don’t want to put him in something that he’s going to be uncomfortable and hot in. I need to get my act together and figure something out! Welcome ideas from O17!!!

Taitai, the party is next saturday. I'll let you know how it goes! As for costumes, I'm no help. A vacation sounds so nice right about now! August Blooms, Also no help with the gluten free foods. I think as long as she is eating food and not feeling sick from it she will be alright. Sorry she got the diagnosis but I'm glad you have an answer!

It does kind of suck, but once you get in the groove it is ok. Will they heat food for her? We just send leftovers for DS1's lunch. I batch cook on the weekend a lot, and any meal we make is at least doubled since we all take lunches to daycare/work. I wouldn't worry about matching what they're serving the other kids - that is a lot on you to plan around.

By elementary school, I’d say a good third to half my class the last couple of years has packed. Nobody bats an eye. DD1 just told me the other day a handful of her friends in daycare pack but other than that initial observation, that was it. I say whatevers easiest to you and whatever she will eat.

So our heat was acting funny the last few days. Our house is controlled by 3 thermostats, and one wasn't working at all. So we called a guy to come look at it.
Everything is going well, we expected it was a valve or a thermostat issue and it turns out it was a valve. Great! Guy goes out to his truck, replaces the valve everything is good.
Then he starts doing a once over on the boiler (it's a gas fueled baseboard water system) and he points out a valve that isnt supposed to be there and that at some point it would need to be replaced because it will cause the pilot light to fail. He said at the moment, the pilot light is running 24/7 and that means it's not functioning correctly.
So guy shuts off the pilot light to do the rest of the maintenance on it aaaaand when he fires it up, the pilot light wont start.
So that valve that would need to be replaced "sometime in the future" is now. And now = $1183. Ugh.

cythe, when it rains, it pours. First of all, getting EI for her is great parenting. I have a cousin who i judge harshly for not using it when her kid almost hit 2 with only a handful of words and not walking. Not because he didn't learn these things on his own, but because she didn't try to help him. I needed speech therapy, and I'm a reasonably successful adult. Secondly, I'm so sorry about your heating. We need to get someone out to see what's wrong with ours because the vent in DS2's room doesn't work, and it's only getting colder at night.

After 48 hours of weird nursing and pumping and all sorts of hospital shenanigans, I had massive enforcement and clogs and so help me if I get mastitis after all this I’ll be ticked. DD2 has been nursing all afternoon because I’m shoving a boob in her face all the time and she’s like been humoring me but only nurses a few minutes. I’m going to try a heating pad later.
My new nursing goal is to make it through cold and flu season. Do I think beeastmilk has some magical healing - ha. DD2 is one of sickest kids at school and I’ve breastfed sinc day1 (so no). It is easier though to get fluid in this way and we can probably safely assume she’ll be sick again. If we don’t make it past this weekend or next month of whenever, no big deal. But I don’t think I’m going to try and actively wean till after Marchish.

cythe That stinks but think of it this way at least it’s done now and the pilot light isn’t at risk going out in a January cold snap when everyone’s furnace breaks at the same time. danvers Commiseration like, it’s taken a few days but my boobs have adjusted to no daytime nursing. I have to travel in a week for a week and hope that the baby will still want to nurse because I have the same goal as you. When DD goes to kindergarten in September I will have to pack a lunch as the schools here don’t do hot lunches. I’m just overthinking this as per usual lol
