H and DS1 carved a pumpkin tonight. DS1 drew the face on it and it turned out good! DS2 spent all day sleeping. I think he was awake for maybe 6 hours? I introduced DS to hopscotch and he thinks it’s the best game ever.

Oh, we got DS2’s Halloween costume today. A chicken. I can’t wait to put him in it.

It’s Thanksgiving weekend so DH has Monday off and tomorrow my mom is cooking a big dinner tomorrow. Tonight we are heading to one of DH’s relative birthday. They are doing a big 10 course Chinese dinner with entertainment since it’s a milestone birthday. What’s in the 10 courses? Do you get to help prepare? I don’t like to cook, but I do enjoy helping to prepare jiaozi (dumplings).

I may kill my husband this weekend. I know his back hurts but the man can at least wake up and be in the same room as us when I'm doing 100% of the parenting. Like, it's almost 9 am and hes still asleep. Yesterday he napped while E was awake and then magically woke up just as she was being put down for a nap.
Like, I can't even.

I’d have woken up H by now and told him to do some parenting. But that’s just me.

If H isn’t awake by the time I finish nursing the baby in the mornings, then we all get to jump in the bed and have daddy surprise wake up time. Any time after 7:30am is fair game.

Extra points if you can figure out that relation lol Shes at a lot of the family gatherings we go to and is very sweet even though her English isn’t amazing and always gives a red envelope on special occasions. I didn’t get to help prepare but there was a deep fried shrimp ball, rice dish, noodle dish, Peking duck, roast pig, corn soup, white fish, a vegetarian dish with these carmelized mushrooms that were super amazing, lobster and abalone with bok choy. And of course dessert. They had dragon dancers and the daughters of one of the guests did this traditional dance with fans and ribbons which was really great. We were seated with some other cousins around our age which was fun.

I’m not going to lie when and how long my husband sleeps is the main reason for 90% of our fights since I’ve been on maternity leave. It totally sucks, you deserve a break.

I think I’ve mentioned it before but H and I trade off on weekends for who gets to sleep in. It may sound completely juvenile to have an “assigned” day but it works great for us and has cut down on some fights about sleeping in or sleeping later. H wants to stay up till midnight or later playing video games with his buddy? Great, he knows he still has to get up at whatever time the girls get up the next day if it’s his turn. Today was his morning so I nursed DD2 on wake up, handed her off, and crawled back under the covers for two more hours.
We’re still working on the rest of the “division of labor” thing 😑

Ive been doing some serious self-care lately and haven’t been checking in as much as I want to.
Self-Care has recently included: - sleeping in today - a nap today (both girls down at the same time!) - staying up till midnight last night reading - letting things “go” at work that don’t need to be perfect - talking to my mom more frequently and catching up - finding a new podcasts to listen to - watching TV and not doing school work at the same time
I’m not sure all of this is sustainable but it’s helped as of late. H will start bball season soon and I’m going need to find ways to do some of these things while solo parenting. Work has really been warring on me and just general adult stuff has been a lot to keep up with. It’s not been a great headspace to be so I’m really working on keeping some things for me

danvers Self care is so important, I hope you’ll be able to find something that you can do for yourself when you’re solo parenting.

I bought one of those holiday window projector things that makes it look like a witch or Santa is in your house. Best purchase ever. H just set it up tonight and it has brought everyone a lot of joy already. Adding a blurry dark pic-

When we aren't in football season, DH typically gets up with the boys on Saturdays so I can sleep in a bit. He also cooks breakfast on weekends. Since I get the boys up and out the door solo on weekdays, he cuts me some slack on weekend mornings.
On the weekend, if I nurse LO and then he's up for the day, we go snuggle and play in bed with daddy. Then DS1 comes in when he wakes up. Those are some of our favorite times.

Hello everyone! Happy thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! We are celebrating in a couple weeks since my whole family is away now anyways. DH and I are hanging in the dark hotel room while our kids sleep. He is watching football on mute and I am playing on my phone. One more day at Disney land tomorrow and then we head home. We took the day off from the parks today and I spent the morning at the pool with DD while DH hung out in the room with a napping DS. He has been a real trooper napping in the carrier or stroller at Disney but they are shorter than normal naps and he was so tired. He took almost 4 hours of naps today!

We absolutely take turns getting up with the kids too. No way am I getting up early solo every morning while DH stays in bed. The exception being if DH was out late volunteering at a church youth event then I will get up with the kids even if it’s his turn because I feel like that’s a different being up late situation and I support him being there so 🤷♀️
DH is still a work in progress with DS on his mornings though haha. DD was and is happy to read books or play quietly so they were often in the upstairs bonus room. DS however will come down the hall and bang on the bedroom door if he knows I’m in there lol. I am trying to get Dh to take them downstairs instead but he keeps forgetting 🙄

curmudgeon, that Nordstrom thing sounds really interesting...must share what you get. CoachTsWife, lil fella is the same! I can't even get his diaper on properly. I have a collection of toys by the changing pad and I'll just keep giving him stuff until he finds one that will hold his interest for 3 seconds for me to clean and get his diaper on. I too do not remember this with DS but something tells me he was the same and I just do not remember. doodlemommy, August Blooms, Happy Thanksgiving! Sounds like you both had a good time even though not Thanksgiving related - Disney and 10 course dinner! I can totally taste all that food August Blooms, each dish is chosen for its significance.

cythe, you totally need a break especially since you've been solo parenting for quite a long while. I hope he got on the program today. Is your H home for a while before he gets deployed again? We never sleep in...we're weird, we rarely sleep in. 8 is considered sleeping in for us lol! Plus DS would bug the hell out of us so impossible even if we wanted to.

danvers, It's awesome that you're taking care of yourself. So important to just take a moment to decompress and offer yourself some mental clarity. I would love to get back to working out and pleasure reading but for now "making stuff" like sewing or knitting or currently making marzipan things for lil fella's cake calms me down for the night.

We had a pretty good weekend. DS and I went to one of his class mate's birthday party yesterday and it was at a trampoline place. At first when we got there DS was I think overwhelmed and he just clung on to me and refused to join his friends and wanted to go home. Eventually he became accustomed to the loudness and crowds ( there were lots of people including 2 other birthdays ) and had such a great time. I had a good time too, playing with his buddies and chatting with some parents I've only met briefly during pick ups/drops offs. Overall it was a great day hanging out with DS...I miss that one on one time with him. It was a cold and rainy day today so we just hung around at home and I got to spend time with lil fella instead so overall a nice weekend.

This is us too - neither of us ever sleeps in, and we are all up as a family around 6:30 -7am. Only exception is if one of us is really sick - like puking or having a fever. Then, that person gets quarantined 🤣😂 DH and I go to bed early though (9/9:30pm most nights), so we don’t really feel the need to sleep in). 🤷♀️
