Is anyone’s else finding 3 a hard age? She’s jealous of her sister, purposely not going to the bathroom, not listening, whining, obsessed with snacks when’s she’s home. It’s driving me crazy. She’s also dropped her nap. Next week she’s in full time daycare and the week after I’m back to work. It was a bad day and I’m feeling the mom guilt strongly.

A friend of mine who works in early education once said- “3 year olds are assholes. They are literally cute little psychopaths.” I just remind myself of that when things are rough. DS1 has definitely been a challenge this year. So much worse than 2 - the 2s were so easy compared to the 3s! ETA - I also highly recommend below book, which provides useful strategies for improving behavior. DS1 started being really defiant this summer, and he was basically trying to control the entire household. Newp. Below book was a very helpful read, and DS1’s behavior has gotten much better. He’s just a nicer kid in general - we still have issues of course, but way less than before. I am enjoying my relationship with him more ever since we started adopting strategies in the book too. Might be worth checking out: www.amazon.com/Kazdin-Method-Parenting-Defiant-Child/dp/0547085826

August Blooms I found 3 harder than 2 for sure. 4 is easier but there are still tough days. When he gets tired or hungry he’s a little monster.

6 hour drive today from Phoenix to Anaheim, leading up to 3 Disney park days in 5 days. Guess when my period started? This morning. Ugh.

Field Trip today! We were a chaperone short so I needed to take a group of boys around. It was actually fun. I enjoyed playing more of the “mom” role and less of the teacher role. Plus my 3 yr old has been acting like a fool like you alls lately so some 10 yr olds were a nice change of pace.

bootsorhearts1 we still use the motion sensor on our angelcare. I don’t care but it makes me sleep better. August Blooms whoever came up with terrible 2s obviously didn’t have a 3 yr old. It’s a rough age and they’re testing and pushing boundaries. Pedi said they’re essentially talking 2 yr olds. DS is 4 and slightly better about listening but still stubborn and argumentative and he talks back now so 🤷🏻♀️ However I can actually have good conversations with him now. OMG! The snacks is out of control. Snack before breakfast then after then before lunch then after then before dinner then after. One thing that has been working to get DS to listen is I tell him I’m going to count to 3,5,10 etc. to do whatever is asked of him and overtime it’s been working better. We’ve also started a misbehavior box where a toy goes in there whenever he doesn’t listen or misbehaves. He earns them back when he behaves and listens. This too has worked great and he’s learning there are consequences to his actions.

doodlemommy, yay to Disneyland. Nay for first PP period. I got mine a week ago too. Was hoping I could go as long as I did with DS which was 15 months.

Lil fella started a fever last night...I am hoping it's from the shots. His nose isn't running as much and he's a little lethargic this morning and my mom said he didn't eat much breakfast and she put him to nap cos he seemed sleepy so I decided to run errands after dropping DS off school and he was up when I got home so we nursed and he seems a little more energetic but still not himself. He slept a little better last night and so did I but still tired. I made appointments for my folks and DS for their flu shots next week so I'll be running all over town again next week and hoping to get mine in sometime then, I also got to get emissions inspection done on one of the cars too. Bah! At this point I'll just wait until lil fella's party before calling about work.

duskymonkey That’s a good idea about the misbehavior box. I may have to implement that. I have a feeling things will get a bit worse with my transition back to work. Is there something about half years? 2.5 was hard too, I remember having major issues around this time last year but that could have been because of DD2.

E babbled and cried for an hour in her crib at nap time, finally fell asleep and then my asshole neighbor zoomed by on his dirt bike and woke her up after only a half hour. So, basically its 4 PM and E has been awake since 11. 3 more hours until bedtime.......
Related - is everyone still on 2 naps?

cythe yes to two naps here still. If daycare kicks her from the nursery to the toddler room soon then she’ll have to drop the first nap on school days at least. DD1 dropped hers at 15 months seemlessly... which makes me feel like getting DD2 to drop hers eventually will be a nightmarish process 😬

cythe solidly on 2 naps over here too. DD dropped to 1 nap at 15/16 months on work days (when she napped at my parents/ILs) but still did 2 naps at home for a while longer. DS most definitely needs 2 naps still and is pretty rigid on the times. He is able to nap in a carrier if needed (aka at Disney) but won’t nap in the stroller and only in the car if he is way overtired and then it ends up being a short nap. Today he took 2 40 minute car naps on our drive and that was it. He was majorly whiny but Both kids crashed hard so hopefully they sleep well and are good to go tomorrow!

I learned today that when DS is overtired (aka only took 2 40 minute naps in the car on our drive today) he forgets how to walk apparently 😂 He was stumbling around and falling over and over, he looked drunk or something lol

DS1 had a great morning and was really easy at drop off for school. He was super grumpy last night and woke up like 4 times throughout the night, so I hope he can hold it together today. Why u no sleep DS1? You’re 3.5!!!
DS2, on the other hand, slept great! I’m thankful at least one of the kids had a good night. DH and I had a date night last night, and we split a bottle of rose prosecco. DH was such a champ to let me pick out the wine 😁. Anyways....I hardly ever have alcohol, so cue slight hangover this morning. It was a fun night though - we are tasty Italian food and enjoyed some adult time.
We decided to throw a big Halloween party at our place for DS1 and his friends. Anyone think of costumes yet😧 Should I start a Halloween thread? 🎃 👻

Yes to 2 naps Yes to my 3 year old making me want to tear my hair out. I've been reading "Kids Are Worth It" and loving the ideas. I've only tried it on a few problems, but they instantly defused, and I'm feeling good about it.

Def need 2 naps here! I'm excited for moving to 1 nap though, makes planning activities easier.
I'm taking LO to his one year visit this morning. 🤞 he doesn't feel too yucky after his shots. I'm home with the boys all day and then it is homecoming. I put a bug in MIL's ear that I might have LO stay home from the game and I hope she wants to keep him so I can still go. If that works out, it'll be the first time he'll get a bottle at bedtime instead of nursing. I'll have to pump when I get home, BUT I might actually see most of the game if I only have DS1 with me. We'll see what the day brings.

Still 2 naps - max an hour each. Lil fella refuses to sleep longer than 1 hour. CoachTsWife, YASSS! to 1 nap esp. with a tot. I remember thought the transition from 1 to 2 was rough. Falling asleep in the middle of meals and cranky mess even though DS refused am nap. Hope you get to go to the homecoming game this evening.

Lil fella is almost back to himself and have given a bunch of smiles. He slept much much better last night and so far this am no signs of a fever so really really hoping it was just from his shots. I still have a running list of stuff to get for the party next week - mostly food prep stuff and I decided to make hubs Guinness cake as well as lil fella's cake so there'll be 2 cakes next weekend! Hubs birthday is tomorrow so I'll make a nice dinner tomorrow night.

cythe Yes to 2 naps. One is usually short and the other long. bootsorhearts1 That sucks, I’m going to have to adjust my macros when I go back to work and am breastfeeding less, I’m not looking forward to it.

Looooong Friday. Full day of work stuff and then was able to sneak DD1 in for a quick flu shot at the Pedi. Took DD1 to our school carnival tonight too and she loved it. Now just trying to get the majority of the house in order before people come tomorrow for the bday party. So much school stuff to grade and whatnot since it’s the end of the quarter but it will have to wait till after tomorrow.

I have been super busy during the work day and nights are always a blur. I try to scan the threads but I just can’t keep up. I signed up for Nordstrom Trunk Club yesterday though! Has anyone else used this? I’m anxious to get my first shipment but damn they are asking so many questions. It’s taking me awhile to get back to them!

No styling fee if you have a Nordstrom card. I finally finished the Q&A so hopefully I can see their picks in a few days. I’m excited because I need help. Lol

Haven’t used it but I did use a Canadian version of stitch fix after I went back to work with DD1, since it was Canadian it was not amazing but I really enjoyed not thinking about outfits and kept a few things I wouldn’t normally pick out for myself.

It’s Thanksgiving weekend so DH has Monday off and tomorrow my mom is cooking a big dinner tomorrow. Tonight we are heading to one of DH’s relative birthday. They are doing a big 10 course Chinese dinner with entertainment since it’s a milestone birthday.

Maybe DS1 spoiled me, but LO does not like his diaper changed. He cries and squirms and twists and arches every.single.time. Drives me crazy.
Long day of solo parenting then getting everyone ready for family pictures. The session was good but exhausting, hoping for some decent shots.
Totally touched out and ready to be alone.
