I decided on having brunch— it gives me the excuse to make make Bloody Marys and mimosas, instead of just beer and wine. I’m going to make two startas, butternut squash soup, a fruit salad, poached salmon, a cheese board, and a spinach artichoke dip. I can’t get decent bagels around here, and it’s tacky of me to ask one of the guest (even though it is family) to pick them up for me back in New York, so I’m going to do a platter of croissants and crusty breads instead. I think the crusty bread will be nice with soup, anyway. Tell me when and where and I am there. Yum!

My family usually does stuff like this though, like I brought an appetizer to my niece's party yesterday and my sister will bring one to C's next week.

@jewls, they would never even give it a second thought, but I don’t want to have to deal with arranging them when they get here, and if there are ever any other parties without the people from my old area, I need to have another go to, so I might as well start trying to figure it out now.

I hear ya. It’s just got to be hard without good bagels around (definite 1st world problems).
Funny story - my MD in-laws always bring random food to us when they come visit. About 2 years ago, they went to some bakery and picked up bagels to bring, now every time they come here they bring bagels... i’m Like - you know where we live right?? I mean it’d be like if I brought crabs down to visit them, I just done understand it!

jewels, When my grandmother lived in Brooklyn, she’d come up every weekend with bagels (and a big giant chunks of parm and pecorino.) Like we couldn’t get those in Westchester, but she was right. The bagels were far superior even it her trip to us was just an hour and a half away.

If gladly take Brooklyn bagels any day, but sorry, MD bagels are not better than jersey bagels. Not even close. In fact whenever the rest of that family comes up, the first night they are in town they want pizza and/or Italian and the first morning, it’s bagels from the little corner bagel place up the street

Usually a full shopping bag of pastries, random food like chicken cutlets, etc. It’s nice but also sort of weird I have to be careful when I complement something at her house bc I know I’ll get it every time she visits!

Started sending out invites. Now the stress really begins. I emailed them to her friends who have moved on to kindergarten, tomorrow I'll put them in her classmates cubbies.

jewels my grandma does this too. She’ll give me a random box of nuts or something like that. I think it sort of cute ☺️.

Ok, so we are having our friend party next Friday. We invited C's friends who are our neighbors, our friends kids, ect. No classmates. Last year we just ate and drank while the kids ran wild in the house, it seemed to go well. Do I need games this year? Or some sort of activity? It's at 5:30 on a Friday, fishing theme. We'll have appetizers, pizza and cupcakes. Favors are Go Fish game with a box of swedish fish.. kids coming range from 1-8. Hit or miss on if we'll be able to be outside, since Michigan.

I doubt it, but you could always buy a cheapie tablecloth, paint sets/crayons and put some paper (you could cut them out to look like fish if you want to stay on theme) so there’s a little more of a chill out spot to sit and paint/color. ETA: Even more on theme: you could hang some fishing line on the wall so after they paint or color fish, they could hang it up there to dry and serve as an extra set of “decorations”

So, I invited the girls over for Evelyn's birthday. The cookie decorating party we did last week was a blast and kept the kids occupied all night. I would like to do something fun with the girls. I was thinking we could make necklaces...like maybe Disney princess charms and beads. Or something fun for the Thanksgiving table that's not a typical pre-school craft (so, no construction paper). Many years ago, I did a DIY snow globe table at my oldest son's school, which was a lot of fun but kinfa feels too Christmasy.
Any ideas?

dapostrophe, tissue paper flowers? Sharpie markers mugs or plates. Although I think they have to dry for a couple of hours before you put them in the oven/microwave. Decorate your own cupcake is messy, but fun! Again, if you don’t mind waiting it out route, you could tie-dye socks or T-shirts.

wineallthetime, I was at a party last weekend that was at their home and they mostly just ran around and played but the mom set up a craft table in the playroom with play doh and a bunch print outs of coloring sheets of various things (I only saw the Star Wars themed ones since that's what my kid picked, but I'm sure there were princesses and other options). It was a big hit, even with my non-artsy kid.

I still don't know what we're going to do or when it's going to be. Is it too late to send invites out for 11/17? I had planned on Dec 1 but then my MIL scheduled some fancy Santa photos for that afternoon.

I've been to cupcake decorating parties with E. They put a plastic tablecloth down and little pallets of different sprinkles. The parents do the frosting or help. For games I'm doing an inflatable punching bag, the water table with cheese puff balls to smash, and a yard to run in. Our original theme was hulk smash. wineallthetime is there something fishy but not messy you can do with a water table?

I just realized there must be a party for someone in the other prek class. I only got 1 no RSVP from the 5 I invited from that class and no response from the others. I really don't understand why people can't just say no. It doesn't actually hurt people to RSVP no. It is weirder to not RSVP at all. End rant

Sunday is the RSVP date. Hoping to at least get reply’s but expecting surprises.
