I believe pertussis is on the rise. It makes my heart hurt. 😞 Ugh. There was a chicken pox outbreak in a nearby town recently. All unvaccinated kids (so all infants 12 months and younger plus older kids that opted out of the vaccine) had to stay home for 3 weeks. Finding alternative childcare for 3 weeks would have been a nightmare and I would have been so pissed. If I had to keep my baby home for three weeks because of a collective group of idiots, I don't know how I would react. Rage. Much much rage.

I'm glad there are no major changes, Nota🎃, but I'm sorry for the stress of all this.

And they said the infants wouldn't have to pay for those 3 weeks (duh) but those parents either have to take time off from work (3 weeks!) or pay someone else to watch the kids so. My gosh.

My brother and his wife don’t vaccinate their kids (or dogs for that matter) and they have really let it limit their life. The 3 yr old has never been to any kid of pre school or mom’s day out, they won’t go to a lot of playgrounds or other public kids places. They basically stay home day in and day out. To each their own, but that is just not the life I want to live. There is a shortage of infant childcare so I have no idea how you would find alternative care for 3 weeks starting immediately. Like because they are afraid of them getting sick? I can't imagine being home all day every day.

That kid is going to have zero immune system and when he hits K (or 18 if they homeschool) he is going to be so sick that first winter. It’s really a disservice to the kid.

They came to visit us for the first time and I wanted to take the kids to the playground and it was a Big Deal. That’s....not healthy behavior. Are they planning to homeschool? Live in a bunker? My gosh.

Most of the unvaccinated kids around here seem to go about their lives just fine - their parents are all, just give them elderberry syrup/essential oils/whatevers and trust their bodies to do their jobs! I'm fine with certain herbal remedies but not in lieu of vaccines and real medicine when you need them.

@karenwalker that's so sad. She's going to get sick all the time once she starts going out. Plus passing things along since she hasn't been vaccinated.

Our school fall holiday plans fell through very last minute and now I'm scrambling trying to figure out what to do. October is normally awful weather for Hamburg so I'm hesitant to stay. It's also illegal to take kids out of school outside of school breaks here so now I'm trying to decide if it is worth it to soak up some sun somewhere before we have 7 months of cold, gray, and rain even if it means paying thousands more in airfare then we would normally pay if it wasn't a week ahead of time. Most flights are completely booked as well. H is so chill and relaxed about it all and I am...not.
This week the toddler is home with me since his daycare provider is on vacation for the next 3 weeks. Day 1 went great but tomorrow my goal is to get a bit more done around the house. Next week at least his two older brothers will be here to keep us company.

My grandma could cartwheel into the splits well into her 60s; I tried it just before I got pregnant last year and it did not go well. I wanna be your grandma Same.

I’m signing DS up for golf classes this week. I have no expectations of him turning into Tiger Woods, but he is so excited and since H and I like to golf, I’m hoping we can make it a family thing. that sounds like fun! MH is hoping to sign DS up next summer since they don't do winter classes.

Oh hey Dr. Cox . I'm in a flu shot debate on FB today. People are dumb all over. I can't get into it and hope to make any kind of difference there because I would be so hugely outnumbered. I live in an area with a very high rate of unvaccinated children. Argh. Yes, I don't like to think about how many of the kids will be unvaccinated when A starts K next year

DH’s new iPhone should be here today. 😂😂 WOW that was quick, he went from no new phone to when will it get here. Apple needs to put me on payroll in the marketing department.
I’m tired today and my stomach feels weird. Great way to start the week.

My work team decided that a snack on Mondays would be nice, and people can sign up to bring in something. My cubemate brought in a midwestern dish with broccoli, cauliflower, sugar, and mayo to highlight a few ingredients. I didn’t try it.

Over the past two days when my oldest has put the dogs in their crate the 2yo dog has growled and snapped at her as they walked towards the crate. She has growled at me before but never bit at me. She didn’t break the skin on DD1s hand but the behavior has me concerned. Paying for training is not in the cards for us. Clearly one option is to not have the kids put them away. DD1 wasn’t touching her so it doesn’t seem to be pain related.
This dog is the bane of my existence so I’m trying to decide if I’m overreacting.

Is there bacon and sunflower seeds too?
Yes, I'm Midwestern and this is at most family picnics.

I'm watching Shameless and hoping the baby will stay asleep if I put him down. Bets on that? I'm betting I'll have 30 minutes or less. 😬
