Tell me if this rug looks too small for my space. It’s one we had in our old house and I adore it, but I think I need something bigger. It’s a 9x6 and ideally, I’d need an 8x11 for my space. I don’t *really* want to spend the money on a new one if I don’t have to and I can only find this same rug in a 9x12, which won’t work due to furniture placement. Tell me what you think. Don’t mind the books in the corners-I’m trying to flatten them from it being rolled.

It’s an odd size. I think that room and the L shaped sofa make it really tough.
You either need a giant rug that basically goes all the way under the sofa or a smaller rug that goes just under the coffee table, and not under the sofa. I think a fluffy sheep skin rug under the coffee table would be 🔥 in that room/decor.

In my opinion, it does seem small for the space. The entire room is gorgeous though!

Or no rug at all would probably look the best. But I assume you want a rug for function?

And while I’m going all in with my opinions, that style/pattern and color of rug is a mismatch with all the other furniture in the room.
Everything else is a gorgeous MCM and that rug is very shabby chic. It’s a pretty rug but I don’t love it in that room.

I’m an area rug expert, long story.
I think that not only does it look fine, it looks good. You have anchored it in the right spot for its size. The rug is clearly highlighting the sitting area, so you don’t need a bigger rug if you don’t want one.
It’s the same with bedrooms, you can have a 6x9 anchored half under the bed or a larger one with the whol bed on top. You are dealing with a smaller rug, so as I said, you e anchored perfectly.
I am rambling
It’s friday. I’m not free and clear at the moment.

The white woodworking/trim, the pink and white blanket, your pillows. It all ties together.

It’s not the color that I think is a mismatch.

I do agree that the size of the rug fits the rules of being anchored under 2/4 of the furniture legs.

I was worried about the pattern, too, but the throw pillows and blankets are soft enough to allow it, I think. I’m probably biased because I just really love the rug.

I think it looks a little small for the space, but not horribly so at all. If you love it, keep it.

You’re making me feel better about it, though.

I actually think it looks right as well. Perhaps what I like so much is the surprise of the unexpected. It doesn’t necessarily “match” the rest of the room but it’s a nice contrast.

I am no expert but I read Design Dilemmas on House when I’m bored and the “unexpected” is something a lot of designers seem to suggest. Another example is very traditional artwork in a modern room (or vice versa) so this seems to fit in my mind.

If you love it, leave it.
The rug is NMS but the rest of the room is very much my style, so I think I’m looking at it with crooked eyes bc I would pick a much different style of rug for the space.
But, as someone who decorated a living room with things that she loves, I strongly believe you should also just have things you love whether they make the most sense to anyone else or not.

Your new floors look great, and I love the bonus BT pics.
Personally, I think the rug size is a little off for the space, but not so much so that you need to buy something new. I could live with it.

It is too small for your furniture/space. If it went fully under the chaise part of your couch (to the outside leg as it does with the other side) you could make it work but it looks uneven the way it's situated.

Personally, I would keep looking...b/c it would bother me over time, and eventually I would end up replacing with something more appropriately-sized, thus throwing even more money at it. eta: i re-read that you already own this. I would look for something new and try to repurpose this one elsewhere. I love your floors and the room itself.

I don’t dislike the rug itself but agree with PPs that it’s too narrow for the sectional.
But it’s not a 911 situation. Take your time finding something you really love.

Your new floors look great, and I love the bonus BT pics. This especially! Also, I tend to agree with brux I think it needs to be a little bit bigger. I would personally prefer a little bit more of a bolder pattern or color in the rug but my opinion about style or color means nothing if you love it!

And nothing says you can’t upgrade to a larger rug when you find something you like. But as a placeholder (or a forever rug!) I thinks it’s great.

I want your house and floors and dog!
Anyway, I think the rug style itself works well with your decor. The faded pattern is what makes it work for me. If it wasn't faded I would feel differently. It would look too formal or something for the rest of the room's feel.
For the size I think it needs to be wider but I don't think it needs immediate replacement.
Have you tried moving the rug slightly to the left so it's centered? I'm having a hard time putting this into words, but if the rug isn't wider than the couch I prefer it to at least be as wide as the cushion area of the couch, and centering it between the arms might do that for you.

Hmm I have an L shaped couch and a rug about that size. I have it pulled out so that it’s only barely under the front 2 feet on the chaise. It creates an equal area of laminate showing between the rug and my couch (the regular part of it, minus the chaise) and the rug and the entertainment center on the other side of it. I think it looks good that way and I think it would look good in your room too but now I’m reading this thread and thinking I’m wrong?
Eta: I looked at your pictures again and there’s not much flooring showing between your rug and TV stand so idk if it would work the same for you. If it were me, I would still try it to see how it looks because I like I really balanced look.

Thank you! I had it centered initially and it looked way too small. Having it offset looks better, IMO, but I’ve spent the morning rug shopping, so. You guys have confirmed what I already knew.
