Morning Ladies! I am recovering from a long weekend with lots of go go go. We went to two Labor Day parties and my kids are off from school today too, which I think is needed. My neighbors threw a kid rager with ice cream trucks bounce houses, firetrucks etc and apparently a game of vodka pong went late into the night with the adults. The host sent out a note the next day that thier fish was almost murdered by a toddler who dumped food into the tank and there was slime on their carpet, so could we please talk to our kids about respecting animals and other people's property. I was like...hmm, not sure a good talking to would have prevented accidents in a room full of unsupervised, sugared-up up toddlers who you passed out slime and candy to while all their parents got drunk upstairs, but what do I know. I mean, I understand him saying something about the mess, but the lecture was a bit much.
The second party skewed way older. It was attended by a bunch of people who work at the local physics lab and involved lots of sipping wine, listening to international music and travel talk. One party was much more my speed and one was much more my H's. I'm sure you can guess which was which (and who's husband missed out on vodka pong) 😉

I'm back to work. One of our machines is down yet again. I was hoping they would call before I had to be in so I could stay home, but alas, I'm here. I'm still holding out hope that they send me home early.

Legit LOL dapostrophe. I can't turn my back on my own kids with washable crayons without expecting chaos to ensue. What the hell to thinking toddlers and young kids won't trash the place. Reminds me of that Super Bowl party we went to when Pete and I wound up supervising all the kids while everyone drank their face off. Don't they know that things will practically turn into a Lord of the Flies situation in under ten minutes if their heathens are unsupervised? |

Good morning. guster so sad to start a school year that way. mwhip I’m sorry she was scared. Hopefully, when you pick her up she will have had a good day. chrisy01 hope your day back continues to go ok. My big kids start tomorrow and T on Thursday. My oldest is off to middle school, first time on the bus and heading across town to a very large school. He’s scared. It’s taking all I have not to say “I’m scared too, let’s just homeschool you.” DD can’t wait to go back and is currently painting shells for her teachers. Her grade is very small and has very few girls. I hope she’s not disappointed to learn there are only 3 girls in her class, I’m playing dumb and saying I don’t know who is in the class. Poor kid is surrounded by boys at home. I guess at least she has gymnastics with all girls. First official hockey practice tonight. DH had a crazy idea that 9 hours a week of practice + games wasn’t enough and DS should play in 2 leagues. Thankfully, he has not found another league accepting players his age right now. |

mamabear (and flamingo) stories like that make my heart drop. Babies around water is peak anxiety for me, because like you mentioned, it can happen so fast. ****TW**** guster I'm sorry your H had a tradgedy to face on his first day back. We also had a student death at the high school this weekend. It was an aquaintence of my son's and it was suicide. It weighed heavily on my mind while everyone went about enjoying the holiday weekend. Cannot imagine. ETA: fixed a few tags

Drowning freaks me out so bad. I’m getting ready to start my little two in rescue swimming. I’m so paranoid especially now that we are in Florida again. We did it with Giovanna and it was the best thing ever if anyone is considering it! It is hard down here though- we are making new friends and going to their houses- some of which have older kids so their pools will be open and I have to ask this person I just met if I can go lock all their doors with access to the pool. Of course no one minds but it’s hard to relax with an open pool regardless. I'm thinking about doing the ISR swim with C now that I'll have B back in school. We traveled so much this summer that we were never here for 6 solid weeks, or anything close, but I think this fall I might be able to manage it. We said this house would be our 'guinea pig' WRT having a pool, and besides the maintenance issues we've had, I just don't enjoy it enough to offset the worry and inability to relax. Not just with my own kids, but friends' children, etc. We won't do it again. As long as I have a neighborhood pool I'm good! |

I’m curious how the whole situation will play out once my kids are older and have friends who come over without their parents. I don’t know what my feelings are yet on having kids swim without their own parents supervising. Typical drop off play dates here start around seven, and there are definitely kids who are not strong swimmers by that age. We’ve been to many parties where the host family has hired a lifeguard for the kids. If we ever decide to have any big summer blowouts, I will be sure to go that route. |

I haven't had a pool since having kids but just to many horror stories going around. A friend of A's lost his nephew that way. Everyone was inside for a big family party and the kid snuck out the back door, climbed the locked ladder and got in. They tore down the pool after. My neighbor has a pool and it has a fence and gate. The boys can't reach the latch for the gate but it's not actually locked. I will probably ask them to add one when the boys get taller. |

DNW to even think about drowning. We didn't even have kids yet but we had zero interest in a house with a pool because I'm so paranoid. guster - I'm so sorry to hear about that, what a terrible way to end the summer. chrisy01 - Colin has that same lunchbox! His is a bit beat up but he refused a new one because he loves that one so much. |

How about an unexpected positive story??
The gate at the top of our stairs has been literally on its way to falling out of the wall and in fact, DID fall out of the wall at 5am this morning when I was trying to sneak out to run. Whoops. That part stunk, BUT DH had it fixed by 9am. I'm kind of in shock.

Middle school frightens me, I am in NO rush to get there. Unfortunately, our middle schools have a bad rap and about half of DS’s elementary friends will go to private schools because of it. I work in the other middle school in town so I’m aware most of the talk is BS and I know he will be fine but often the kids heading to other schools talk about how the public school is a “bad school for bad kids” and my kid had to listen to that. |

Morning! We went and bought new living room furniture last night after work. We were up till midnight getting the old stuff off, bringing in the new, then assembling end tables and new lamps as well. Then S woke at 5:15. Ugh. I’m tired. I’m working on my day off today because of meetings. But it’s ok, because tomorrow MH and I are taking a day trip to the lake. S will be in school and a babysitter will pick her up. I will get to truly relax and enjoy the lake without worrying about her the whole time!

Also...apparently we are keeping one of the puppies. Lol. My H said we were not, but he has grown super attached to one in particular and he loves training dogs. So...I guess we have a new dog.

N bawled this morning at drop off but I’m not surprised since I can probably count the amount of times he didn’t cry last year.
Poor kid, most of his friends from last year were SK’s and they’ve all moved up to grade 1 and his best JK buddy moved away this year so I know he’s going to have a hard time adjusting. I had hoped having the same teachers, same classmates etc would help him, hopefully after a few days he will get used to it.

I found out why a lot of the staff calls M Emma sometimes. There's another red head named Emma in M's class this year. I've never seen her since I drop off early & pick up late. I always thought it was odd that they'd confuse M with her BF named Emma.

Add me to the list of people who are terrified by having a pool in my yard. I hate going to parties where there are pools b/c I can't relax with B there. |
