Working from Starbucks today. I have a project for the school that has been sitting on my desk that I need to move off. Plus, some invoicing and general maintenance. Every so often I toy with the idea of getting back to work, but then I remember how tight my schedule is already. I really miss it though. I bought a pattern for some cute animal stuffies last night that I thought I could do for fun at night while I watch tv, maybe for Christmas gifts or something. But then of course my mind goes to how I could get a small booth at the craft fair and what the logo and marketing materials would look like and how could I purchase materials in bulk to be profitable and before you know it, my potential little hobby was turning into a business. What can I say, I'm an entrepreneur at heart

mwhip FWIW. I don't know how much a different daycare would have made a difference. Dude had been at the same school since he wasn't twelve weeks old and he was still really nervous yesterday. There are probably 40 kids at his former center. It seemed like telling him that everyone is worried about their first day, even teachers, made him a little more comfortable. I'm sure she's going to do great. I've cooled down on making it a big deal, even though in my head I'm so excited and proud that he's going to kinder already This is just my biggest problem with Josie in general. I’m full of the questions and anticipation, and she doesn’t process the world that way and I know it stresses her out, so I’ve tried to cool it, but it’s very difficult to break that trait in my personality

Arrived at the haircut place 10 min after they opened, there’s already an hour and 15 min. wait 😳 Heading to Target to kill some time. good Lord! Back to school cuts for everyone? Guess so! When it was our turn she said there were probably 20 ppl waiting when the doors opened. They normally have 2 stylists working on weekdays and have 4 today. Thankfully they were ready for us about 20 seconds after we got back from Target.

For those with kids nervous about school, could you send with a little note or keepsake from home? I have seen people do a safety pin, where you wear one and they wear one and touch it everytime you miss home or feel a little sad. Then when they get home you share how many times you touched your pin and talk through the difficult moments.
I used to draw a note with my son's favorite cat character and a little note of encouragement to keep in his pocket.

Ooof, lfig, that is a toughie. I tend to agree with pps that your current job sounds ideal. Personally, I don’t think I would like moving from being a supervisor to something else. Because this would be a new job, how much freedom does it allkw for situations like PTO and flexibility with the hours in case you or yh have to drive stl for S?

Thanks guys. I'm not normally one to bitch about pregnancy. I don't particularly like it, but I generally don't mind. This exhaustion just feels over the top. Especially since Layla is pretty easy these days. I'm going to talk to my MW about iron pills, I'm lucky if I can manage to eat once a day, so I don't want to depend on managing it with diet. You will need to eat 30 minutes to and hour after taking the iron pill. At least I had to.

tgrimes that stinks. Our pediatrician dropped LO when I made him give us a referral to the allergist. We were assigned a new one at the same office. It ended up being better. This one is younger and not planning on leaving the office for at least 8 years. He also agreed with me on finding out lo’s exact allergies. So maybe a change might be good.

Congrats to YH tallb !! sands42 That is really weird about your neighbor. Is it possible she had her kid get his toys together or something? I mean, I still would have checked before selling them, of course, but maybe you could let her know. I would be mortified if that happened and I didn't know for some reason. Oh it’s not my neighbor- it’s someone random from FB who we found out works with my neighbor when I was picking the stuff up. She was the one cleaning out her sons room so she’s the one who put it all together! I’m just going to let it go but it’s irritating. I was expecting a bunch of little figures and stuff.

My parents just left. C won’t be home until after bedtime. I’m terrified for bedtime. I tried doing bedtime last night without help and failed. Both E and LO start bedtime routine at the same time. I didn’t think about that when I was getting E in a routine.

flamingo your post is reminding me how much I hate character lunch boxes. Don't get me wrong, my kids have them too, but every time I pack a lunch I side eye them. I really had to reign myself in and not order the matching lunch boxes to the PB backpacks I got them. I *suppose* they should be able to pick something they like even if I don't, and at least I don't have to look at them in the backpack. But seriously, why are they so ugly??? Like why can't they make them in more subdued colors and graphics like the princess shoes that tgrimes posted the other day? I don't get it. Girl, preach. 🙌🏻 I’m not a character gear fan in general, either. B has never had a character lunchbox (#meanmom) Like you, I relented and let C pick the lunchbox; I think I’m getting soft in my old age 😂 We actually found one at Target with Chase today, and it’s aqua. Does not match her PBK backpack at all, and it’s going to silently taunt me all year.

When B was super little, I used to hold B while reading to S and putting him to sleep, then feed B and put him down. Now that he's a bit older, I have switched it up and S can either do stories with B and I or watch the ipad while I put B down then he goes down. I remember the first few times of trying to put them both to sleep by myself felt really overwhelming, but it sort of just works itself into a schedule. It gets tons easier, I promise.

I’m going to see if she will be okay with the baby carrier tonight while I give LO a bath.

Sorry, I’m being a PW today. But I forgot to tell you guys about a possible job opportunity I have. I’ve been weighing the pros and cons...but I think I’m going to apply. Same agency, different division. The supervisor of the other job approached me about it. I didn’t even know it was going to be a vacant position soon. Current job: GS6 subject to furlough (I get laid off for 2-3 months every winter) - supervisory role. I supervise 7-10 seasonal employees. I have a lot of freedoms with this job. I make my own schedule, office is 7 miles from my house, boss is an hour away. Quite a bit of field work, so I’m not tied to a desk. I get to be out and about in the park and helping visitors. MH and I have the same days off. I run my program, with a little oversight from my chief, but it’s my program (fee management). Job possibly: GS7 permanent full time...year round! Not a supervisory position, a support role. It’s in the resource division, with the fire management group. Doing a lot to travel prep and timekeeping for firefighters, as well as managing the budget. Stuck to the office more, which is an hour away from home. But could work remote from my current office a few days a week. Will have different days off from MH. A lot of opportunity for overtime (🤑). My thoughts: I love the idea of not getting laid off every year! Plus it’s more money. MH and I having opposite days off is one area I’m torn on. Although I gripe a lot (and currently) about too much togetherness...I will be missing out on some fun in the summer when he’s taking the boat to the lake or going to the river. The job, although is not a supervisory position sounds a lot more demanding as far as tasks. They aren’t going to advertise it for a bit yet. So I still have time to mull it over...but I’m thinking of applying and hopeful for something new! And I feel like I’d have a decent shot since the guy who will be hiring approached me about it. lfig couple questions is it a GS7/9/11 or just a GS7. Is there more room from growth in that office or your current office? The difference in pay between the GS6 and GS7 isn't all that much, BUT the extra 2-3 months of pay plus overtime would make it nice. I never turn down opportunity to advance, but I would definitely second guess myself a lot considering how flexible your current job is, and how flexible you need your job to be with all of S's appointments and such. Would you have the opportunity to work from home vs remote from your current office with the new job?
Not having the same days off would be difficult, but you can always plan leave around fun activities during the summer too. Would any of this affect your daycare? Also, since you would have different days off, would your husband be able to pick up some of the Dr. Appointments and stuff for S too?

We do not do bathtime every night and that certainly helps with dual bedtime, esp when B was little and MH was OOT. But I know that's not for everyone. But by doing that, I could just hold B, nurse him, etc while helping brush teeth, jammies, story, etc.

Losing the supervisory role wouldn’t break my heart. The paperwork and leg work that goes along with it to do the hiring every year, then the training. I kinda feel like there are other aspects of my job that don’t get done to my satisfaction because I’m too busy managing people, that my workload takes a hit. I don’t think that taking leave for things will be a big deal either. The park I work for is very family oriented and very much “family first”.

Obviously hands are always washed and I'll usually just wash their face and call it a night. I definitely slacked on it when B was little and never recovered. Oops.

tallb Congrats to your H! lfig I can see why you have mixed feelings! I would definitely go ahead and interview for it; at the end of the day, if you decide it's not for you, no harm done, but at least you can hear them out and make a completely informed decision. If you decide to stay in your current job, you have the perfect 'excuses' (same days off as your H, office close to home, etc) I liked mskatiep's thoughts on the subject in terms of things to think about. Good luck with whatever you decide!

It’s just a 7...and my current job is just a 6. My agency is trying to do away with career ladder positions...which is dumb. But it is what it is. I have chose not to apply for other positions that were 7’s that came open because the long drive and the difference in pay isn’t that much. So I had to weigh if it was worth it. And always decided it wasn’t. But with this one being able to work remote (but most likely not from home ... except on occasion/special circumstances) and not having to make that drive 5 days a week, and then throw in the overtime possibilities...I think I could be worth it. MH could definitely pick up some of the shuttling of S to appts because his days off will remain middle of the week, mine would be weekends. And we discussed just what you mentioned about planning trips and me taking leave for that in the summer. ETA: the new opportunity would be a better stepping stone for future advancement. My current job is kind of a dead end at my park unless we moved to a different park. Which I don’t see happening.

lfig, I personally would apply. Especially since the opportunity for growth is higher and the remote work is definitely a plus. Luckily you don't "need" a new job, so you can interview and go through the process with confidence. They approached you!
