Ahh!!! We fly out Saturday for our cruise! SO MUCH to get done at our house beforehand, though. The friends we're cruising with are staying with us a few days afterward and I am not prepared.

I have a car seat question for other STM and TTMs. My DD will be 2 when this LO arrives. We have an infant seat for the new baby, but will we need another convertible seat for her down the line? Or can I get a FF-only seat for DD and put this LO in DD's convertible seat? I tried to research how long to keep kids rear-facing, and I'm seeing as long as possible, including 4-5 year olds. That seems crazy, but maybe it's not?

@amc, my DD was (and is) quite large for her age, so we had her out of the infant seat by 9 months. I was thinking if we could keep this baby in the infant seat until 1, DD would be 3 and we could avoid buying another convertible seat. But then I don't want a relatively small amount of money to be the reason my kid is less safe, you know?

That seems crazy, but maybe it's not? That depends completely on how long you want to RF, as well as your laws (our state is until 30lbs). My first two are 3 years apart. We switched ds1 to FF at 3.5 when we moved ds2 into his old convertible - ds1 got a forward facing harness to booster seat. We are debating now if we will need to buy more convertibles to keep ds2 RF, due to age/seat expirations. We like ERF, but I don't think I could go all the way to age 4 or 5. I felt comfortable safety-wise moving him to ff at 3.5. This probably wasn't too helpful, but after age 2 it's a personal decision.

redhead610, in our state the law is RF until age 2. I want to keep her RF longer than that. She's large for her age, but I can't imagine she would outgrow the RF limits on either carseat we have anytime soon. I might just suck it up and buy another convertible seat when the time comes.

My 5 year old is just about 40 lbs, which is when heoutgrew the rf seat limit of his old seat (if he was still rf). For ds2 we had to buy a new seat a year ago due to a vomit ruining seat episode and we bought the Graco extend2fit (rf to 50 lbs). So he could be rf for a long, long time if we really wanted.

Made my first purchase for this baby! The haakaa manual breast pump is on sale on Amazon if anyone is interested. I’ve been eyeing it for the early months when I leak so much from the side baby isn’t eating from.

You have gotten several good answers. RF length depends on your personal decision but ideally longer is better as long as child is within the seat's weight/height limits for RF. My DD just turned 3 and is still RF. She is petite though and not even 30lbs and maybe 35 inches. I plan to keep her turned for a while. Since both my kids were preemies we used the infant seat for a long time. DS is almost 6 and is in a 5point booster that transitions to a booster with just the seat belt. I get wanting to save money if possible cause car seats are expensive!

I agree with the above on the carseats. I just changed DS2 to FF because he hit the rear facing weight limit few months after he turned 3. DS1 at almost age 6 is still in a 5 point harness convertible seat; we are tall so I bought a seat with a high height limit. It eventually turns into a booster too, so that's an option as well - a convertible that becomes the booster.

Super helpful car seat info, tucking this all away!
Question about yeast infections: a week or so ago, OB said my swab came back positive (although I had no symptoms) for a particularly resistant strain and put me on seven days of terconazole suppositories. Guess we're just assuming it worked bc she's not following up until next appt? I am wondering if anyone else gets them while pregnant (I haven't had one for probably a decade), are they hard to get rid of, is there anything bad for baby?
My other thought was, I have continual spotting and small clots, I was thinking blood has sugar in it and is a different pH, does anyone get yeast infections with their period?
OB said the infection itself can irritate the vaginal walls and lead to some of the spotting, so I'd like to do what I can to stop/prevent them! Thank you!

I had oversupply/leaking issues until I went back to work. I can't believe I'm buying baby stuff!

notagoddess We switched DD to FF a couple months before her 3rd birthday. She’s in the 90th percentile for height and seemed like she was getting annoyed on car rides. Flipping her really helped, she loves being able to see everything in front of her (she’s in the middle so has a nice view). We would have left her longer if she didn’t seem bothered but the laws here are RF until 2yo and I felt it was a decent time to switch her. I do think as long as you can keep them RF is best but it’s totally up to you after 2yo. I’d probably just wait and see how things are going around the time you’d want to switch LO into a convertible.

k I’ve been eyeing that one! ASM- my mom is visiting this week and helping with childcare for DD before she starts pre-k Friday. We have an “interesting” relationship and the inability to drink wine feels like cruel and unusual punishment... I’m grateful for her help, but it’s just A LOT!

I just got to work from my appointment. Got to hear baby boy’s heartbeat! I go back in 3 weeks for my 20 week ultrasound. She wanted to refer me to a high risk doctor to do the ultrasound because of my age. I’m 34. My insurance won’t cover any ultrasound and they wouldn’t cover the genetic testing so I opted to stick with a regular doctor for a regular ultrasound. I hope that’s the right call. I just can’t see spending 500 or even more dollars for a special ultrasound. We really need to save! Being AMA stinks. I feel ancient!

strawberrykiki, that seems like overkill TBH. I'd probably make the same decision. That sucks about your insurance, though. No ultrasound coverage?

notagoddess no ultrasound coverage 😞 this will be our third one and they are like 300 a pop! I’m sure a specialized one with a high risk doctor would be even more! My insurance 100 percent covers prenatal care minus ultrasounds like wtf that’s one of the most important parts of prenatal care!

strawberrykiki, that really sucks! I'm 33 now and haven't heard anything about my age. I doubt a year difference suddenly puts you in a whole other category in terms of risk.

strawberrykiki yay for hearing the heartbeat!! Sucks about ultrasound coverage. I would have chosen as you did. I'll be almost 34 when we have the baby, and it's so weird that insurance would have covered nipt if I was like 14 months older. Nothing magically bad happens on our 35th birthdays!

@amc my boys are 24 months apart and someone asks me once a week if they’re twins. They are pretty similar in terms of size, but a 20 month old is so different than a 3.5 year old. It still makes me laugh. And sorry for the colds. I’m still snotty from the germs DS1 brought home from school 🙄. TashaLa oh wine. I miss it so much. 😬

My boys are 3 years and 1 month apart, and last month someone asked me if they were twins. They in mo way shape or form look like they could be twins at age 5 & 2!
Today I had to go for another vein ultrasound to check for blood clots in my legs. The scan was clear, but my varicose veins hurt so much every day! I hope once it's not quite so hot they get a little better, but I'm nervous for how bad they are going to get over the next 18 weeks.

redhead610 glad there is no clot. Are they in your lower legs? I've been wearing compression socks at work the past few days because of some leg swelling and aching. They are helping already even though it seems early to need them! On a related note any recommend a good maternity support belt? I borrowed on from a friend last time and can't remember what it was. It was decent. I seem to be carrying really low this time. I feel like I'm going to need one sooner this time since I'm a TTM and work long hours at the hospital on my feet.

I had an OB appointment this morning. It took a minute to find her in there, but eventually we got a HB of 145 and all looks good!
I've been having some hip pain that I brought up to the OB. He said he can write a note to get me a better parking spot on campus. I might take him up on it. Right now I have to walk 8 minutes fast from my car to the office. It won't be possible if the hip pain gets worse.
