We're starting our reno in a little over 10 weeks, but need to make some decisions now. I know there are some very stylish ladies around here. Backstory? We're basically re-doing our house top to bottom, plus adding an extra story to the house. New floors, new bathroom, new kitchen, new fireplace, new stairs, the works. One of our biggest dilemmas is the floor in the kitchen. We basically going to have one big room which contains our living area, dining area, play area and kitchen. We've settled on a pine floor, but we're thinking that we might do a different floor in the kitchen area. The kitchen will be light blue. So these are the options: Wood floor - dark soapstone counter Portuguese tiles - wooden counter Granitic floor - wooden counter (couldn't find pick pic of floor combined with the kitchen)

I like the 2nd too. It's really cool and seems to fit with what I know of your style!

Personally, if it's truly all one big open space with no walls I would do all the floor the same material. Ours is all one open space (it's L shaped) but I really wanted carpet in the living room otherwise I would have just done the same floors throughout.

Also, I've never heard of granite floors! There are granite floors at the hospital I work at, they just look like huge tiles. ETA it's not all the floors but a decorative boarder in the lobby.

I think if it's one big room, I would keep the flooring the same break it up with some kind of area rug situation.

I also like the Portuguese tiles, would you consider doing that in an entryway or even in a bathroom?

Also, I've never heard of granite floors! You see them a lot in old houses here. It was used in all our houses, same with stained glass windows, but the previous owners tore out every single original detail. We're trying to restore some of them.

I like 1 the best and would save the tile for s bathroom. Or maybe something similar for a backsplash to spice it up.

I would pick the first! The Portuguese tiles are beautiful but I think they would look great in a smaller bath or entry.
We have one open space for kitchen, dining and living room and did wide plank wood in the dining/living and tiles in the kitchen. I don't mind the change in flooring and the tiles are just way easier to clean up and maintain in the kitchen/entry

I vote 2. I'm okay with floors in 1, but not the dark counter. But if you will be doing wood floors in the kitchen, I would stick with the same flooring throughout.

I'm with everyone else. All of the options are beautiful but I'd keep the floors the same throughout.

If it's an open layout I'd do the same floors throughout, which I guess is the wood? I think it will look gorgeous

I say wood throughout and I don't know that the tile is too busy as backsplash.

If you think the tile would be too busy as a backsplash, wouldn't it be too busy on the floors as well? I like the colors you posted and I think I would keep the same flooring. Which option are you leaning toward the most?
