Warning, TLDR ahead!
So it wasn’t even my Harmony results that were in. It was other blood work checking my white blood cells because they had previously shown sign of infection and now they’re even higher, so I was just giving a urine sample. He’s like nah it will still be at least a week or two for the NIPT results, sorry! Oy vey but also lol, oh well.
Now my big rant: So I’m learning the vast majority of women here in BC get midwife care. OB’s are really rare and mostly only in hospitals. To get one to follow your pregnancy is really challenging and I’ll have to go to one of two neighbouring cities to get care. PITA but fine, but the first clinic has rejected me because I’m not a previous patient/am outside of their boundaries. Now we’re trying to find one who will provide the level of care I need (monitoring my cervix bi-weekly, really not huge stuff) and it’s like... so stressful. And I’m trying to explain to my GP that driving an hour each way for appointments is really difficult for me (not to mention OBs are always running behind so god knows how long the total appointment will take but realistically at least half a day) and it’s just hard on us because I’m a SAHM and childcare is literally my job (not that a working parent would find it any easier to take off that much work). We’re lucky that MH’s current WFH schedule of 12-8 makes morning appointments easy, but his company just sent out a notice that soon everyone will be 8-4, so that will be gone. It’s just ugh! I live in a city of 235k people, access to care should not be this hard?

Tlex ugh! That's very frustrating. Is it a personal preference or medical necessity that you can't use a midwife? Honestly asking, I don't really know anything about midwives and use an OB. Not that it matters, it's still annoying and does seem odd that in a city that big there aren't more options!

As soon as you’re deemed high risk (or even moderate risk) a midwife can’t keep you as a patient, they have to refer you on to an OB. I’ve had two high risk pregnancies/one preterm birth so I’m just automatically deemed high risk no matter what. Hopefully this will be an absolutely boring pregnancy!

Even more frustrating that way.

Ugh Tlex that is frustrating. You would think more options would be available in an area that size. I just wanted to share that if you are interested in a midwife at all it has been amazing with my last 2. From my understanding all tests and ultrasounds etc that a doctor can order they can. If any complication arises they consult the doctors and obs. It may be worth calling and asking them if it is possible with your specific situation. As a sahm the midwives office was great as it is usually kid friendly and them coming to your home the first couple weeks after birth is lovely. Also please ignore me if you have no interest.

How frustrating Tlex I hope you are able to find an OB soon. If you were able to see a midwife, would they be able to refer you to an OB more quickly than your GP?

Weeks pregnant: 8w4d
Baby is the size of a: kidney bean
FTM/STM/TTM/etc: STM, 4th pregnancy
Team: Finding out
Appointments: Today, OMG. I think it's just a "confirmation of pregnancy" so I'm not sure what they'll do. I'm starting with a new office.
Symptoms: mild nausea all day. Tired.
Milestones: if I get an ultrasound today I'll be past one.
Rants/Raves/Vents: Just nervous about today.

Fx you get an u/s and it's not a silly paperwork appt Eames! They didn't schedule me for one of those this time and I didn't remind them because I think they're a waste of time, lol.

Weeks pregnant: 8 weeks even
Baby is the size of a: raspberry
FTM/STM/TTM/etc: 4th pregnanc, 2nd time mom
Team: find out
Appointments: 2 weeks from today at 10 weeks I will graduate from the RE if all looks good.
Symptoms: nausea, tired, food aversions
Milestones: I just had a great ultrasound. I couldn't get a heartbeat number, just because he said he couldn't do that on his machine and didn't want me to have a number to obsess over anyway. But he said "look at this screen, I'm going to use the colorful doppler" and there was a bright red beating blob in the middle of a perfect looking tiny baby shaped mass. He was like, "What part of 'perfect' would you like to discuss first?"
He also said that 95% of women with an ultrasound like this go on to have a baby. 👐❤😭😁
Rants/Raves/Vents: see above

Appt update: they just did an exam, took history, bloodwork, urine sample, etc.
But the good news is I have an ultrasound set up for Monday morning first thing, and I really liked the midwife. She put me at ease right away and even told me she understood because she had previous losses.

Ok. I'm trying really hard to be cool about my US tomorrow but it's not working. I don't think I will sleep much today. This may or may not be helpful, but before my appointment this morning I kept telling myself, "if the worst happens, I know I will survive". Knowing that even if this was another loss, I'd carry on helped me. I'm sorry this is so scary.

I'm trying to stay distracted this evening. At least the appointment is early in the morning. You’re doing lots of great things to take care of yourself. Also a bit of a wildcard suggestion but In the past I’ve helped myself to sleep with a Benadryl or Gravol (drammine in the US I think?) on nights before big appointments. 🤷🏻♀️😬
