Work is so nuts. Like everyone is stretched too thin. I’m working from home tomorrow for the first time ever and I can’t wait to do things without everyone bothering me. I have a massive to do list

mwhip, my go to gifts for the DC teachers are usually a gc w a handwritten note about any positive impacts or changes I have seen in my kid while in their class. This is a timely discussion as I just gave notice to our DC that Aug will be C’s last month (he will be going to a preschool near our home, rather than my work). I want to get his teachers good bye gifts.

I talked to the vet...it's what I was expecting to hear. Luna has a large tumor on her liver. The only way to 100% tell if it's cancerous is to biopsy, which I would have to be sent to a different vet, and it would be expensive. The vet said based off what she's seeing, she feels pretty certain it is cancer. Based off her age, she recommended a steroid which has an anti-inflammatory, plus some pain relief. She said it will increase her water and food intake, which with the incontinence we are already seeing, it will make it worse. But we could possibly see a bit of weight gain, so that would be positive. It isn't possible to know how much longer we have, but the steroid will keep her more comfortable, until the point that the tumor is too large and it's painful for her to eat or drink, then the decision will be made regarding quality of life.
I hate this. But at least we have more time together. She's going to be damn spoiled until the time comes!

When we went to the farmer's market Cadence saw a girl playing the violin. She is now saying she wants to play the violin. There is a kid's starter set that is like $60 on amazon, so it's not breaking the bank. If she actually likes it I would look into possible lessons. If this was your N13 would you buy a violin?

Morning all! Picking up off the flamingo 's post in the other thread, B's birthday is in 2 weeks and I have 0 ideas of what to get him. People are starting to ask and I don't know what to tell them. He mostly plays with whatever S is playing with. They have tons of toys. He has more clothes than I do. We got him a Moana book that makes Moana noises when you push the buttons. He's literally obsessed with Moana and the music so I think he will go crazy for that. That's probably the only gift we will give him. But I have no idea what to tell my friends and family! Does he need anything like a suitcase, lunch box, backpack, ect? Anything for his room? Character sheets, room decor? My BFF's 10 year old son just cleaned out all his stuff and dropped of 8, yes 8, backbpacks. But in all seriousness, no, he has his personalized pottery barn lunchbox, and everything to go along with it. He's still in his crib, and I have 5 sheets for it, so no need for anything till we get him a bed. I asked for room decor for Christmas. The pictures my bff got him are still waiting to be hung by MH, so... I will probably just tell everyone anything Moana and see what comes in And maybe a new truck or 2. He loves those.

I had to have a very "adult" conversation with S yesterday but I think it went well. There is a boy, L, who apparently has been going around kissing friends against their will. He told me about it and we had a long conversation about how you should only kiss and hug someone if you want to and if anyone touches you/kisses you etc when you do not want it that you should immediately tell them to stop and tell someone. I am not great with having these conversations so I'm glad it sort of came up organically. That's crazy the behavior isn't stopped or he isn't separated. Our school has a very open "kissing is for mom's and dad's only" rule. And the kids will tell others about it. And even hugs kids can say no. Although the was a mass hug for E after returning from vacation Oh, apparently it is. S said that he runs after the kids to try to kiss them and the teachers have been separating them and telling him to stop. But apparently he's gotten some in before they've been able to separate them.

I imagine it's tough with two kids of the same gender/interests! Any "experience" type gifts like passes to the zoo/bounce house or trampoline place/indoor playground? Do you need refills on anything (craft supplies, etc)? Stuff for his bedroom (esp if he'll move into a "big boy" bed soon or whatever)? Suitcase/overnight bag or backpack? My parents have given Stride Rite gift cards before, which are great b/c Lord knows, kids always need new shoes. That and something "fun" but small for the child to open is a great gift. Maybe that is a suggestion for relatives. eta: i see others have covered this already! Great idea for the stride rite gift cards!

I'd wait it out because I'm cheap and hate clutter. A few months ago I took the girls to a free ukulele lesson. Kid ukes are about the same price. Basically they wanted the uke, but didn't actually want to put in the work to learn how to play. At the one lesson Cass was too young to do much of anything. Maddie started pouting when she didn't master it in 5 minutes. I decided I'd wait until they are older for an actual instrument and possible lessons but for now am fine with more play instruments like cheap keyboards, xylophones, etc.

Honestly, no. At least not after asking one time for sure.

For $60, I would get it and let her try it, then see if it really develops into anything, before signing her up for lessons. Could you check local swap sites and see if anyone is selling cheaper? Or even a used instrument store local?

But I'm a big old softy who lets Colin try anything that strikes up his interest, so maybe you should ignore me. Haha.

Cheap enough, I would, depending on the cost of the lessons. FWIW, a private school we looked at for K-8 has all the kids start violin in first grade. They said it's the easiest instrument to learn when you're young.

I bet he would love something like that!

I’m really sorry mwhip. It’s so rare that liver tumors aren’t cancerous so I think you’re making the right decision. The steroids can help make her more comfortable. Lots of love.

I bet he would love something like that! I saw those recently and thought X would love them. Have you tried any bath bombs? Most might irritate but they have jelly bombs now that leave a moisturizing film on that water/on the skin. They feel kinda slimy so he might think it's cool or have an aversion to it. My boys have a very expensive affinity for all things LUSH, unfortunately.
