Also both my mom & my sister went through menopause fairly early. Not that it means I will, too. But the thought is always there.

So yesterday evening my friends from work threw me a surprise baby shower. Everyone was in on it including MH. I got this strange text from him about not cooking and going to out to eat yesterday afternoon. I gave him a hard time about going home first instead of meeting me after work, but he got me to the restaurant and I cried when I walked in. I was not expecting that at all. After the talk about how hard it is to maintain friendships as mothers of young kids, I was totally in my feels. I'm still overwhelmed from all the support I felt I had yesterday. Everyone had a great time! M got cupcakes and played with the balloons the whole time. He was the only little kid so he got all the attention. He was in heaven.

Welllllll there are two things that came up on the disclosure. I think they are non-issues and I emailed DH to get his input but he didn't respond which is fairly typical of him during the work day. So now I'm waiting until he gets home.

lahdeedah, I'm jealous of your sweet party! I've actually never had a surprise party, I've thrown a few but never had one thrown for me. Were you totally and completely like WTF? Why are there people I know here?

I'm at the OB. It's standing room only. I was on a field trip all day and I have a headache. Do not want to sit here all night but at least I finally got a seat.
DH has a new job since our last kid. New company I think gives a lot of leave. I will need him home to run the other 3 around.

lahdeedah such a sweet surprise!! Re: babies and age. I'll be 33 when this baby is born, and my plan was always to be done with kids by 35. But my mom had me at 40 and my sister had her last kid at 40, and everyone acted like I was crazy for having Landon at 25.

We can't get paid out for unused days. Eventually you stop accruing PTO once you hit 1.5 times your annual grant and HR will tell you to start taking days. Every department has about half the staff they need so it's just a nightmare. Stock price is through the roof, we keep winning major clients, but God forbid you hire anywhere near enough people to mange the new contracts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That sucks major ass. I know you work from home, but I'm sure it would still be nice to be able to take your PTO that you earned. And being staffed appropriately so you could do so without feeling guilt would be even better. Dare to dream, right? It's really not as bad for me as it is for Pete since he's a manager (we work for the same company). They like to squeeze every drop of blood out of us, that's the way they operate. Those of you that say you're too old to have another, do you mean you physically can't or you feel like you're too old? You can tell me to fuck off if you want. I'm just curious because most people I know have kids in their 40's and everyone acted like I was so young having C at 30. I know this is largely #regional. I would just be open to having another but not for some years. Just wondering if I'm overlooking something. I guess mine really isn't about age as much as I say it is. It's more about feeling complete with these two. I say if I were younger, we'd have more, but I might have felt done after two then, too. Basically, I'm talking out of my ass.

Cher I've definitely felt like my body changed a lot after having X. That would factor into things for me. And I just don't have as much energy as I would want for a third (although it's been much better the last couple years). I don't know if that's age or fibro related. I'm 35. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It's definitely different, even between 25 with Landon and 29 with ry. But, like your mom said, that could be just having more kids to chase around. Not to mention we have more life stresses. Like at 25 we had 2 incomes, no car payments and before Landon no one else to take care. Now we have one income, a bigger mortgage, a car payment, and three other kids in tree separate schools.

Cher I think I just worry about more complications. I know it's more common now to have babies in your 40's but I think it'll be harder. Maybe it's an unwarranted fear I have. Also, in my head my 20's were one big party, my 30's I settled down, got married, and had my babies... I see my 40's as the next phase with kids in school, more travel, etc. IDK. Edit: MH is 100% done after 2, so this could very well be my brain rationalizing it like it's my decision when it's really not.

That was so sweet lahdeedah! I've never had a surprise either csho. Not bc ppl haven't tried but bc they suck at surprises- leaving the shower invite on their fridge or the date prominently marked on their calendar, forgetting I would be at their home....

I feel like I have been very lucky to have 2 babies - both conceived fairly easily, both healthy, at my age. Personally, I like a decent age gap between babies, and esp with mh away so much, I'd want them to be more self sufficient before trying again. That would put me at 45 or close to it before trying to conceive again. I just don't think I'd be up for it. I do agree with you (obviously) that 40s is not too old. I just personally think 45 is too old for me to do it again. I don't think I'm explaining myself well

I like being "young enough" that I feel I can still enjoy my time w the kids and have the energy for them. My status quo these days is tired, so I can't imagine how I'd feel if I were older and raising them. Mh loves the fact that by the time they are grown and out of the house, we will be in our early 50s and according to him that is still young and we will have lots of time for travel, hobbies, etc.

I'll already be in my 60s when B graduates high school. I want to be around for more with them!

Minor water damage from a broken dishwasher they are planning to repair before close. Also they said they are in the flood plain but we checked and although technically that's true, the home is protected by a diversion. DH agreed these are not big deals and we're still a go on making an offer.

But add me to not really being too old but being too old. Assuming Chase graduates college at 22, I'll be 59 and DH will be 60. I can't imagine retiring before college is over and paid for, so I can kiss any dreams of an early retirement goodbye!
