6 weeks sounds good until it's 2 weeks in and you just want him to go back to work because watching him play video games is just annoying the eff out of you while you try to bf a constantly crying child.....I mean....from my experience. BUT, you have a good h who actually helps, so I'm sure it will rock for you guys. My H is helpful but I don't want to spend 6 weeks straight with him.. I would probably try to break it up if that was allowed. Like 2 weeks right off the bat, 2 weeks near the end of my leave and then use it for sickness/dr. appointments. It actually ticks me off that A's company doesn't do this. They claim to be a "small, family centered company" but they are not.

Lol, I'm sure at some point he'll drive me crazy, but dh is actually amazing helpful and hands on when it comes to the kids. He'll pretty much do everything for the big kids and he's awesome at changing diapers and letting me nap and stuff.

Yeah, see, mh's theory was that I would do all the "baby stuff" and he would go through a drive thru any time I said I was hungry. Other than that, I barely saw him. He was either in his room playing computer games or in the living room playing video games. I've straightened him out since then, though. lol

ETA: mh is better at the caring for children thing now, we were both very new at it all....although I'm not sure it would be any different if I had a 2nd. I would probably tell him, "eh, I'm good, you go back to work. I can handle it." Dh was at home for six weeks when dd was between 6-12 weeks, it was great! He took ds on little trips, did groceries, cleaned etc. ETA we did go away for a week at the end, because the walls where closing in on me.

I also think there would be a difference between first kid and second kid.

I also think there would be a difference between first kid and second kid. Definitely! I would be sending him out the door with the big ones and napping with the newborn like God intended.

I'm actually pretty excited for the next time. With M it was great but over whelming because FTM. With J I was secluded in fracking Indiana and felt lonely and depressed. This time we'll be in our new house, around all our friends and family and I can send the big ones to the sand box and swing on the porch swing in the shade with the newborn. And J will be older than M was when he was born. So I think it will all around be a better experience. GDI. Now I want to be pregnant. See what you caused xolastunicornxo?!

6 weeks is awesome and will be so helpful to get the older kids where they need to go.
MH got 4 weeks which was great, but we used it do that he was home for 2 up front and then he stayed home for 2 weeks when I went back to work to bridge the gap until daycare started.

Unicorn is going to have eleventy kids so at that point, I'll have my neighbor live with me for six weeks and give me a hand. This policy seriously came at the perfect time for you guys, Unicorn!
Meanwhile, my FIL is MH's boss and he's going back to work as soon as I get out of the hospital and I'm like, "byeeeeee! A few days in a hospital together is enough for me!"

MH didn't get paternity leave, but when he was home, he'd take M out to the store or the park so i didn't have to worry about both of them.

Cadence slept on her stomach, draped across my stomach while I laid on the couch. No sleeping for me. Mh was nice enough to capture that in photos...every. freaking. photo.

What a great "surprise" sands!
H took a month off for each boy. I had a rough recovery with Evan, so it was great having him home. And with Ben, he spent a lot of time taking Evan out of the house so that I could sleep with Ben. The second time around was definitely easier on both of us because we knew what the hell we were doing!

I have to leave in 10 minutes to go get Evan. It's so beautiful out, I really don't want to spend the afternoon in a doctor office. Maybe ill treat him (us) to ice cream on the way home.

That would have been amazing. MH went back to work super quickly after #2 (like we came home from the hospital and he went upstairs to his office to do work). He also travels a lot and missed most of this past year since he started his own business shortly after we had him. He tries to help with the baby but is great with the big one - taking him outside - for walks etc. He is going to be home a lot more for the next 2 months and on some levels it will be great, on some I am sure I will want to kill him. Plus I am very set in my ways. I have to constantly remind myself that his way is just different, not necessarily bad.

MH took 5 weeks when we had B, but then chose to go back to work 2 weeks after we had C. I didnt mind - he took B to DC during the day and I had snuggle time w my newborn. As a STM, I was not panicked about being alone w a baby, like I had been when we had B.
