Kids are great at knowing who will and won't let them get away with things. Cadence asks for a snack, I tell her to get it herself. If she asks mh, he will get up and give her whatever she wants. The same goes for at school or swim lessons. At her old swim school I had to tell them, don't let her get away with goofing around. She had one coach that would just let her play the whole time. No. She can do these skills and you need to stay on her to keep her focused. But you know, what do I know, I'm just a mean mom always in her bizness! I meant to comment on that yesterday. LO has started to say I'm mean or grandma is mean when he's not getting his way. I think it's the age.

flamingo - I'm worried that DH will be like your Aunt, but only with Chase. He babies him more at almost 2.5 than he did with Colin at 1.5!! Colin loves to help out with Chase. He really shines when he gets to be our helper.

One of my friends asked me to go to LA's Slutwalk.
The name doesn't bother me and I support the message but I feel like Pete won't understand it at all.
Thoughts?

He really shines when he gets to be our helper. I was actually just reading recently that children as young as toddlers instinctively want to help and contribute, and that it's beneficial to let them--even when it's inconvenient--b/c that is how they establish that they're part of the family. It's sweet that C1 is so good with C2. To a certain extent, it's probably somewhat natural/common to 'baby' the baby. I think expectations are almost always highest on the oldest child, and that is compounded when a second one comes along b/c suddenly that older child seems SO much more capable in comparison, if that makes sense? I do think part of my aunt's problem is that she was widowed when the kids were young, so she's never really had a parenting partner to play good cop/bad cop with, or just to bounce things off of. And honestly, we all know sometimes it's easier/requires less energy to just do things ourselves, as opposed to taking the time to teach a child to do for him/herself. IMO, ideally there's a balance so neither parent has to be the bad cop all the time. DH is more firm with the kids on certain things than I am, but then there are other things I'm more strict about. These are just random Flamingo parenting ruminations...C's napping and DH and B went out so the house is peaceful and I can ponder, lol.

All done with the state. They didn't send me a form they needed me to fill out. Did it online while on the phone and they processed it. Thank goodness this is my last disability payment and I don't have to stress about FMLA being this complicated.

Please rec your child safe hair detangler. I'm tired of fighting with my 4 year old every morning over whether or not she is going to let me brush her hair! Iβve tried a bunch of different ones. My least favorite are the suave (spray pump sucked) and Aussie (not very detangling). The honest and so cozy ones worked well. Iβm still on the hunt for the best one.

So butt-wiping, huh? I wondered what all the Friday morning chatter was about. FTR, Cass usually has a "clean break" so it's not much to worry about. She can wipe herself and does most of the time but sometimes she asks me to do it. Occasionally I oblige. Overall I'm really working on independence with both of them. Madison can usually shower herself including rinsing her hair well although sometimes I double check because she missed a spot. Cass can mostly shower on her own. I'm starting off in the new house with regular chores. Madison will be responsible for vacuuming daily--the robo vac downstairs every other day and the stick vac upstairs the days in between. She's very thrilled about getting vacuums as a present. Cass has been doing dusting for a while and I think her new "present" for the new house will be more duster wands. I'm a very giving mother as you can see. I'm going to ensure that healthy snacks and cereal will be available in the pantry where they can reach it. They already get themselves pottied and dressed in the morning. Next will be to work on putting backpacks away and emptying lunch boxes.

Pulling from the confessions thread (I'm too scared to ask over there) are your kids wiping themselves? Cadence still calls one of us to do it and I don't know who is doing it for her at school, although most of the time she doens't poop at school. H wipes on her own.

klong11 I haven't found a good kid's spray detangler. They don't seem to do much. What works best is putting their hair in a ponytail or bun before bed plus a good brush. Actually, what truly worked best was chopping their hair. Best decision ever. They now can brush their own hair and I don't have to mess with it.

I still wipe O. But he hasnβt been pooping on the potty for a full year yet. When he started pooping on the potty at school his underwear was beyond what you would call skid marks. It was almost like he crapped his pants!
Two days ago he pooped at his friendβs house and tried to handle it himself. Well he ended up with poop on the floor, on all of his clothes, etc. i was mortified when his friendβs mother told me. I was wondering why he was in his bathing suit when i picked him up. Needless to say, now i am supervising his wiping rather than doing it all myself.

Tonight if it works out we're going to a Mary Poppins play at a local high school. The girls love MP, Maddie especially. It should be cute. tgrimes I was thinking of that exact scene from The Parent Trap with the bear talk! I love that movie. One of my childhood favorites. My sister and I used to pretend we were Sharon and Susan. "Cahn't, shaunt, aunt."

I'm now pondering getting the TB boots. I usually wouldn't spend that much on boots, but I haven't been able to find a pair of black boots that I like in a few years and I think I may like them, so I think I may try them. They had my size yesterday, but I may give it a few days and if they are still in stock, then I'll pull the trigger.

There were a few items I was stalking (casual/not particularly expensive) but theyβre all gone. The TB flats I want are still there but Iβm debating pulling the trigger...I think Iβd rather have them (or similar) in camel vs. black.

We were in the line for hot dogs after VBS and Evie dropped hers. They got her a new one so I asked the lady behind me to grab the ketchup for me. She gave me the most reproachful look and said "I can in a minute. This is why I hold onto the plate, I don't trust my kid with it."
Thanks for the tip, perfect lady with one kid π

Hi! I'm in denial that some of N13 is heading to k. One of J's bff's is about to turn 6 and his last day is today. I'm so sad about it, he's the sweetest friend.
We still help j wipe. We need to up the fiber bc he was in pain this am and I felt awful. I ask him every day if he pooped at school and he clearly isn't accurately reporting π.
I got 100 on my midterm last night, granted it was open book, but I was super nervous. We head to PA tomorrow, I'm pretty excited to be off for a week!

I'm going to brag for a second about my kid. At the end of the school year MH forget to inform the school that M would not be taking the bus and instead need to take the taekwondo van. They didn't listen to her protests and put her on the bus anyway. She problem-solved and asked her bus driver to call MH, and gave her his cell number even though we hadn't practiced it in months. I was super proud of how she handled that.
Another brag, Madison told me the other day, "You know who I would go shopping with? Darth Maul. Get it? Darth MALL." Her "jokes" usually don't make any sense and she made this up herself and it was actually good.
