So I officially (at least in my mind) can't have dairy. I avoided dairy for a few weeks and she didn't have as bad of gassy/pooping problems. I also stopped drinking my Ice Water due to a recall. I thought maybe it was the drink so I had some pizza Tuesday this week. I regret that. E has had pooping issues yesterday and today. Hopefully it gets out of her system quickly. I don't want her to be uncomfortable.

Very ambitious, dapostrophe. FX for some great memories and hoping a good time will be had by all. klong11 I hadn't heard about this? I'll have to ask Pete what he knows. How long before your brother will know? flamingo @anybodyelse Is VBS the same everywhere insofar as having a religious overtone or are there just "camps" hosted by churches? My mom used to be the Assistant Director of the children's program for our church and I remember doing plays of scenes from the Bible. Well VBS stands for vacation bible school so yes, I’d assume they all have religious overtones. H’s VBS was “science” themed but it all tied in to god and they got religious coloring sheets to bring home.

Speaking of VBS tonight was the “party” for parents and everyone to go to. It was supposed to go till 8:15 but the presenter guy went to 8:30 and we didn’t get out of there till 8:45. S is overtired and crabby so that’s fun. H is messing around and avoiding going to sleep. These hooligans better sleep in tomorrow.

My mom used to be the Assistant Director of the children's program for our church and I remember doing plays of scenes from the Bible. IME yes, it's religious. Usually there's a Christian theme and all the crafts, activities, etc. go along with that. It's typically free, or maybe they ask for a very nominal donation to cover supplies. I've been seeing the same "themes" at area churches around town and on FB (some of my friends volunteer with their churches) so i think there must be companies that specialize in creating VBS materials now. My mom used to teach it and I can remember her being up late at night cutting out sheep from felt for a craft, lol. eta: both the camps B is attending this summer are part of church-affiliated preschools, but the camps themselves are secular (themes are things like Dr Seuss, Science, Insects, Cooking, etc). So they are a separate entity from VBS.

cagoldi I'm cracking up about the idea that vacation BIBLE school might not be religious 😂. I grew up going to church but I'm all types of weirded out talking about religion with my kids. So I just avoid it🤷

Evie is attending 2 VBS's next week, one in the mornings with FIL and SMIL at their Church then one in the evenings with my mom at her church. Two different denominations. I'm glad she goes so she can learn about religion and decide if she wants it to be part of her life.
We don't attend church, but have talked about finding a non-denominational to attend. We should probably try harder to find something.

If I say no, or try to enforce anything (bedtime, dinner eating, etc) I'm told that I am sooooo mean. I've responded with "I know, right?" and telling her that it isn't nice and hurts my feelings. She doesn't care.

I just responded with “good that means I’m doing my job.” He wasn’t impressed.

So I just avoid it🤷 Yeah I meant more like is VBS a catchall term for the religious programs and the camps that flamingo mentioned. I guess I can reliably assume VBS will have those lessons and the preschools affiliated with churches may or may not have camps that are secular but I'd probably have to call around to find out. I am not going to send them for any type of religious instruction. If they choose it on their own, that's something different. Does J ask any questions about it? Atticus has inquired about churches and I didn't know what to tell him except "some people believe in God and they like to go there to learn about him." Beyond that, I'd have a hard time not letting my own experience dictate my answers. I guess it's okay to give an "in my opinion" type of response. Maybe Pete should handle this...

cagoldi I have mixed feelings about LO going to a religious school. Especially since when we did the tour they made it sound like the religion part of it wasn't as big of the preschool program as it really is. However LO has enjoyed it. We did make he decision that he was not going to VBS or their summer program. Even if my parents didn't take him this summer. I think next summer he will be old enough to do some of the camps in the area. Maybe A and LO can do the same ones.

We are not at all religious, and have had very few questions to date regarding church, but Josie did tell us the other day that Jesus was our president. When I started to correct her she said, "I was just kidding, I know it's George Washington."

Also the preschool we signed Josie up for next year (if we don't do K) is a private preschool on a church's grounds, but it has no affiliation with the church, and I was assured it is secular. I though that was weird.

This is a much better answer than what I gave C last week. He asked about Church and asked why we don't go because my parents go. I was caught off guard and made a face like this and said "Ooh I don't do Jesus". My parents died a little that day.

I though that was weird. I think a lot of schools rent space at churches. It an easy income for the church if the space isn't used. N's daycare she just left was in a church, the only time it was noticable was during the performances bc they were held in the church.

I also get a lot of "mom, get out of my business" or "it's not your business", which is technically what I tell her when she asks things about random people. To that I respond with, "as long as you are my child I'm going to be all up in your business!"

I though that was weird. There is a preschool like that here, at the church we’ve (sporadically) attended. I thought it was strange that they offered a Mother’s Morning Out Program for littles, but no preschool (esp b/c it’s a pretty large church). Meanwhile I kept hearing about XYZ Preschool/Kindergarten. I finally realized that XYZ essentially leases space from the church, so while it’s on the campus, it’s not affiliated with the church and is not religious.

I'm wondering what happened so quickly. It’s just awful...13 are confirmed dead and 4 still missing. It’s 2 hours from us. MH doesn’t usually get called out for things that far away. But a friend of ours who works for MSHP water division went. The weather had gotten pretty rough and I saw video of the water...it was extremely turbulent. So although the life jackets may have been easily accessible, things probably happened so fast, that in a panic, people were not able to get them. Just my assumption.

I probably saw the same video as you, from someone's private dock I believe. I have never seen lake water that rough. They were talking about it on the radio station I listen to this morning and someone called in and said they recently put plastic or plexi glass all the way around the boat, or enclosing the awning essentially, thus making it hard to escape from, in the event of taking on large amounts of water or capsizing. It's awful.

Our DC is on church grounds but not affiliated with them at all. I made sure to get a very clear answer on that when we enrolled and think they felt like I was being a little extra with those questions.
