piratecat I think I’m going to try the basket on top of the changing table. DD can be such a wild one when changing her diaper.

piratecat do you get a lot of use out of the learning tower you have? I see the collapsible ones, but I'm hesitant to drop that kind of money if it doesn't solve a problem. We are just starting to use it. J's not walking or standing on his own yet so still a bit unstable when he tries to stand there and do anything at the counter. But we got a crinkly chopper thing for him to use to chop fruits and vegetables and he seems to enjoy that. He is a busy guy and has to be DOING something so he's not good at just standing there and watching but needs a task. We got it as a gift for his birthday - I don't think I could have paid for it myself either, but I have since seen it show up on CL so keep an eye out for it. Otherwise I think I would have gone the IKEA step stool hack route.

gingy, screen time. Really it was the only way to distract DD long enough to get my shit together. We did have to stop it a few months ago, because at 2 she would throw a massive fit when I turned the tv off, but now that she's older she's more apt to play on her own and let me do my thing without needing the tv.

Interesting. He's never cared about the TV for more than a minute at a time, but maybe I'll give this a shot tomorrow and see what happens.

gingy, it might also be a personality thing. My 3 year old never went through it and happily plays by himself all morning. My 6 year old? This morning he was literally sitting on my lap as I was going through my work email before taking him to camp.

Not gonna lie, we will put on Netflix in the morning and let her watch 1-2 episodes (they're only like 12 minutes long) of Word Party while we get ready. It's the only way to because she gets up practically at the same time our alarm clock goes off, so we can no longer get up and ready before she wakes up.

We tried some Netflix this morning while I was with him, and it would catch his attention enough that he wasn't quite as clingy as yesterday. He kept crawling back to me to nurse, though. Baby steps.

I’m so glad you guys talked me into trying to wean off the snooze feed. Yesterday he woke up and cried for a couple of minutes, which he’s been doing after I nurse him and put him back down anyway, and went back to sleep til 6:15. This morning he squirmed and fussed a bit but didn’t even really wake up at his usual nursing time. I really thought it was going to be harder than this! I’d love for him to sleep later than 6:15 but I’ll take it!

piratecat - I haven't seen those, I'll have to look! That would be a good project for this weekend. We have a Tula, but she won't have that in the morning - she can't see the counter on my front or back. The ring sling allowed for a side carry, but I'm just out of practice. I should give it another shot. I also feel like a real downer about mornings. I just kept thinking for the last 6 months that I would sort it out and find the answer to make our morning routine easy and happy, and have eventually given up hope. I know eventually I will not have to hold a 30 lbs child while I moisturize and put on deodorant, but that day feels far away. Don't give up hope! Promise. One day you'll be able to get ready by yourself.

I'm currently sitting outside on our rocker with an adult beverage.
Alone.
ALONE.
H is working on some projects out front, DS1 went with the neighbors down the road to a park, and DS2 has been snoozing for....quite some time. I'm fully expecting him to wake up any second here but man....I've been out here enjoying this beautiful day for like an hour.
ETA everyone's left me alone since like.. 2 though. Amazing. But I didn't sit down til like an hour ago. ::siiiiigh::

Tonight is DD’s first night with a blanket. She’s been wearing sleep sacks/bags since birth. The only reason she’s not wearing them anymore is because I can’t find the fleece ones in her size. I guess Carter’s is trying to tell me something. I’m kind of nervous. I know she can have a blanket once she’s 1, but I’m still nervous.

We have a large Halo sleep sack, which is good up to 28 lbs and I think there's an XL for up to 36 lbs. It's been too warm for blankets but we might try it out with naps once it gets cooler since I don't have a large lighterweight sleep sack for shoulder seasons. He is such a squirmer though, I can't imagine a blanket would be effective.

I've been curious about blankets too. We have a muslin sleep sack he's using now, but he tries to use a tiny A&A security blanket to cover himself at night. It's so cute. I think he'd do well with a blanket, but it makes me super nervous.

DD is a relatively sound sleeper. She rolls but not much. Most times she ends up throwing the blanket off. We used a baby blanket (we got a dozen or so when she was born) at first for naps then used them at bedtime. At around 15 months we got a super thin toddler pillow from IKEA. I like it because it was inexpensive, and easily washable. We started with the big quilt I made her in February after I broke my arm and had to convert her crib. I had a winter baby so my approach was different. We kept our house warm, but I didn't continue with sacks after a year. I didn't see the point. Warm jammies and a light blanket was enough.

+1 to being nervous about blankets! V started sleeping with a small stuffed animal at 13 month when we took away her pacifier and that made me so nervous.

Also daycare has always had us send a blanket with her for naptimes. That kind of helped me get over the fear. Yes someone is right there, but if she's not rolling like crazy there I felt ok at home. I still check on her every night before I go to sleep though.

DS1 only started keeping them on around 2.5ish?

DS2 gets a Tula blanket at night and it’s always at the bottom of the crib by the end of the day. He’s had one at daycare since he started napping in the crib. I let daycare do everything first lol

Regardless, my kiddo is probably a little over 20lbs and 30" and there is plenty of room in the large Halo.

I like the long sleeve sleep sacks and most of the Halo ones are sleeveless. But I think we are going to back to a sleep sack tonight. I was just too nervous. She is a squirmer but she still managed to keep the blanket below her chest.

But at daycare she sleeps on her back and at home she rolls over on her stomach, for nighttime sleep.

Last day of July randoms ! So with blankets should you start with very light ones before going to a comforter ? Also what age for a pillow ? I guess these are google -able questions but I want to know what worked for you girls I start with a muslin blanket. DS1 was moved into a twin bed with full bedding at 20 months (needed the crib for DS2) and then I only got him a thin children's pillow at 2.5.
