Did I tell you all that I looked into a survival skill swimming lesson for the boys and OMG to the prices. There is a $65 dollar registration fee for both boys and then two payments of $270 for each child, so over $1000. The lesson is 10 min a day, 4 days a week, for 6 weeks. That seems so expensive to me, but I know it will be worth the peace of mind I will have knowing they will be equipped with these skills.
So what's the going rate for swim lessons in other areas. I was only paying the YMCA $70 as a non member for 2 weeks, 30 min/day.

Yikes. That's crazy lahdeedah, but I'd do it if I had a pool. Without a pool (or kids going to a relatives on a regular basis who has a pool) I'd just do regular lessons. Our Y is usually about that price but the sessions are typically 4 weeks if I remember correctly. We haven't done lessons in a while and for the time being are just swimming regularly. I definitely noticed that every time we did lessons the kids who were the best swimmers were the ones whose parents stay after lessons ended so the kids could swim more. I know some people don't have that time, but it made a difference for the kids to have more opportunities to practice their skills.

Hello. Long night last night. Baby was all congested and couldn’t sleep so we watched half of the Bachelorette at 1am. DD has a half day today, DS is on a field trip, T had a regular day. Gymnastics and hockey tonight. Services for grandma will be Monday and Tuesday. The wake is 5 consecutive hours. I need to find something to wear that allows me to feed the baby.

LO knew how to float on his back, how to get to the edge of the pool and pull himself out via the ledge not the stairs around age 1. We do at least 3 of these so about $75 a year. He's not a super strong swimmer but I'm less nervous around pools with him. E will start sessions in January if the weather is nice.

lahdeedah I just double checked my bank account and I paid $244.80 for the summer session, which is 12 classes. I might look around. This guy is someone that was recommended to me. M is comfortable in the water, but I wanted a little more aggressive lesson than what the Y offers. He has had lessons once a year for the past 3 years. I might just plan for M2 to do it if I can’t find anything else in the area that’s cheaper. inthekitty I agree about spending extra time. I usually watch the lesson and take notes so we can practice the same exercises on the weekends at the pool.

lahdeedah 10 min lessons?? Did I read that right? We are doing lessons through the county this summer and it's $58 for 8 weeks, which seems basically free. The ones we did in the winter we're basically $30 a class.. so we shall see tomorrow how the two compare.

Ugh, that reminds me. I keep meaning to sign my kids up for swim classes. I was going to look into the Y as well. We belong to a pool, but the lesson times were not conducive to a working mom scheduled. Ouch to that cagoldi. 🙀

I think P will crawl sooner than either of the boys. Her neck control is really good and she's trying to get up on all fours. I do remember the pedi saying it is easier for smaller babies because they don't have giant heads. X is already feeling much better. I took him out for a jog on the trail this morning and he was in heaven watching the crows, listening to Radiohead, and collecting wild poppies. By some miracle, he's still huge despite eating nothing. He's 21 months and already 35.5 inches and 33 lbs. Check out these hands! They're like catcher's mitts.

I just need to vent about my Dr.'s offices for a minute. I had the appointment last week and a biopsy was recommended. I was told I would get a call this week after my primary spoke to my surgeon. I called the surgeons office yesterday because I hadn't heard. I leave a message. Later in the day I get a call back saying come in on Monday for a consult. I explained I already had a consult and was told to schedule the biopsy. Reception said they would talk to the Dr and call me back. By 1pm today I still haven't heard but am worried they will make me consult again so I want to hold the Monday slot just in case. Different receptionist says there are no notes about any of this, next available is July 23rd. To which I replied "I MIGHT HAVE CANCER!" He then took a message and said I would get a call. Of course, I am in a meeting when the call comes in straight from the surgeon himself. He left his # and I then left him a message. Always fun to have a game of phone tag on a Friday afternoon.
I'm so frustrated. I get people are busy but you don't recommend a biopsy to someone and leave them hanging a week.
ETA: he just called back. I am bringing him my CT films on Monday and he thinks we can do the biopsy next week but his scheduler needs to call me and she may have left for the day. But he said it's no big deal- they numb the area and remove it right in the office. Not thrilled about a scalpel in my neck while awake, but whatever.
ETA#2: Scheduler called and it's next Wednesday. Then suture removal and results 6/28.

I'm terrible and the kids don't know how to swim. I know I need to get them lessons. I will check out the Y thanks to this thread.
My mom had me in ISR starting around 9 months. She says that's the best thing she ever did because when I was three, I fell into a pool. I was at her best friend's house and her son and I (same age as me) were outside alone. I fell into the pool and floated on my back for an unknown period of time until she noticed I was in there and came to get me out.

When I was living in Hawaii with my grandparents my grandma took me to the beach. I didn't know how to swim and neither did my grandma. I almost drowned. I became very fearful of water after that. I did not want LO to be scared of water so that's why we started at 6 months with LO.

tgrimes what did you decide for that shower you were invited to? I sent my niece a text to see if M could come with me. She said she'd ask the hostess but I haven't heard back from her yet. My SIL is actually having a party that day too, so I told her we wouldn't be able to stay the whole time. I also mentioned that depending on how long she'd be in town for, maybe she could meet M some other time. We shall see...
