OK, I know it's still SUPER early to be thinking about names but we didn't decide on a name for DD until a month after she was born. This time SO has been throwing names at me for months now. Maybe we can help each other out. I know names can be HARD.
Anyone started thinking about names yet?

We're going to wait to have the name discussion until we know the sex. I still have my top girl name from last time. It was hard for us to decide on a boy name, and now it will be even harder if it's a boy because it will have to "go" with R's name.

We've had our names picked since my last loss. When I got pregnant again I said "are we still good on the names?" And H said yep! It was super easy this go around.

I have girl names I love. But if it's a boy??? Nope. SO and I have different styles.
If anyone has boy names they want to recommend please do!
We won't get serious about a name until we're much closer and won't decide on one until after baby is here safely...BUT...I do want to at least have a short list going in.

We have a list going. We’ve been kicking names around since before I even got pregnant. For some reason we have a lot more girl names than boy.

I’ve been thinking about names since we started TTC again. I have a girl name picked out, but only a couple of ideas for boy names. We’re trying to work with 3 languages, so that limits things a lot.
H picked DD’s first name. I already called dibs on the next one.

Why are boy names so hard??? notagoddess We're working with 3 languages too. And SO also picked DD's name (well, he chose 2 and I chose the order). He'll probably end up choosing the name if it's a boy but I have dibs on the girl name this time around.

What are some of the names you guys are tossing around?
If we have a boy we're going with Vincent, we love the options for nicknames MN - Roman after H's grandfather and his dad's MN.
Our girl name is Allison. I love the NN Ally. No MN picked yet

It's the boy names that are killing me. I like Noah, Sebastian, Xavier, Caius right now.
But DD has an Eastern European name with a last name that is very Eastern European with J's that are pronouced as Y's so I'm also thinking maybe Luka, Nicola, something along these lines?
I'm not having any trouble with my girl names:)

Foxy Thanks:) As a teacher it's hard to pick names that don't have some sort of student association. I teach a few kids with some of those names now but I love them all:) I love your names too and I've never taught a Vincent...such a great choice! We have close friends and family with Roman and Allison as names and I've always really liked those names too (especially the nn Ally:)

I need help with this.
So funny that so many feel that girl names are easier—they are much harder for me! I think it’s because I am super resistant to picking a trendy/popular name, but a lot of the ones I like happen to be just that.
My other two children have very traditional but unique names. Unique meaning that I don’t know any other children that have them. So anything we pick needs to be in that vein, I think.
We’ve been team green each time so had a name for each sex picked out going in. DS has MH’s grandfather’s first name (mn was my uncle’s) and DD is named after my aunt (same first letter only, and mn for H’s grandmother/my great grandmother). H and I are both into naming after special people (obv) but due to religious beliefs it’s limited to people who have passed.
I LOVED our boy name that we would have used for DD (Declan Joseph) which still would have been first letter for my aunt, mn DH’s uncle’s name), and I still want to use it. But now H wants to use that mn (Joseph) as a first name, with Victor (my grandfather’s name) as the mn. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it, or even like it that much, either.
For a girl we discussed Katherine (Kate) Victoria (first letter for H’s sister and mn for my grandfather) when I was still pregnant with DD for if we had a second girl. (Backstory there is that my grandfather died when I was pregnant with her.) I think it’s pretty. But it doesn’t blow my mind. I’m wondering if I might be able to find any other K names that DH would like. Might be a tough sell though because Kate was H’s sister’s nn even though her first name wasn’t Katherine; H is strongly against using her actual first name but somehow I think wants the nn? Idk.
TL; DR H wants Joseph Victor for a boy and Katherine Victoria for a girl. I am not in love with either, especially Joseph as a first name.
ETA PDQ because I will probably poof some of this later

dashook Are you guys looking for a variation of Katherine? Like Katerina, Kaitlynn, Cadence, Kathleen, Katrina, Katia type of idea or are you open to other names? DD has the feminine version of her grandfather's name who passed before she was born and my grandmother's name as MN (who also passed before she was born) so I get the naming for family thing. If you're not stuck on Kate names do you have a specific letter in mind?

His sister’s name was Kathleen so that’s the only one that’s off the table. I should talk more with him about this but my sense is he would be more open to a variation on Kathleen than to just any name starting with K, if that makes sense.

I think I love the name Kenna for a girl. I remember there was a character on Reign with that name; that was the first time I heard it. The character sucked but I liked the name lol. And a girl from my high school (we aren’t close) just had a little girl and named her Kenna Shay and I think it’s so pretty.
It’s probably too off-kilter for MH though 😕

Sorry, I’m a total PW on this thread.
I just spent a big chunk of a 5 hour train ride making lists of baby names. Come home and tell DH that I did so. I told him we should both have a list of our top 10 (I need to narrow mine) and then talk.
All he said was, “Is Joe in your top 10?” I said “I don’t know.” He said “Do you have a pen? I’ll just write down Joe ten times.” So. Apparently we’re not even going to have a productive discussion about this. I’m also annoyed that he’s not even considering Declan, which we both liked and agreed on and would have used if DD had been a boy. 😤

dashook I love Kenna! I've taught Mackenna and McKenna but no Kenna. So pretty. Ok so my daughter is Mi.la (Mee-la) middle name is A.na (Ah.na) I need a name that matches hers...what do you guys thing of Iva (pronounced Eeva...that is our cultural spelling) or Petra? Opinions? If we go Iva then middle name would be Olja (pronounced Ah-ly-a) and with Petra I'm not sure yet...

dashook Just keep suggesting Declan. With DD we wrote down the names we liked in slips of paper and left them out on the kitchen table so we saw them all the time.

I think both of the names you’re considering are pretty and go with your DD’s name. Iva rhymes a little more (not in a tacky way, just the same vowel combo—ee ah) and strikes me that it probably has a better chance of being mispronounced (which wouldn’t matter to me but I know it can be a consideration).

Thanks guys. I really want Petra too. I threw it out there for SO today so I'll see. It's the feminine version of my grandfather's name so it has family significance too. I'm hoping if I give him middle name choice he'll let me keep it.

dashook I never realized how rhymey they are. Thank you for pointing that out!!! And the pronunciation is definitely a thing. I didn't think we'd have trouble with people pronouncing DD's name but everyone calls her My-la:( I'm leaning toward Petra at the moment (I don't really like Olja as a MN but it was SO's grandmother's name...I don't think it goes with Petra so hopefully he can pick a good MN and let me keep Petra. I think he wants Katherine as a MN which I am totally fine with and I think Petra Katherine sounds nice).

Any boy name recs are appreciated. I like shorter names and ones that are not super common. I think Caius is my front runner but SO really wants Nikola which I don't mind but don't love...I could get him to agree to that as a MN if I could find a name he loves. Any and all suggestions welcome.

dashook For what it's worth, I'm a HUUUGE fan of Joseph Victor. But it sounds like YH is not playing the long game here...if MH was acting like that about a name (which kinda is, about Dax(???!!), it would just make me want it less! sammysam Your names are gorje!! Oh my goodness. I love Petra and Iva. You can't go wrong. We have our girl first name 100%, middle name 90%. The girl name, I made him agree to when we were first dating, lol! Boy name, we have two shared favorites which could end up being first and middle, but I can tell DH is still in the brainstorming phase and worry about where it might lead. For me, it's important to be non-trendy, meaningful to us, and has a nice meaning in general, as well as sounding nice.
