I feel like I've heard that most rescues and the like don't really care much for your average neighborhood bird. So, unless you go with their advice on leaving it outside, Mazel tov on your new family member!

Cher I rescued a robin when I was like 11. He hurt his leg. I put him a little cage with some grass and sticks and fed him a few worms, within a day and a full night of sleep he was hopping around like a maniac trying to get out and I was able to set him free. I hope your bird rescue is short lived like mine.

This sounds like the time I had six baby squirrels for a week. Syringe feeding them Gatorade and milk. Fun times. Omg this is so cute

So, my coworker is living this life too. As of Monday it had been 10 days. They left the bird outside but they did see the mom come feed it. I was really surprised. It’s getting stronger and starting to go higher up on things. So maybe that is what you are supposed to do. I’m guessing it just has a not great success rate. 🙁 We’ve had this happen in our yard under a big tree. Once birds reach the fledgling stage, they often can’t make it back up to their nest and will spend several days hopping around on the ground while figuring things out. The parents feed them. Not all of them make it (true in general for song birds - often only one or two from a larger brood survive to adulthood). I usually try to give them some form of shade and a little water.

A person that cries over a baby bird starving to death will obviously break its neck, lol. One of rescues emailed me back asking to call them, I forwarded the email to MH and asked to handle while I worked out. So hopefully I can drop the little guy off somewhere today. I’m not close to Wilton, Sheila, but if these rescues don’t work out, I will take a drive. We have been syringe feeding him dry dog food soaked in water and sugar, as the Google machine told us to do, but obviously we’re not equipped to raise a bird so hopefully there’s a conclusion to this saga today, one that doesn’t involve snapping a bird’s neck or butt sex.

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I tried to save a baby bird? I brought out a ladder to put it back in it’s nest and I dropped it. It hit every god damn branch on its way down to its death.
Did you know birds scream?

Rescues I’ve called don’t take song birds but they should have info about other people that might. There’s a lady that rehabilitates them out of her home here, so we’ve taken them there in the past per the rescues recommendation. Putting them back/letting nature takes its course is pretty standard advice, as much as it sucks. The babies are high maintenance and need to eat every 30 minutes or so I believe.

Did you know birds scream? Omg, I’m thinking of making you sit on pobre’s bench. Though your good intentions were redeeming. We had a baby bird fall out of its nest and die on our front stoop last year and I cried about it every night for a week (I was in the throes of PPD). Despite the whole nature is bloody in tooth and claw bit, I’m definitely on team save the baby bird. I hope that you can get a rescue to take it Cher!

Did you know birds scream? You dropped it or “dropped it” ho to the neck style? No I got nervous and dropped it and I was inches away from the nest.

Look at that. You got a bird without having to offer up butt sex.

I've no advice I wouldn't look twice at any of the wildlife around me. Baby pigeons better call an uber if they fall out their nests.

shan-ah-doo once at the rescue where I volunteered, I released a bird that was ready to go.... and it was immediately eaten by a hawk. Circle of like and all that. I was horrified.

The rescue is going to take him. She said she would feed him until he’s ready to go back into the Wild and then release him. When MH told me, I said, “so he’s never going to know his mom?” And MH was like, “Cher.”
So I have someone in my house doing work right now. As soon as he leaves, the baby and I are going to take a drive to the rescue. And then I’m buying myself a new pair of sunglasses to cheer myself up. Poor Arnold.

You have a good heart Cher. I’m sure that Arnold Jack-Jack will look back on his champagne bucket times with fondness.

Don't worry Cher, Arnold Jack-Jack will remember you forever. When he gets all better and grown he will come back and find you and bring you seeds that will grow magical gourds filled with gold and cash money. There's a Korean folk tale and this is obviously your future.

I've no advice I wouldn't look twice at any of the wildlife around me. Baby pigeons better call an uber if they fall out their nests. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who would’ve just left that bird outside. I would’ve paid it no mind. Well, I would’ve moved it so my toddler or dog couldn’t have gotten it. I need to say that I wouldn’t break its neck though. Just let nature run it’s course. Natural selection and all.
