So we both called around to rescues and one told us to put the bird outside where we found him and his mom will come for him. Sounded suspect but I don’t want a bird, so we did. We heard birds chirping when we did it, so they were watching us.
Well, MH comes home from hockey after midnight. He says the bird is in the same exact spot we left him in, just sitting there.i start crying (????) and say that’s a horrible way to die, he’s either going to starve or be killed. MH was like, “just tell me what to do, Cher.” So I say, “bring him in.” So, the bird is back in my garage. He’s been upgraded from a trashcan to a champagne bucket. I need to figure this out in the morning.

So. What’s your new pet’s name?

Also, that rescue advice doesn’t sound very rescue-y. I’m glad he’s with you guys. He deserves a Champagne bucket. It sounds like a very stressful couple of days for that baby.

You put the bird in the champagne bucket because you want a new champagne bucket, right?
Arnold is living a better life than me.

So. What’s your new pet’s name? MH calls him Arnold. My kid calls him Jack-Jack. Sometimes they call him Arnold Jack-Jack.

You put the bird in the champagne bucket because you want a new champagne bucket, right? Arnold is living a better life than me. That was MH’s doing. I told him not to, but he was like “I’m not putting him in a trashcan!” I think he feels bad for leaving him outside.

I cannot believe you have a bird! What a random turn of events.

Did you try calling zoos? Maybe they have better advice. My local zoo is the Bronx Zoo so I’m guessing it’s prob hard to get someone on the phone. I’m going to call the rescue tomorrow and say “you’re plan sucked, now what?”

I cannot believe you have a bird! What a random turn of events. There is a bird in my garage that currently has a layover between falling out of his nest and going to a nice rescue. I do not have a bird. Just maybe a bird B&B.

So, my coworker is living this life too. As of Monday it had been 10 days. They left the bird outside but they did see the mom come feed it. I was really surprised. It’s getting stronger and starting to go higher up on things.
So maybe that is what you are supposed to do. I’m guessing it just has a not great success rate. 🙁

But also congrats on your new pet bird.
Maybe arrange some sort of trade with queenofthewildthings, she has a high BATNA for birds.

Yep so basically congrats on your new bird? Haha. What type is it? Anyway you know someone with tween age kids that want a pet? A bird is perfect, they can clean the cage, and put in food no problem. Sounds like a birthday gift for a frenemies kid to me.

Is it a fledgling or like a bald baby bird? I will tell you what I told someone else who I asked me, "I don't know. It's a dumb bird."

We had a baby bird once and the police/animal control came and got it. The guy who came out said our county has two dedicated animal control officers on duty every shift; maybe your county can do something similar? Or sometimes a vet's office will be able to connect you with the right wildlife resource.
I know you don't want a bird, because lol no, but you did the right thing.

Cher are you close to Wilton, CT? If so I have a place you can call. My friend used to work there and they treated wildlife, including birds people found, all the time. PM me if you want the number.
