update: we might be able to get the same rates by leaving Friday, Nov 2, so we'd be here for Halloween!! Fingers crossed this works out with the grandparents. My parents are fine with whatever but ILs are a bit trickier...le sigh. It would be easier to just have my parents do it but I'm trying to be fair and offer split time. Why don’t you just have one set of parents watch them for this trip and the other set the next trip?

sands42 The book flamingo suggested awhile back, The Well Behaved Child, has a section on food and mealtimes that I just read. LSS you only make them what you're going to eat and don't allow them any other food if they refuse it or only take 1 bite, etc. If they refuse the food completely, they go to bed early. He also talks about having the "doctor visit your house." You tell them you talked to the doctor about them not eating their food and she said it must be because they were too tired to eat. So if they refuse to eat what you made them, off to bed they go. I'm paraphrasing a lot but it seems pretty brilliant. I can get more detailed in a pm later if you want. That sounds like "How to Wake the Hellbeast Within Your Child". Cadence would be pissed. In general, she's pretty good about eating 1 or 2 things on her plate and I"m pretty good about making sure there is 1 or 2 things she will eat on the plate. Mh, not so much. Same. I basically follow the approach suggested by Ellyn Satter. Make sure there is always something on their plate they will eat and have them take a bite of whatever the main dish is. I also feed them deconstructed meals. Like tonight we had that one pan Mexican quinoa but I gave the boys quesadillas, tomatoes, and olives also. Honestly? I'm not willing to send them to bed hungry. I just wouldn't do it. So if they don't eat dinner I am more than willing to let them have a banana with PB or something before bath.

We deal with quantity issues with Josie and food. She will eat almost everything, but in such tiny portions that an hour or an hour and a half later she's hungry again. We've switched from a sippy cup to a real glass at meals so she doesn't drink as much as she normally would, and we try to keep her snacking spaced out, but I never feel like I should deny her a healthy snack from the fridge. Atticus and X are free to raid the fridge for carrots, cheese sticks, apples, grapes, cherries, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. at any time. I don't limit any produce (I realize cheese is not produce).

Yeah, I mean it's not ideal but it is what it is. Hard to tell his parents, "Sorry, if you can't do the whole week you can't come". They already have enough (mostly self-imposed) road blocks to spending time with the kids, I don't want to give them more ammo I'm hoping it will work out that his mom will come for the first part (Th-Su), and then my parents will arrive that weekend and take the second part. We did it when we went to Ireland, although it was a bit easier then since my parents were local.

FFTC? I've never been on a city bus. I never really had but in DC they are pretty common to get around, I even commuted on it for a year while pregnant with j. My mom has started using the bus in her town since she can't drive now, we had no idea of the bus routes for the 30 years prior, but it's useful now that she needs it.

FFTC? I've never been on a city bus. I haven't either. We had a university-sponsored bus in college that I used occasionally my freshman year, but it was campus only. First time I rode it, I didn't realize you had to pull a cord to get it to stop...oops. That was a long ride. The light-rail today was new, too. I've been on subways and the L in Chicago otherwise. I wish the one here extended further, it'd be great if it went out to the beach.

Sounds like you have some great options inthekitty! Moving is exciting. My .02 would be that although the new build would be nice, the home maintenance would be a killer. I know of several people who bought 1/2 acre lots, build a 3600 sq ft home as their forever home and they’re moving in 3 years cause it was too much. Of course this brought to you by the person who is constantly in between selling, upgrading, building etc. It’s definitely a hard decision.

I'm the griller in our house too. I'm on the lookout for a father's day deal so I can get a new gas grill. They are so quick to start and I can cook so much in a short period of time in this heat.

We love to grill. C usually does the grilling but I will if he can't. When we first moved to our house we grilled 80% of the time. LO doesn't like certain things in the grill so we don't get to do it as often as we like.

Love the pics! dapostrophe jewels yikes! Hope your home is bee free by now. I’m the grill master of the house, but I’m no master yet. I just learn as I go, but I have it down pretty good now. M loves meat off the grill. It’s gas but I want to get a smoker box to use in it so I can have that smoky flavor.

I’ve also intended to “put my foot down” about dinner with M. He will usually try new things after much protest. There is a variety of things he will eat, but I would like him to eat more veggies. So far he only likes corn, sweet potatoes, and green beans sometimes. I could do better with dinners now a days, but I don’t spend enough tine meal planning and making new recipes. I used to love to cook and try new recipes, but after two kids, I’m all about quick meals with minimal ingredients.

Thanks for the advice and good vibes. We looked at 2 more and right away ruled out one. The other was a contender but ultimately poor use of space lost it for us. I don't understand the choice to have a huge, wide landing area upstairs rather than a normal hallway and put that space into the rooms. I also don't get having a master bathroom so large you could host square dance lessons but taking away from the closet. Dumb. We think the 1/2 acre place would be too expensive and a lot to maintain. We're looking at one more floorplan there Thursday just to he certain, but we're going to proceed with putting in an offer on the horse mural house which first caught out eye. If we don't get what we want we'll stay where we are longer.

Ours are large and more than you were wanting to spend. My in laws bought them as gifts for MH. One is a traeger and I have no idea what the other one is.

Only 4 bedrooms, we need moarrrrr!!! I didn't notice that. I was too transfixed by the infinity pool and that amazing bathtub with the fireplace. I agree more rooms and a nanny's quarters is essential.
