When I was little I called my parents Mama and Papa. Now it's Ma about 90% of the time and Mom the other 10%, and Dad. I dislike Mommy and never used it as a kid, neither do my girls. I get a little laugh every time my dad leaves me a voicemail. He always starts with "Hey Bobyn, it's Daddy." I can't remember the last time I called him Daddy...

I’m mommy, but you have to say it 5 times for each time you need me. 🤣 I’m also Mom and my first name. I’ll answer to pretty much anything. For purposes of this convo though, if I’m typing mama or momma I would always type momma. As in “I get in from my momma”. My kid calls me mommy or mommy kida. Dad is dad, daddy or daddy Mr. kida. I like that she knows our first names for emergencies. She's also been known to call us babe or baby 😂

I call my mom, mama or at times I did say mommy in mushy loving situations.
H is the one that does Moma. I like it

I will answer to mom, mommy or momma ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I prefer momma though. My mom answers to all 3 as well. And I’m southern so it’s spelled “momma” pretty much anytime I see it.

Just to be annoying, in my kids' second language it is spelled Mamma -- but in my world that is the same thing as Mama (although they will disagree vehemently because double M is pronounced slightly differently)
Currently my 5 year old thinks it is hysterical to do the following:
Kid: Mamma
Me: Yes?
Kid: OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH I DON'T WANT TO DIE I SOMETIMES WISH I'D NEVER BEEN BORN AT ALL ... and continue to sing Bohemian Rhapsody at the top of his lungs.
This was really cute the first 5 times. We are at approximately the 10,598 time. So currently I only answer when he calls me Mom.

My kids pronounce it mom-muh. Distinctively 2 m’a and even more so when they are whining. I spell it momma. Same.

Kida, how is it pronounced? Mow-muh? No. Same as mama. He just spells it that way when he texts or writes cards.

They did mostly mama or mommy when little. Now it's mom. My youngest will tend to do mom mom mom mom mom or an exaggerated mother when he really needs something. Even by text.
Dh is dad once they got past dadadada. Growing up in North Carolina it was daddy pronounced deddy.

Did you grow up on the prairie? I call my dad Papa also. He wanted us to sound slightly more Italian than we actually are, most likely. I'm the only one of my siblings that still uses it/used it past the age of 5.

When my sisters are trying to get something from my dad they call him Dada. It's getting silly at this point as they are nearly 24 and 26.

My husband is firmly a "papa". He gets annoyed with dad and especially daddy. I think he likes that papa sounds folksy or something.

I’m Mama and that’s how I spell it.
DW is mommy.
She spells my name momma though. I always thought it was weird but never said anything 🤷♀️

I spell it momma and both kids call me that, although I think DS(14) pronounces it more like mumma and DD(5) says momma. I'll need to listen closely tomorrow
I didn't want to be mommy when DS was little and it stuck. I have wondered if DS would outgrow it and switch to mom but he hasn't yet. He still calls MH daddy too

I'll mess up your data with my foreign ideas.
There is no way Mama and Momma could be pronounced the same in any accent I've ever heard. A and O are completely different vowels.
Mama or Mamma (same pronunciation) is very old fashioned. It was popular in Victorian times.
My child calls me Mummy. Most small children say Mummy and Daddy, and shorten it to Mum and Dad in their teens. Using Mummy and Daddy as an adult is posh at best and affected at worst.

B is Mama or Ma- especially if they are trying to get her attention.
I am Mommy, always.

Mama, but I do feel like they're pronounced slightly differently.
My kids both called me "mom-mom" when they were little, and DS1 calls me "mom" now. DS2 goes back and forth between mommy, mom, and mom-mom.

I've always spelled it Mama, and that seems the most right when I look at it. 2.5 yo calls me Mom, Mommy, Mama, Momdaddy (when she can't decide which one of us she wants), and sometimes by my first and last name, which she finds hilarious.

Ah, thats funny. My kid says mamapapa when she wants both or doesn't care which of us responds.

Someone just posted about this in a FB group to which a friend invited me. <looks around suspiciously>
I have used both. They sound the same to me.

I've always thought it was spelled Mama. I've only really seen Momma online, in Babycenter type groups- "You're doing great, Momma!" That's the only association I have with it so the spelling irks me.
DD (4) calls me Mommy, DS (13 months) calls me Mama. Also the daycare lady, MIL, and other random moms he sees at daycare pick up are also Mama.
