Some of it. Some of it is people gorging themselves at restaurants and getting indigestion because they ate too much rich food. Or their stomach is sensitive and they don't want to admit it. Food poisoning is nasty nasty nasty ! Kind of like when folks say they are not sure if they ever had the flu. If you aren't sure, you have never had it!

I'm starting to think I have a stronger stomach than I thought. I eat at potlucks all the time, at all sorts of restaurants, and even occasionally from buffets. I've never gotten food poisoning. It's probably the power of positive thinking.

I thought food poisoning was just a really good excuse to call out of work. You can come in the next day and no one is afraid of catching anything from you.
The SM post is just going the extra step to cover your bases.

MH and I are arguing about RSVPs right now too. His aunt is retiring this year and his other aunt asked us if we would be at the retirement party, I told her no, and then he privately asked me if we had rsvp’d and I told him no because we didn’t get an invitation. He’s sure this is a mistake and wants to call his cousin and let her know we can’t be there. I’m like DO NOT DO THAT! If we are hearing about a party for the first time 10 days before from someone other than the host it is a safe assumption that we did not make the guest list. And he’s adamant that it could be lost in the mail. I can’t stop him from doing what he’ll do, but I’m right, right? He’s about to make things unnecessarily awkward? Oh this reminds me of the time my H and I were invited to a coed wedding shower, which confused us because we hadn't gotten an invite to the wedding (taking place about a month later). And no, the invitation wasn't lost in the mail as I learned after discreetly enquiring with the maid of honor, also a friend, because I didn't want to embarrass the bride and groom. We were gracious and attended and gave a gift card but I'm side eyeing to this day. I get budgets and not being able to invite all your friends but an invitation to the shower but not the wedding is an etiquette scandal in my eyes. Ha.

You can get salmonella from the pool. I don't think having a strong gut has much to do with it. The cramping/bloody poo cycle some people get with salmonella is ...terrible. I would rather go to work

You can’t tell whether you have food poisoning or a virus unless you’ve been tested.
Also, norovirus is both because it’s a sneaky ducker.

I feel for the Roseanne cast and crew. So many of you guys work with Trumper assholes, but now HWood jobs are a dime a dozen and you shouldn’t take a paycheck if there’s one person in your entire organization that has different views than you? Come on now. Black people have been ignoring racism for a check since white people finally deigned to pay us. I'm very shruggy guy at all the "But you took a job from a racist so fuck you too!!!" I'm seeing everywhere.

It's not food poisoning or getting sick at a potluck I'm worried about. it's accidently eating someone's butt bacteria or cat ass. You probably aren't going to get sick from cat ass but i still don't want to eat it But there's butt bacteria and cat ass everywhere. I refuse to live in fear.

I have a genetic anomaly that makes me resistant to norovirus ( link). Unfortunately the same mutation makes me more susceptible to reacting to bacteria such as e.coli, so I have to be careful with leftovers and such. Even so I've only had true food poisoning once. It's unmistakable.

Flu = 1 time in HS - never have I been that sick Food Poison = 1 time - H & I ate at Cici's Pizza - 3 people in our home we were the only ones to eat there. Both of us violently ill Noro = 2 times - damn daycare - it all started with DS infection in small bowel - 1 time last year - weekend in the hospital - so incredibly painful - not sure how/where it came from
I just know each illness was so different. I think people say food poison when it's not really food poison.

I'm pretty sure my H and I got norovirus once and it was so brutal. Thank goodness for a 2 bathroom house. We had spent the weekend with his family and his cousin arrived and immediately got sick and thought it was food poisoning. Everyone that was there got sick 2 days later.

I do feel like the reports of food poisoning or it's equivalent is talked about a lot here. But I don't pay enough attention to know if it is always the same people, or if it is just a lot of people gathered in one place so it seems like a lot.
a lot.
I've been so sick I wanted to die twice in my life. Once, I got sea sick on a boat that I was trapped on for 8 hours. The other, I got some sort of stomach thing where I could not keep anything in or down for 24 hours.

There's something that I see all the time where I live that makes me fucking crazy and I always get weird reactions when I call people on it. It's when people think they will get or did get food poisoning from ethnic restaurants at a much higher rate than other food establishments. It turns out people don't take kindly to being called racist during a casual chat about local restaurants.
ETA I hope this doesn't come off as WWWB self congratulating it's just something I see a lot people I talk about restaurants a lot IRL.

In my circle it's more of people worrying they are going to get ass piss from the spices because they are not used to them, not that they will get sick due to unhygienic or unsafe cooking practices.

I do not typically discuss stomach virus IRL, because I don’t want to make people nervous.
