My parents want to take LO for a month to Oklahoma but I'm not ok with this. When they are here they are great. But when they are at their house my mom gets it in her mind that she has to weed, mow the lawn, etc every other day and ignores LO. My dad loves playing. With LO but physically can't do a lot of things with LO.
Plus he's my little mini me so I don't think I can go that long without him.

I think a month away would be hard for me. I would LOVE for someone to take my kids for a week, however. Any takers? No?
We might possibly get our first night solo in a few months, if my mom doesn't reneg on her offer to watch the boys for an OOT wedding in September. But it will be quick... Wedding is 4 hours away and she said she'd only watch them for one night so we'd drive down the morning of the wedding and have to drive back first thing the next morning. But I'm still excited. It will be the first time in 4.5 years that MH and I have had a full night without any kids!

Morning! Not much on the agenda today. Thinking of maybe putting the pool up again for the kids. I got dh to agree to us cleaning the garage tonight. I can’t handle how messy it is! I try to keep my mouth shut about it but he has soooo much stuff and so many tools and he is super unorganized. I get so angry every time I try to find a simple tool and have to climb my way to the work bench to not be able to find one. So we will probably end the day with a fight lol. Good luck. The only thing that finally got MH to clean the garage (it's all his crap out there clogging it up) was getting a motorcycle to have a place to put it.

We have a 1 car garage that has MH motorcycles in in. He wants to turn it into t a 2 car garage so I can park my car in it, but it's detached and not close to the house, so I'd rather park in the driveway like 10 feet from the door.

We did "weekends at Grandma's" (my dad's parents) and those went over like a lead balloon. It was way worse than being at home...being force-fed raw carrots and celery, and no snacks. Also, I flew there by myself at 9 or so...direct flight into a small airport, but still, I can't imagine doing that nowadays.
My ILs talk about wanting B to come for a week or two starting when he's 6. I'm kind of ambivalent on the idea. We get stir-crazy there ourselves after a couple days' visit so I don't know what they'd do with him for that long, and I think they underestimate his energy (and overestimate theirs).
I went to sleepaway camp in middle-school and hated it. I was just not a camper. But I'd definitely send my kids if they want to go someday.

So C told me last night hat his friend M wants to come in July/August to help with LO and E. I've never met the guy, he's lived in Hawaii since before I met C. I don't feel comfortable having someone living with us for an extended period of time and potentially watching my son without really knowing him. Plus he has never been around small kids.
Plus I feel he would want C to hang out with him so I don't know how much help he would be. I wouldn't mind him visiting a few days once we have a rhythm.

Yeah, do not want essentially a stranger living with me for a month, esp. with a new baby in the house. It was bad enough having my ILs visit for a few days and feeling like I needed to cover up when nursing, prepare meals/clean up after everyone, etc.

chrisy01 Before MH & I got married, his cousin stayed with us for awhile. He was in town for work for extended periods of time. First time it was a couple weeks, then he came back for a month and then it was 4 months. MH is very laid back and it didn't bother him at all. I...did not like it. Now that I have kids, there is no way in hell I'd do that again.

I remember going to my aunt's house for a week when I was 10. It was spur of the moment because they drove down from MI for a visit that summer and they took me back with them.
Once I turned 12 I spent my summers in NYC for ballet. Depending on the program it was usually 6-8 weeks. I loved it.

I am the dissenting vote on white bottoms. As a matter of fact, B is wearing a white skirt today. It’s called bleach, people!

My in-laws came the day after I had Charlie and stayed for five days. And then I hemorrhaged and couldn't do anything for almost another five days. Terrible start to maternity leave.

My ILs are always yammering on about taking the kids and how we can send them down to FL anytime. I’m not really feeling that. I don’t want to send them as unaccompanied minors.
Then they talk about wanting to take them on trips and cruises. I’m also not ok w them taking my kids out of the country. I mean, they can take me too if they really want to vacation w my kids so badly!

I will say for quite a few years in my early childhood I practically lived with my grandparents. I saw my parents almost every day but generally I stayed with grandma and grandpa. I even lived with them in Hawaii for a couple months. My grandma watched me while both my parents worked so I went wherever she went.

Okay, I had to look because I've never heard of a 3 car garage, that looks like a 2 car from outside. I've heard of those referred to as a 'tandem garage.' We looked at a house like that when we were house hunting and H loved it. I didn’t realize there was a name for it. It’s really nice because the back stall is basically just for storage (for us anyways).

There's a really nice alcove in our garage. Right now it's still full of stacked moving boxes, but it will be very helpful soon.

C got his very first invite to a friend’s bday party from school. He is so excited and was carrying the invite around last night. On the other hand, B is pretty jealous and doesn’t understand why she can’t go. I’ve tried to explain to that she’s gone to so many parties for her friends, so now it is C’s turn.

I was frequently sent to my great aunts' houses for a few weeks in the summers. I have a million Mexican aunts and some are sweet, but there is one that was a tyrant. Like flamingo's Grandma, she force fed us things and also had a thing for washing out mouths with soap. I have an egg issue to this day because of one unfortunate breakfast incident and my sister got the soap more than once. I'm sure this is part of what makes me keep my kids close by 😬

I mean, I probably wouldn't put her in them and send her to the park, but for just running around town they could be ok? I oxyclean all the kids' white shirts anyway so what's one more. Maybe I will join you on your bench.

chrisy01, that's weird and no to having a stranger around when I'm post-partum and have boobs flailing about and mesh underwear. nam2013 happy birthday to your sweet girl! We have a "2 car" garage that is not big enough for 2 cars. When I had my Sentra I could just barely fit it in there with parking to where my bumper hit the blockade for the water heater, but now my Camry is too long to fit in it. So instead that's where my treadclimber is. I dream of a 3 car garage. Space for both of our cars plus bikes and shelves. *Sigh* I used to stay overnight with my grandparents and it was really fun. The longest I was away was for a school week of outdoor school in both 4th and 5th grade, 8th grade trip to DC, and then being an outdoor school counselor my senior year. Loved every minute of those trips. My girls have stayed for a week with my parents before and will again this summer but I'll join them mid-way into it for a mini vaca down there. It's definitely easier for me to have them away when I'm on vacation so I'm distracted by their absence. I know they're in good hands and love it there. They can hardly be bothered to talk to me on the phone when they are there.

I'm glad you girls agree with me. Now it's trying to tell C no without hurting his feelings. I tried last night and he became moody so I ended the conversation with, let's see how I feel and how long my parents end up staying. I dnw to have my parents and M all visiting at the same time. He seemed happier with that answer.
