Canada is also imposing dollar for dollar retaliatory tariffs. This is smart on the part of Mexico and Canada (and any other country who does the same), but it still sucks for the people all over. Fucking 45 and his "Imma make the bestest deals." He's so stupid that he has no idea he's stupid.

I'm beginning to think that America is never going to be able to recover its reputation after he's out of office. No matter if we elect Biden or Booker or Harris or someone else who is respectable and knows to surround him/herself with smart people who know what they're doing. We are always going to be the country with President 45 in its history.

The White House wants TBS to shut down Samantha Bee. 1) This is a gross violation of the 1st amendment. 2) This is what dictators do, not democracies. 3) I WILL BURN IT ALL DOWN if TBS cancels Full Frontal. The White House has no right. 😠 And this is also why I have an issue with people comparing a vulgar insult with overt racism, specifically a racist comment that has a long and disgusting history in this country. It's not the same. But now all those racists think calling a woman a c***t is the same as calling a black person an ape/monkey. Jfc.

One is racist and inexcusable, the other is crass and in my opinion slightly misogynistic.

And while not as crass, I also think b*tch is slightly misogynistic, yet that's frequently used without any kind of uproar. The bigger issue as I see it is not what a television political comedian says, it's that we have a vulgar, self-admitted p***y grabber in the office who is enacting policies that are actually hurting people, not just (my/your/our) delicate sensibilities.

And now the troll armies have been deployed to take down Full Frontal. I wish Twitter had a "report troll" function... They've been looking for someone to target so they can get in their "the left is just as bad" false narrative. No one cared about Bill Maher when they tried it and it came out that Whoopi's shirt was photoshopped, so Samantha Bee it is. And we all know how much the public likes to tear down strong and fearless women, especially if they're critical of powerful men. And don't get me started on the painting of Ivanka as the epitome of virtuous white womanhood that must be protected at all costs. I have a lot of thoughts about that particular narrative.

Interesting thread from Rebecca Traister on the Bee situation. I don't think she should have said it, for a variety of reasons, but I'm hoping TBS doesn't fire her. I am remembering a complete lack of uproar on the right when a Fox host made a blowjob joke about Ivanka, so the uproar on Twitter seems misplaced.

I also thought this piece laid out the reasons why, although I dislike the word, I wasn't mad about it's use in this instance. An excerpt:

We've flown with our under two daughter twice round trip and have been required to provide her birth certificate each time (so 4 times). I can't speak to why she wasn't asked before but it is federal policy for a child that age to need a birth certificate to board a plane. Depends on who you are flying, how strict they enforce these rules... international I believe it’s definitely required. (I could be wrong) We were never asked for anything for DS when we went to Hawaii. Yes, we are a mixed race family, I’m half black, darker than my son who has light eyes and blonde hair. We flew United to Hawaii and Delta back and this was in September. We even got him a passport though not traveling internationally. I would have failed the FB “test” as we don’t post any photos of ds on social media. Her fiancé who is the baby’s dad was traveling with her and he has the same last name so why was the last name an issue? How many moms don’t have their husband’s last name even though their kids do? In this day and age, the only thing I could think of is race being the issue.

Ari Fleischer is out there saying "A congressional staffer was fired for making comments about the Obama girls. Why is it okay to attack Ivanka?" BECAUSE IVANKA IS 36 AND WORKS AT THE WHITE HOUSE. SHE'S NOT AN ACTUAL. FUCKING. CHILD. ?!?!?!??!?!?!!!!! My head is exploding. As if a 13-year-old black girl whose dad is the president through no fault of her own is in any way comparable to a grown ass white woman who chooses to continue working in the White House with her racist shitbag of a father so she can make more money. I hate everyone. Also, we just watched the episode in question and the word was bleeped out. Granted you could tell what word she was using but all this kerfuffle over a bleeped word. Ugh.

Pod save America has mentioned before, and then broke it down in today’s episode, how scary the CA primaries could be. Instead of choking the top candidate from each party, it’s the top two candidates, which means in some races, it could be two of the same party. This is particularly scary for races littered with D choices where the votes may be split. This could mean that if too many Ds vote for too many options, two Rs could end up on the Nov ballot. When I opened my ballot, I was overwhelmed with how many choices there were. Governor was 1 whole page and several of the Congress races have a lot of choices.
I legit worried. And I’m pissed they expanded on it in today’s episode the same day I turned my ballot in. 😕

First of all, he was a congressional staffer, not a late night tv host. Yes he should be fired! Ivanka chooses to be in that building, she’s an employee... not a minor, has the ear of 45 and does nothing with it! She “likes” liberal celebrity stuff on twitter but does nothing to get those things done.

Did you all see Sally Field's tweet? Sally Field sally_field I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a cunt. Cunts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest. And as my friend of Facebook quipped - "she lacks the depth and the warmth". 🤣

Yeah, but you flew international and have a passport for her, which you have to show at several points, right? That is an official form of ID. Most kids flying domestically in the US don't have a passport or other official ID, so a birth certificate is the only option. I always have to show the girls' passports several times and sometimes the checks are stricter than others (at the gate sometimes they'll take the passports and say "Ok, now who's XX?" Or just say the names to make sure they respond. ) and if you're flying internationally without your spouse, it's always a good idea to have a signed letter from them saying they know about the trip and are okay with it. I know several people who have had to show one. Idk, I can't get up in arms about policies in place to reduce chlid abductions and am tentatuvely on the side of the airline with thd details released so far, but obviously the policies should be implemented consistently. Lap children almost always require a birth certificate to prove identity and age, and Southwest is really strict on their policy. I’ve flown with 2 kids under two and every time on SW they required it. Only once with another airline did they not. I think if you had a seat for the under 2 yo, you might not need to prove it though. My 2 yo now doesn’t need identification, even with SW. I legitimately had never heard this policy. I also never flew Southwest, but wasn't required for me on Delta, United or any foreign airlines I've flown. Crazt I've had such different experiences. And I always did lap babies for under 2.

crimsonandclover there were domestic US flights in there too. One of my posts clarified, but there have been many, heh. Also I'm not against any such policy- I was just pointing out that never once have I been asked for a birth certificate or proof of parentage of my kids, and we don't have the same last name. Given allthe info including that the father was with them, and experiences like mine where nobody has ever questioned my white kids being my white kids, I def think there is a racially charged aspect to this story.

I'm surprised more people aren't upset that Samantha Bee suggests Ivanka gets her dad to do what she wants by wearing a low cut top. I guess it's easier to get fired up about the use of a four letter word.
I am sad at how this and the Roseanne news have dominated this week. The outrage should be on those that failed to help Puerto Rico and continue to hide the truth about the deaths there.

Before it was edited and complained about the Google search results found when you search for California Republican Party the views ideologies include "Nazism". I think social media is going to continue to be weaponized and I don't know how we stop the polarization when there are two sides of the country who can't even agree on the facts in the conversation.

Here's my thing with Samantha Bee - I am not a fan of the four letter C word, but that's not even my issue. She had an opportunity I think to do better with her criticism, because she had a very good point - Ivanka is SO completely out of touch, and tries to position herself as this champion for mothers and kids. She is a fraud, she is a hypocrite, and she's just generally full of shit. There are so many other ways to point that out. I can think of better words to call her than a cunt, that aren't as brash, and hit the mark, and are deserved.
Anyway, it is also rich to me that Trump says she should be fired, when he ran the most sexist campaign I have ever seen, is on tape saying he likes to grab women by their pussies, and invited Ted Nugent of all people, who called Hillary the same exact word, to the fucking WH.
God this all sucks SO MUCH and there are so many other important things going on.

My fear in these situations is that some people go ride or die for a specific candidate and aren't willing to look at the broader picture.

We are waiting to vote so we can make a last minute change in this clusterfluck of a primary. Unless some major polling changes happen, seems like we all need to support Villaraigosa though, right? (PSA is on deck as soon as morning conference calls are done, so I might be wrong).

He routinely insults political opponents (and sometimes allies). He is on record saying disgusting things about numerous women, including several since he began his presidential run in 2015. The fact that ANYONE is getting up at arms over Samantha Bee and not the host of insulting things Trump has said FROM THE OVAL OFFICE is infuriating. Oh man I missed when he called Sally Yates that? When did that happen???

Was this added by the GOP themselves or by trolls?? I'm confused. Tile data is scraped from a number of locations including Wikipedia, Brittanica, and CAGOP itself. It is unclear where it came from.
