I know that there are a lot of kiddos here turning 1 soon, or have recently or not so recently. What are your plans for breast/bottle feeding/weaning going forward? I know that you should offer solids before milk after one, but will you continue to offer as you have been or let them take the lead and ask for it? Will you be switching to cow's milk or similar? What about at daycare? Tell me what you're doing so I can come up with a plan!

I started mixing cow's milk in with formula around a month ago (stopped nursing at 6 months). I just reduce the amount of formula and up the amount of milk every week.
We'll use up what's left of this formula and then hopefully have the bottles totally gone by 13-14 months.

N turns 1 on Thursday. I plan on continuing to BF on demand for however long she wants it. Since I SAHM I don't really pump, but when I'm gone from her for 1-4 hours at a time she just gets water and solids. If I was working I think I would keep pumping at work, but start to decrease those because pumping sucks. I think I'm going to try offering her some peamilk at dinner time sometime this week and see how she likes it. I'm not totally against cow's milk, but since none of us drink it I'd rather not buy it unless I have to. It has more calcium and just as much vitamin D and protein as Cow's milk.

@icedtea, babystandish, what does "on demand" mean to you? I think Kellymom says "not offering unless asked" is a weaning technique so I'm wondering if that is the same as "on demand" or not. |

Ds1 was formula fed 6 months to a year, we switched to sippy cups of milk the day after his 1 year appointment. He was eating 3 meals a day of food by then so we just gave him milk with each meal. And whenever he fussed, we gave a snack and milk.
Eta we switched without any weaning.

I think 10-20 oz per day. It’s hit or miss. Usually, DS1 gets a 9 oz sippy in the morning and again around dinner. DS2 takes a 4oz one during the day at school and a 9 oz at night. It varies though |

I didn't really start cutting back on nursing (not offering, delaying sessions etc) until about 20 months when I decided I was feeling done with it and she wasn't asking for it as often. I totally weaned her at 22 months.
Baby #2 is due in October, and I plan to hopefully do the same: breatfeed/pump until a year and then continue BF at home until I/we decide I'm ready to wean.

DD is 14 months, and we're still nursing somewhat on demand. We have a pretty consistent weekday schedule, and I tend to keep her to that in terms of number of sessions. So, for example, we nurse once we get home and once before bed. If she asks between those two, I'll offer a snack or move dinner earlier instead. But she rarely asks - it's really only 3 hours from getting home to bedtime, anyway.
Weekends are harder. I try to stick to the weekday schedule plus the 2 sessions when she would get BM in her sippy cup while I'm at work. Some days we do just those sessions, some days we do less, some days we do quite a bit more. If I feel like we just nursed, I will try to put her off if she asks. She's rarely distracted while nursing, so I feel okay saying no sometimes. I try not to o
I think this is how we cut back in terms of pumped milk:
10 months - 9am: 6 oz, 12pm: 4 oz, 3pm: 6 oz (breakfast and lunch offered)
11 months - 9am: 6 oz, 12pm: 4 oz, 3pm: 4 oz (breakfast, lunch, and snack offered)
12 months - 9am: 4 oz, 12pm: 4 oz, 3pm: 4 oz (breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks offered)
13 months - Same as 12 months
14 months - 9 am: 4 oz, 3pm: 4 oz (breakfast, lunch, and snack offered - more food at each)
I cut down from 4* pumping sessions to 2. I dropped my early morning session first (I was pumping while she nursed). Then I dropped my noon session - I moved my morning session from 9 to 10, and temporarily moved my afternoon session from 3 to 2. I'm now pumping at 10 and 3 consistently. I think this is sustainable for a while, but ask me again in a month or so. Some days I'm fine with pumping, some days it's such a hassle and I loathe it.
*Disclaimer: I don't remember when I added the 4th session, but at some point that was the only way to keep up with demand.

I’m late to the party! But definitely wean off the pump for your boobs’ sake... quitting pump cold turkey risks mastitis.
I cut 1 if 3 pumps at her birthday and plan to work off at least one, hopefully both, pumps over the next couple of weeks. I’m finding stopping pumping harder than ds1 because I had low supply with him so never got that full. This time I have a full supply and ouch after I dropped the one pump. I’m gonna have to go slow.
With ds1 he was half formula so we replaced that half with milk around 1 yr, whenever we ran out of the formula tub. I nursed until 2 yrs, first pretty much normal pace then around 18-20 mos down to morning/night, then just morning, then quit at 2 years because I was halfway pregnant and it hurt.
We’ve done two half and half bottles of cow and mama, one she took and one no. I’ll probably just replace 1 bottle a day either this week or next and go from there. Once the stash is gone (I have maybe 50 oz left) and I wean off the work pump it will be cow milk and nursing when we’re together, hopefully til 2 again but we’ll see what she wants to do.

I tried WCM in the sippy cup yesterday and he took a gulp but some of it came back out and he wouldn’t drink it again. The kid loves water. Today I put a tiny bit of WCM in the sippy with BM and he took a sip or two but then went back to asking for water. I think I’m gonna have to try mixing WCM into his bottle instead.

irish14 it’s good to see you! I will wean off the pump but after 3 days of nursing less by just one or two sessions I pumped like 2 oz total today between two sessions. My supply is shit. It is just barely hanging on.

I had told him a few months ago I was tired of pumping and wanted to do it less, and he took that as his cue to start asking me every day if I was cutting back. I know he was trying to be helpful but he wasn't. |

I kind of think DD is trying to wean off the breast. I’m having so many feels about it. I told myself I would breastfeed as long as she wanted to...but I’m not ready to stop. 😢 |
