I wear make up most days, but I rarely get grits. I was pretty sad about the no grit situation until the one gross story. I also do charcoal masks a couple of times a week and I wondered if that was why I don’t get them. sheilathetank, I have no clue what your Mother’s Day splurge budget would be, but I think you might like this. It’s under $30. You get two additional free masks the first time you subscribe, too. I have the Lux subscription and I love it. They’re good about finding fun and hard to get masks and I love getting a surprise box every month. For the gift subscription, you can do 1,3, 6, or 12 months, so it’s a one time cost and no real commitment. www.facetory.com/products/four-ever-fresh-3-months-subscription

Ok due to this thread and the “what do you do for yourself” thread on GD I bought a subscription for those sheet masks to try out. $20 for 7 masks (plus the 2 bonus) is a deal! And a good way to try out different products.

sheilathetank I am so glad you liked the freeset donkey milk masks from Target. Those are my favorite masks - I horde and protect my stash like Gollum and his precious 😅😂. On the grits thing...for me, I don't get many (if any) grits on days I don't wear makeup. Sometimes if I do a clay mask beforehand (on the no makeup days), I will get grits...but then I wonder if it's just residue leftover from the clay mask? On days where I wear makeup, or if I have not oil cleansed for a few days, I definitely get some grits out. So maybe since you don't wear makeup, there aren't as many to get out? Either way - I do think using AHA and BHA would give you more grits success, but I can't speak to personal experience on that one - since I don't use AHA or BHA while pregnant/breastfeeding (which has been my lyfe basically since summer 2014). Once I wean LO, I'm going to start using the cosrx BHA blackhead power cream and see if that gives me more grits. www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Blackhead-Power-Cream-Ounce/dp/B01E8RVI74thisbitch Added some of your mask recs to my list! Also, I don't want to be a debbie downer, but after learning about how birds nest products are causing near extinction of some birds here in Southeast Asia (and the dangerous methodology for harvesting the birds nests...which is sometimes done by underpaid/indentured workers who are not given the proper safety equipment), I don't buy products with birds nest ingredients. I just have read way too many sad stories, and it's not really possible for me to verify ethical (there ARE ethical outfits who responsibly produce the stuff) vs unethical sourcing from the various cosmetic brands...so I avoid it all together. There's just so much corruption in SEA, it's hard to know who is doing things properly and who isn't paying bribes to keep up their icky practices. Sorry to rain on anyone's parade. I will try to find some links and add later.

Taitai, thanks for the heads up about the bird’s nest products. I will use up what I have an avoid them in the future, since I am not dedicated enough to seek out ethically sourced ones and wouldn’t want to use the others. I appreciate you telling me.

I only buy vegan and cruelty-free products and I've been really pleased with how easy it's been to find good things. I've never heard of anything with bird's nests. The donkey milk and snail products sound really great but clearly I can't use those.

I wouldn't say South Korea (or Japan or Taiwan) are particularly problematic in terms of animal cruelty for beauty products...but I don't think they are as strict about regulating the sources of their stuff - like the EU is really strict about that kind of thing. In Asia (in general), the whole animal cruelty thing is just not as much of a priority or viewed as seriously as it is in the USA/EU. Plus, the fact that the birds nests come from Southeast Asia opens up the risk of corruption and bribes, because local governments/municipalities can be easily bought off by unethical product suppliers. So, a South Korean firm could theoretically have all the assurances and paperwork from their suppliers that they are harvesting the birdsnest in an ethical way, but...it's Southeast Asia and corruption is endemic...so it's pretty easy to just "buy" that paperwork. Hope that makes sense!

I didn't actually think it was really milk from a donkey. I thought all donkeys were males. Or is that a mule? Omg I'm laughing at someone trying to milk a donkey and then just rubbing it on their face.

I don't know the donkey/mule thing, but here is what I found about donkey milk from a French organic soap producer. Apparently it's the closest animal milk to human milk and very nutritious? All I know is I love those donkey milk freeset masks. 🤷♀️ "Cleopatra bathed every day in asses' milk, now remarkable results are being reported in people with eczema, acne and psoriasis who drink it or use natural soap made from it. Rich in lactose and low in fat, donkey milk is said by experts to be the closest animal milk to the human variety. The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation says it has “particular nutritional benefits”, with a protein profile that may make it more suitable for those allergic to cow’s milk. It is known to be gentle and soothing for those with sensitive skin, and has four to five times more vitamin C than cow’s milk and is rich in proteins. It gives the soap a wonderful creamy lather that leaves the skin soft and silky smooth." www.passion-savon.fr/en/content/19-ingredients-of-our-natural-donkey-milk-soap

But it works! I have definitely read about people using human breast milk, and I know that’s what my health care providers told me to use on my nipples when they were mangled from breastfeeding, and breast milk is also supposed to treat pink eye and ear infections.
I just bought them because I love a deal, but I’m a convert.

What is everyone doing to remove eye makeup? I was using a separate makeup remover but I got a sample of the double cleansing regimen from Amore Pacific (which is lovely, BTW), and it said to use the oil around the eyes. I guess it just never occurred to me to do that? thisbitch which cushion foundation have you liked best? I went to Sephora in search of Dr Jart but I guess it's only available on the website ATM. I bought a small Amore Pacific and I'm kind of meh on it. It's a little more dry than I expected it to be. Taitai I was using that CosRx blackhead remover but after going through the whole bottle and not seeing much difference I gave it up. It's entirely possible I wasn't maximizing the product though. I was just kind of slapping it on there after cleansing and I'm learning that there is a whole method to each step.

It's not drying, but not too dewy looking either. Really nice balance for me. ETA - for eye makeup, I just use the Banila Clear it Zero. If I have eyeliner to remove, then I will use Clinique take the day away liquid stuff on a cotton pad. I find it really effective.

Sorry, I missed the tag. I don’t have a cushion foundation because somehow I have like five foundations and I have put myself on a foundation buying moratorium until I use some of them up. I want a cushion foundation, and this is how I end up with so many. Someone tells me about something they like and I go try it because I am always convinced the next product is going to be THE ONE.
Anyway, good luck on your search, and if you find one you love, tell me!

Anyone have any luck with peel off masks that remove blackheads? I picked up a cheap one in the grocery store because i was there. I'm pretty sure it did nothing. I went at them myself and ended up somehow scraping some skin off the side of my nose.

sheilathetank, I used to use the Biore ones back in the day. Taitai said something somewhere about the black spots on one’s nose being sebaceous filaments instead of black heads. I have noticed a huge reduction (maybe 50%) since I started my whole k beauty thing. I don’t know what the cause is or what’s working, but it’s better than I can remember it being since puberty. They were obviously just discussing black heads but I was tuning out the conversation because I am product saturated at the moment. I did just get my Ettang masks that Taitai recommended, and I’m excited to try those. I think I mentioned this before, but I have two local friends who are into sheet masking too, and we have a “mask club.” One of us purchases a multi-pack of masks- they’re usually 5 or 10 in a pack, and the other two women reimburse her at the per mask price. It’s been a fun way to try new masks without the commitment of buying 10 and without paying retail for them.

thisbitch Excited you got the peeling masks! Lemme know once you try it. They make my skin soooooo soft. sheilathetank I used those pore strips back in the day, but I found they peeled off too much of my skin and didn't really work to reduce the sebaceous filaments on my nose. I've heard from dermatologists and skincare bloggers to avoid them, as they can actually make your pores bigger, which is not good. Too bad, because I love the idea of just ripping that gunk out!

Taitai, I'm a huge fan of the CosRX blackhead power liquid. I use it daily as a spot treatment on my nose, chin, and area of my cheeks where I have large pores. I apply the CosRX AHA whitehead power liquid on the rest of my face at the same time. I then wait at least 20 minutes to apply the rest of my nighttime routine. It has really reduced the appearance of my (super large) pores and reduced the number of blackheads/SF that I see. Daily use works best for me, but lots of people do it 2-3x/week. (I double cleanse first, then swipe my face all over with a ph adjusting toner on a cotten pad before applying my acids.)
