So, I ended up getting a free gift of a travel size kit of the Sulwhasoo essential line. I’ve been using the kit while in the USA for the past week (plus my usual Cosrx snail and t’iam vit c of course), and I really really like the Sulwhasoo stuff.
-First care activating serum - this is part of my normal routine, love. -Essential balancing water (aka hydrating toner) - the consistency is great, it hydrates very well -Concentrated ginseng renewal serum - I’ve previously tried samples of this before and I love it - gives me a nice glow. - Essential eye cream - This is really nice. No milia and does a good job of depuffing. I like the cool sensation I get when I put it on. -Essential balancing emulsion - Light, sinks in well, no clogging of pores, great scent.
I wish all this stuff wasn’t so expensive though! 😩. I have 2 sample kits, and I’ll be so sad when they run out in a few weeks.

It’s only okay for my skin (some items breaks me out), but the hanbang of it all is dreamy. Probably why I like the their mist so much. My wallet appreciates that the brand is not holy grail for me.

I picked up the Su:m37 Secret Essence and Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF 50/PA+++ from a recent Costco promo.
I have used the Sun Cream less than a handful of times so far. I'm undecided whether to return it as I am not crazy about the perfumey scent. I might consider keeping it if it was not fragranced. Being a cream, it doesn't seem to dry down as much as my daily Nivea Sun Protect Water Gel.
I'm not sure where to incorporate the Su:m37 essence amongst my evening routine: double cleanse, Hada Labo Gokujyun toner, alternating nights of AHA/bakuchiol/snail essence, and moisturizer. I'm open to suggestions.

there are a few prime day deals on k beauty stuff- skinfood, secret key, mizon, thefaceshop, tony moly, banila.. if you search k beauty in prime day deals most of them come up. also it's not a prime day deal but the big jar of banila clean it zero is $20.
there are also deals on supergoop, bioderma, and la roche posay.
i've restrained myself and just bought the clean it zero.

Also - not sure what your AHA is like, but I would recommend doing that immediately after your double cleanse, not after the Hado Labo. The HL is- hydrating toner, so it should be used after actives/acids/first treatment essences. When in doubt, go thinnest to thickest 👍

Taitai, I am using the Good Genes lactic acid, so definitely thicker than the HL.

I'm jumping in to the AB thing. I picked up a few sheet masks today, and have several items in my Amazon cart also. My skin issues are uneven skin tone (redness mostly) and large pores. My current skin care is basically rinse off at the end of the night (I don't wear makeup) and splash with witch hazel. If my skin feels dry, I'll use rosehip seed oil. That's it. I turned 30 this year and need to do better. So I'm here 🤷🏻♀️ I'm using an Innisfree My Squeeze aloe mask right now and it feels so good. Also bought some holika holika Pearl essence masks. Anyone try those before? I really want that Banila Clean it Zero balm. I've tried that style of cleanser before and loved it. Also in my cart: Skinfood black sugar mask, Mizon AIO snail repair cream, some Soo Ae donkey milk masks, and Krave beet the sun sunscreen. Taitai is the Mizon or COSRX snail stuff better?

mommabakes Yay! So happy to see you in here. I think all of your initial picks are great. One thing I would recommend adding is a second water-soluble, low-ph cleanser (like CeraVe gentle foaming wash or Cosrx good morning low ph wash), just because some people find that using an oil-based cleanser/balm (like the banila you picked out) can cause clogs/breakouts if you don’t follow up with a second, water-sol cleanser to totally remove the oil residue from the first cleanse. In terms of the snail stuff - I absolutely cannot do without the Cosrx snail 96 power serum. It keeps my skin balanced, and I use it morning and night. The Mizon AIO serves more as a night cream/finishing touch for me, which I also really love. But if forced to choose, it would be the Cosrx 96 each time. Glad to hear you are enjoying sheet masking too! When you want to try out something else, give the Japanese heated eye masks a whirl. ETA - lemme know how you like that suncream! I’ve heard of it and am curious!

I’m back in Southeast Asia after a 5+ week trip to the USA, and I’m so happy to get back into my normal AB routine. We were so busy and all over the place while in the states, that a lot of my routine went by the wayside. No sheet masking, I ran out of Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum, I wasn’t consistent about Vit C useage, and I didn’t have an oil cleanser.
I definitely noticed my skin get more dull and uneven, and not doing the Vit C consistently brought back some melasma spots on my cheek bones ☹️. I’m working on getting back to where I was, and I realized the Sulwhasoo First cafe activating serum really makes a difference in the liveliness of my skin. It’s hard to describe, but now that I’m using it again, it’s almost like my skin looks more fresh and vibrant.
I also picked up those lululun sheet masks - the Japanese ones that come in 32 masks/single package. I am very happy to be reducing my waste from single packages sheet masks, and I like these lululun ones enough. They aren’t amazing like my Naruko or My Beauty Diary ones, but they’re good for the environment, and I feel less guilty about masking every night 👍

My bff is visiting and asking me for skincare help but I’m way out of my league. I’m a cleanse, tone, moisture girl, I haven’t gotten into all the serums, etc.
Her melasma is out of control. She is very pale and of Irish heritage. She has spent most of the last 12 years in Africa and the South Pacific, plus we grew up on a lake....so that’s a lot of sun. She IS diligent about sunscreen and always has been. I haven’t seen her in a year and was shocked at how much her skin has changed.
What direction do I point her in? Vitamin C? Retinol?

She IS diligent about sunscreen and always has been. I haven’t seen her in a year and was shocked at how much her skin has changed. What direction do I point her in? Vitamin C? Retinol? Vit C will definitely help with her melasma/sun spots, as can hydroquinone. The most effective products for Vit C would be ones with 20% L-AA (a form of Vit C). The thing with L-AA, is that it’s not as stable and oxidizes quickly. So if you want the product to last longer, you should make sure it is kept in the fridge and not exposed to sunlight (I wrap tin foil around mine). For hydroquinone, it should only be used as a spot treatment, and not in concentration of more than 2% (unless prescribed by a doctor). Hydroquinone is also sensitive to sunlight, so it should be kept in an opaque container. I use T’iam C20 for my L-AA for my melasma (I just have a little on my cheek bones) and just started also using Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum, which is a 2% hydroquinone product. So far, it’s too early to tell whether the Murad is working, but the T’iam definitely works. I’ve been using it for years to take away the melasma. I stopped using it for like 1 month this summer, and sure enough, the melasma started creeping back. Good luck to your friend! ETA - what sunscreen does she use? Chemical or physical? The reason I ask, is that maybe she might want to try one of the Japanese chemical ones, if her skin is changing so much due to sun exposure. I find the Japanese ones are really good at letting nothing in - I find them much, much more effective than western sunscreens. Just my experience. 🤷♀️

Thanks Taitai! I’ll pass on your advice. She said she uses Neutrogena sunscreen. I’m not a fan of Neutrogena. Maybe it has gotten better since I used it last, but I always found to too heavy/greasy/white cast inducing for my face. You should tell your friend to check out Biore UV aqua rich or A’pieu sunblock (both the gel and the cream are good).

Skincare milestone for me today - I just tried retinol on my face for the first time ever. I got a deluxe sample of this Murad retinol youth renewal serum. Since I already use 20% L-AA and 2% salicylic acid as my BHA, I’m going to go slow on the retinol. I just put a tiny bit on my face tonight, and I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m only going to use it twice this week, and if that doesn’t cause problems, I will try to steadily increase to daily use. Fingers crossed my skin can take it!
I also think daily sheet masking with the lululun masks I have will probably help counteract the drying effects of retinol. We’ll see!

I’m so excited! Lurking this thread and the Royals thread have prompted my first k-beauty purchases. I got the Kose Softymo cleansing oil, Cosrx snail mucin and a package of Tosowoong sheet masks (I’ve been using sheet masks for about a month and I’m obsessed).
One question- would Cetaphil qualify as a low-ph cleanser to follow the oil with for double cleansing?

How's the retinol going Taitai? I missed this tag! Sorry for the delayed response. The retinol is going well! I haven’t had any peeling or redness at all. I have not seen a ton of fine line reduction yet, or anything really substantive, but it’s only been a few weeks. I think I need to give it some more time. I am up to using it 3-4 times a week, and I think I will keep it there. I don’t want to end up ruining what I have going on, ynwim?

I think you can use the Cetaphil as your low-ph cleanser - the ph is 6.3 - 6.8, and many will say as long as it’s under 7, you’re good. I do know that some prefer a ph of 4 or even 3/4, but I don’t think it’s necessary. My low ph cleanser right now is Sulwhasoo, which is around a 7, and it’s not drying or stripping my moisture barrier at all. www.google.com/amp/s/www.futurederm.com/why-do-dermatologists-like-cetaphil/%3Famp

It looks like Sephora is now carrying the Innisfree products.
There is a mall near me where an Innisfree store opened up this summer. I stopped by to check things out. They had testers but a lot of the product was out of stock. I gave the green tea seed serum a try. I was not expecting the aroma. Are all Innisfree products scented?

I just looked up the K-beauty routine, I was doing most of it on my own except for the double cleansing. If I can remember to clean my face every night, it's a miracle. I'm adding it to my habit tracker this week to see if I can do it more regularly. I don't wear a ton of makeup, so a quick toner and night cream is basically all I do now.
