I went to a fancy spa in the city and got a facial and she said I had nice skin, a bit sensitive but to keep up with what I’m doing. I also had a coworker compliment me too and then we talked about snail cream. It was nice to hear that because I usually fixate in the issues I have and it puts it into perspective. And also because at work we had major issues last week with heating and cooling due to the polar vortex and I was working in the area where the heat was cranked to summer temps and my face looked all dried out and my makeup looked terrible.
I’ve been sticking with my same old products but been super consistent and added in a non AB oil. Next up is some snail for my night cream, not sure which one to get but I’m going to have to decide soon since I’m running out of my current stuff.

Yessss...try the snail! I’ve lured you to the dark side. Mizon and Cosrx are famous for their snail products, so if you are debating which brand to use, I’d highly recommend one of theirs. Let us know what you think once you try it!

So I’ve been using the Paula’s Choice Vit C for about a week and I love it. I have seen a huge reduction it some acne scarring that I never saw with the Drunk Elephant C Firma and the PC one smells so much better. But on a down note I don’t think I can use oils cleanser. I’d been using a Caudalie one which is sweet almond and grape seed oil (definitely no mineral oil) and after 3 weeks I started getting really bad acne on my cheeks again like when I was using the Kose oil. I stopped using it and my skin cleared up completely. So I think I’m going to have to stick with micellar water from now on My skin doesn't seem to like the Kose either. I have had really good results with Banilla Co. Clean it Zero (original version) and Memebox I'm cleansing oil #2. www.amazon.com/BANILA-CO-Cleansing-Original-Parabens/dp/B07BSV1T35/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1549578457&sr=8-3&keywords=banilla%2Bco%2Bclean%2Bit%2Bzero%2Bbalm&th=1Fanserviced-b has a comprehensive review and she has dealt a lot with acne, so generally her recs have been good for me too. My acne is mostly under control, but I do have to avoid heavier things that will clog my pores. www.fanserviced-b.com/a-review-of-15-first-step-korean-oil-and-other-cleansers/

cagoldi thank you! I’m always open to makeup suggestions, I do feel like I’ve tried it all at this point though. I do wear full makeup 5-6 days/week. Currently using a Nars foundation with a benefit mattefying primer and tarte pore smoothing primer on my nose maybe about 50% of the time. Morphe setting spray. I just got done with a MAC CC cream and Estee Lauder Double Wear with a silicone based primer. With my current set up and prior, I feel like everything breaks up? I have the hardest time describing it. I’m assuming at this point that I need to give my makeup a better foundation. I enjoy makeup and like to wear it. But I’ll go without on the weekends if we aren’t doing anything special. I agree with the lighter foundations. I’ve been trying to keep it lighter, less matte and think it offers some improvement. I’m also realistic, and ok with the fact that it won’t look perfect at 4 in the afternoon when I leave work since I get ready at 4:30 in the morning! I really do think I could stand to improve the texture if possible. I have large pores and a moisture barrier that gets oily if I don't keep it balanced. I am also closer to 40 than I want to say out loud, but enjoy makeup and have found a good balance with the links below: Primer: www.amazon.com/Aritaum-Master-Sebum-Control-Primer/dp/B00X3PQ6IY/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1549579587&sr=8-8&keywords=pore+primerBB cream (but more foundation like with buildable coverage. I actually wear #27, but assumed you were lighter than me) www.amazon.com/Perfect-Cover-Cream-SPF42-No-25/dp/B07G9NXTXN/ref=sr_1_8_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1549579680&sr=1-8&keywords=missha+bb+creamPowder: (hands down my favorite powder for setting foundation without getting cakey or gathering into fine lines/pores) us.innisfree.com/fine-finish-pressed-powder-%28refill%29/10026.html?cgid=mk-powder#start=5

emma, the COSRX good morning cleanser, banila clean it zero, and COSRX advanced snail 96 should arrive today. Jackaroe, what is the manyo product you are using? Do you use that instead of vitamin C? Does the niacin in it make you flush at all? I know when taken orally it can do that. I came across manyo in my amazon hunt, but was hesitant to order because of the limited (compared to like the COSRX) reviews. I love the packaging aesthetic.

Ugh. Got my amazon order. Looks like I’m one of the lucky ones who got the unsealed Banila product others were commenting on in the reviews. The box was completely opened/safety sticker cut, then the cap was on crooked, and to top it off, the foil was inside the cap and not covering the product. Super bummed.

Oh no about the Banila! Definitely return it and report it to Amazon. Honestly, I’ve been skeptical of some things on Amazon lately. It’s like there is no quality control, and for skincare items, people have been complaining about fakes more and more. I tend to first try Jolse, Wishtrend, Target, or directly from the brand itself (like Naruko) for my stuff - but the shipping/delivery with the Korean sellers can take much longer than amazon, so you have to plan ahead.

Guuuuuuys, does anyone follow Renee from Gothamista? I’ve watched a handful of her videos but nothing in quite some time. I was watching her updated evening routine and saw she had a video for her skin care recs UNDER 10 DOLLARS! (Disclaimer, she’s in NYC so I assume it’s US only in terms of the pricing.) I just watched it at lunch and can’t wait to watch the second part! She talks about 1st and 2nd cleansers and toners and serums. A few stand outs, there are a lot more low PH drugstore 2nd cleanser options now! I am so excited! Also, Elf apparently makes some legit products?? I’ll go back through and add some links to items that seem very interesting, but I was so excited I wanted to share this video! I love Renee - her recommendations are normally pretty good for me. I am going to watch this - thanks!

I’ve ordered from yesstyle.com three times and have been happy with them. I think free shipping is $35 and I’ve gotten everything within two weeks. So longer than I’m use to but not totally awful. Free samples too! Which is always fun.

Has anyone had any experience with The Yeon? There are some products on HauteLook right now that I’m tempted to throw into my order. I wasn’t able to find much info online.

Also, if anyone is interested in a new podcast, check out Beauty Beyond Basics, AKA the triple B’s. It’s hosted by Kerry from Skin and Tonics (I love her!!) Sheryl from the Wanderlust project, Coco Park from the Beauty Wolf and Tiffany of TiffanyandLupus. There have only been 6 episodes so far and they talk skincare, makeup, haircare, etc. also, 3 of the 4 women are persons of color and you get much broader (and better) perspectives. Oh, fun! Thanks for the rec!

Hi everyone! I’ve been using a few new products lately and just wanted to share my thoughts. My biggest skincare goals this year are adding acids, vitamin C and then a stronger anti aging routine as I get used to it. I just posted in GD, but I’ve been using the glow recipe watermelon sleeping mask consistently for about 6 weeks. In general, I like the product. It smells nice and I do think I’m starting to see some results in terms of brightening and potentially softening the 11’s on my face. Things I don’t like: the cost. $45 feels a bit steep to me. Also, the product tends to pill up pretty easily. The first few times I used it I thought my skin was literally peeling off from the acid. It looked like when Elmer’s glue dries on your hand and you peel it off. Yuck! Then as I was researching more information on the product I read in multiple places about the pilling. Haha. My other complaint is I don’t know what % the acid is. Like on a scale of 1 to Drunk Elephant babyfacial, where does this fall? I’d like to slowly increase the acid % and this info would be helpful. Oh well...In terms of similar products, I’ve seen the Bliss what a melon overnight mask mentioned and also just using a low % acid toner (pixi glow tonic, etc.) I’m going to do a little more research. I’ve also been using the Cosrx BHA power liquid. I’ve been using it 3 times a week (building up to daily on my problem areas only) and so far so good. I would say my hormonal acne was a little better this month. I got an Ulta gift card for Christmas and I just placed an order for the Peach and Lily resurfacing mask. It’s similar to the babyfacial from DE in that you put it on for X minutes and then wash it off. The acid % is lower (10% versus 20%) and I think that’s probably good for me to start. I will keep you guys posted on how it goes! In non acid products, I’ve been using the Hado Labo premium lotion (thick toner almost serum like) for a month and my skin LOVES it. I know this toner is hit or miss for a lot of people but it really works for me! Interesting about the effect the glow recipe watermelon sleeping mask is having on you! I looked at the ingredient list, and the AHA in that mask is glycolic acid and lactic acid. They are ingredients #10 and #11 on the list, which is pretty far down and makes me think the concentrations of them are not very strong. If it’s causing peeling skin though - maybe reduce the frequency of use? Exciting that you are using the BHA too! I am really happy o added the Paula’s Choice BHA to my routine!

I have quite a few products in my skin care collection now and I feel okay about it and my skin but my biggest issue I think is sebaceous filaments. They almost look like black heads but I don’t think they are. Any favorite products for this issue that have actually made a difference?

Of course it’s fine to jump right in. 😊 On the lip stain, I’m no help there. For the SF - have you tried using BHA on your nose and oil cleansing/double cleansing? I find that helps keep my SF clean and minimizes the appearance of them. Also, some people like to use the charcoal pore strips, but just be careful! They can irritate and damage your skin, especially if you use them too much. Finally, nothing beats good extractions from a professional doing a facial. I know it’s $$ though...and I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a facial...years! 😩

Taitai, it’s not peeling my skin, it’s the product pilling! I’m just a dummy and thought it was skin. 😂 I was trying to share my silly story, sorry it wasn’t clear! 😉 I agree, the acids are very low on the list so it can’t be very strong. It’s not irritating at all, so overall I really like it. I’ve just learned to pat it in quickly or I get Elmer’s glue face! I just wish it wasn’t so pricey for what it is. Oh! That makes more sense! Reading fail on my part. I thought maybe it was pilling AND making your skin peel off like Elmer’s glue, and I was just like... I have heard people love that glow recipe watermelon mask, but I can’t bring myself to spend that much on it! Especially since I live in such a hot/humid climate and only use sleeping packs like twice a week, if that.

I did my first sheet mask that didn’t have a mouth opening. I think I knew that but had forgotten until I opened it. It was weird and soooo creepy looking. However, my lips were very plump afterwards. It was the RoseGold24 mask by 23 years old. While it was nice, the rose smell was a too old lady like and overwhelming for me to purchase again. I think it came in my Facetory box a couple months ago.

I really want to get a facial with extractions! Someday I'll be facialrich.

I finished my DE CFirma and replaced it with the Cosrx Triple Lightning vitamin C serum. It's a bit stronger at 20.5% L-AA VS 15%. However, it's not playing nicely with my Nivea sun protect water gel sunscreen. Pilling galore.

I think emma started a new vitamin C. Maybe Paula’s Choice? Maybe that works better? Yes I got Paula’s Choice and like it very much.
