@karenwalker I’ve never tried Purito, but with that price and a good review from Fiddy, I’d definitely try it out! emma No recs for a retinol serum. I’ve been pregnant or breastfeeding the past 4 years, so I’ve stayed away. I definitely want to add retinoids in to my routine at some point though, so if you find a good one, lemme know!

Taitai I’ve used Sunday Reilly Luna oil before which was good but very $$$. I was hoping for something cheaper, The Ordinary gets mixed reviews but for the price it might be worth trying

I’m really loving the softymo oil cleanser. For the first time ever I’m not seeing any makeup on my towel when I dry my face after washing it. I still haven’t pulled the trigger on this yet! I think the things holding me back is the mineral oil. I’ve heard in the past that it’s terrible for skin (acne-wise), but now there seems to be mixed reviews. You’re making me think I should just do it!

@karenwalker sakura I was also terrified of using mineral oil, but so far, so good for me! I find that getting one which emulsified well is key, as you can get it off your skin better. Plus, I take my time with the follow-up water soluble cleanser, just to make sure I get rid of all the oil residue. Also - if you don’t want to go the mineral oil route, I have heard that jojoba oil is good, because it doesn’t clog pores. That Skinfood black sugar cleansing oil that I love (which is now not in stock anywhere...grrrrr...) didn’t use mineral oil and was jojoba oil based. If you find it in stock, I’d definitely recommend picking it up! www.ulta.com/black-sugar-perfect-cleansing-oil?productId=xlsImpprod14431221

Maybe I’ll put it on my wish list from Christmas - once DS2 is hopefully weaned. I tend to like the Ordinary, so I think I’ll give that a whirl if the Sunday Riley doesn’t happen.

You know - I’ve been meaning to figure out what that stuff is. It doesn’t seem to be an oil cleanser, but kind of like a micellar water kind of product? It says you use it with cotton pads, and the bottle is huge (300ml). I might try it out, just because I loooooved the perfect oil cleanser. Maybe this serum thing is just as good?

I thought that was the same. 😂 they also have a cleansing cream? I’m going to do a little research and see what I can figure out. I’m trying to get away from cotton pads. I’m still using the miceller water but I think something is irritating my face. Either the cotton or the water. Not sure which. No worries - the bottle looks basically the same! I almost accidentally bought the cleansing serum a year ago from Ulta. I’m with you on the cotton pads. I find they are too abrasive for my face - even if I’m really gentle with them. 🤷♀️

Like Taitai I’ve been pregnant/nursing for a few years so I havent tried anything yet. But I’ve been googling it and the Ordinary keeps popping up under best retinol serums. And for the price, I’d definitely try it! I use a lot of products from them and have been very pleased with everything so far. If you do decide to try the EGCG eye serum and Buffet, I don't recommend using those in the morning if you plan to apply makeup because they will pill.

I definitely wouldn't be using it as a moisturizer or treatment oil

I was checking out Beauty Tap since a few of you ladies were talking about it, and I came across an oil cleanser that contains zero acne/irritants according to cosdna, so I ordered it from amazon. It’s called Mamonde petal spa cleansing oil. But it won’t be here until 9/18 and I’m not sure my Banila will last that long 😬

I’ve heard good things about the Mamonde brand in general. Hope it works out!

I’ve never got grits and I’m kind of salty about it I don’t get a ton out regularly...and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten any from my nose, which is the area with SF that I hate the most. I’ve heard not everyone gets them, and it’s kind of a YMMV thing. Maybe it’s also because your pores aren’t as clogged, so it could be a good thing?

I didnt get any last night. So I take that as a good sign. Fifty snails gets grits all the time, and her face isn’t gross! I think maybe some people’s skin responds better to it - doesn’t mean gross! I got a grit from the bridge of my nose last night and was like, yassssssss!

Is there a good spot to start when new to the whole Korean skincare thing? I feel like I need a 101 while I’ve been going through these posts haha.

Welcome to your new obsession allisong ! @karenwalker already gave you some great advice. If you are just starting, I recommend you read below articles from Fifty Shades of Snail and Snow White and the Asian Pear: fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2018/06/03/5-step-k-beauty-skincare-routine/www.snowwhiteandtheasianpear.com/2015/01/skincare-discovery-putting-your.html?m=1Both of above articles are like an Asian Beauty 101/overview. The Snow White one does a good job of explaining routine order and concepts like double cleansing and actives (treatment products that rely on acids or retinoids to improve your skin). You’re new to this, so try not to get too worried about doing everything all at once. Start slow with a few products and try not to use a million new things at once. If you have a negative reaction to something, it’s nearly impossible to tell which product is the culprit if you started a bunch of new ones all at the same time. We’re here to answer questions and help! The Asian Beauty subreddit is another great resource to check out. Welcome again!

Lots of questions, sorry. Does anyone use that Wish app to buy any skincare items? I live in Southeast Asia, so I’ve never used the Wish app, but I’ve heard it’s popular. I’ve ordered from Jolse before, and I like that their stuff is priced well and ships straight from Korea. Rose rose shop is another good option with decent prices. There’s always amazon too - I’ve gotten all my Cosrx and tons of sheet masks from them. Finally- check out the AB section of your Target. When I was last back in the states, I was shocked by how many differs brands and options they had! I enjoy the my beauty diary sheet masks and some of the Mizon products (all in one snail repair cream) that Target carries. Target also carries some stuff from Whamisa, make p:rem, LJH (have heard awesome things about the vita propolis serum ampoules), missha (time revolution night treatment is popular), and others. Target even has a little “create your own routine” online guide, which I think is neat: www.target.com/c/korean-beauty/-/N-aj060

Taitai I pulled the trigger and ordered The Ordinary. I ordered The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + Hyaluronic Acid 2% I’ll let you know my thoughts when they get here. Annoyingly I just discovered a store down the street from my office that stocks it. I guess good for the future

I’ve read that actives should not be combined, because they could interact with each other in ways that negate their effectiveness. There’s a ph/preservatives issue for lots of them too. So, I tend to follow the 10-20 min wait time. That said, if I’m in a rush, I don’t wait that long (like only 2 min sometimes between my L-AA and a BHA salicylic acid spot treatment). I figure in those situations, putting it on is at least better than nothing at all 🤷♀️

gldnbearz, the Neutrogena hydroboost is on sale as Costco! 2 for 19.99. I ended up getting it. I’m still using it on my eyes/neck. Thanks for the heads up. Is it the fragrance free, gel cream for extra dry skin or the scented, water gel version?
