Ok ladies, here we go... I couldn't come up with a better title. Depending on how long this gets I can restart it every week.

Ok so I was really horrified when I got on the scale yesterday at the doctor. I have struggled with my weight my whole life and have had the most health/fitness success when I follow a lower carb eating plan and exercise. I have gone back to working out with a PT 1x per week and am trying to walk on the treadmill at least 2 other days. We have a gym in our office building that I really love so working out is totally doable, I just need to commit to it.
How is everyone else doing with food and/or activity?

I started this pregnancy at least 20 lbs heavier than any of my previous pregnancies. It's frightening to me. I am 22 weeks along and still getting around surprisingly well (I was expecting more SPD and sciatic nerve pain by this point). So part of me thinks I should take advantage of feeling good and take walks after work before picking up the kids. The other part of my is afraid if I start walking, I'll just aggravate my joints and ligaments and cause discomfort.
I need to stop being a baby and just get out there! If my pelvis gives out, I'll start wearing a support belt or see the chiro more or cut back on exercising at that point. No more excuses!
Monday I start. I will bring good supportive shoes and a change of clothes so I can walk a couple miles before picking up the kids. While I probably won't lose/maintain weight doing this because I'll just eat more, I need to be active. I sit at a desk all day and it's not good.
Food wise I'm also making changes. No more mindless snacking on candy. I've brought in more GD friendly snacks this week that I ate during previous pregnancies. Just because I don't have GD this time (yet anyway), doesn't mean I should consume all the candy and sweets. As mentioned in the other thread, the big change this week is eliminating cream and sugar from my coffee at work. Next step is backing off the Easter candy consumption at home.

I lost weight in the 1st trimester, stayed even in the 2nd and then gained 5lbs in the first week of the 3rd trimester! This week I have not gained or lost but I also started following the GD guidelines for limiting carbs, so that has probably helped.
For those of you who do not have GD, but might want to follow the diet to help with weight gain, here is the general gist of it.
Approx. 150g carbs per day. Eat 30-45 per meal (30 for breakfast, 45 each lunch and dinner), 15 each for snacks. I personally can’t eat 45 at once and still get a good reading, so I eat closer to 30g 5x per day. Depending on your age/genetics/test results, a dietitition may give you slightly different goals.
Tips: 1. Don’t cut out too many carbs - it’s as important to eat regular amounts as it is to limit those amounts and sources. 2. Try to eat every 2-3hrs. 3. Never skip your evening snack; low carb ice cream and other dairy (or almond milk) seem to help keep the fasting number lowest overnight. 4. Always pair protein with your carbs to help keep levels constant. 5. High fat foods and caffeine seem to have a negative impact on blood sugar - I don’t know exactly why. Having a couple slices of bacon is fine, but don’t go nuts! Space out your caffeine so that it is not all at once/only during meals/ high carb consumption. 6. Whole foods work much better than processed. Ex: I can eat apples and berries, but can’t eat applesauce or drink fruit juice. Brown rice and whole grains are better than white rice or bread. 7. Moving after eating helps get your blood sugar back in range. You don’t have to do hard exercise, you can simply stand up and shift your weight between feet for 5 minutes (this was my big takeaway from diabetes education, lol). That small activity makes a difference!
To me, it is easier to limit carbs than count calories. Hope that helps if anyone else is interested.

tarheelmom, thanks for the outline of the GD diet. I was thinking of trying to focus on whole foods and limited grains. This gives me some ideas of what to target.

I started out this pregnancy 15 lbs heavier than my last, so I've been counting macros most of the time. Been slacking this last 3 weeks though. I was eating keto before I got pregnant (high protein version, not the high fat), and I love how I feel on limited carbs, but I didn't want to restrict my veggies and fruit that much while pregnant, so I've been leaning toward paleo, with the occasional purple potato and rice. But all I want is white bread and PBJ and croissants. Going to double down and do it though, especially since I failed my 1hr. I cook most every meal, so we do get a lot of whole foods, but I've been snacking way too much on junk recently and I feel it. I also need to get back into the gym and do something. I feel like a blob.

Food is not good. I took my 3 hour GTT test Monday and am basically expecting to fail since I had GD with DD so that will kick my butt in to gear food wise. I also need to exercise. I have a Peloton and have been riding about once a week but should aim for more of that or some walking.

I'm doing ok with food. Not great but not terrible. I need to get back on track with more fruits and veggies. I also need to make plans for what I will be bringing to work every day if I do end up with GD. I've been fairly consistent with 2-3 times a week of 30 minute elliptical workouts. I'm on my feet about 4-6 hours per day at work so that helps keep my activity level up.

Here's my usual day when I work- B: single nonfat greek yogurt cup Packet of oatmeal Cup of coffee with 1 splenda and milk S: clif bar L: peanut butter sandwich 3 individually wrapped prunes Single serve box of dark chocolate yogurt covered raisins S: pack of peanut butter crackers
Dinner is usually eggs/toast, frozen skillet or oven meals and a veg, pizza and salad, a meat/veg/carb combo.
For various reasons I don't use the work fridge, so if I want to bring anything perishable, I'll need to use ice packs in my lunchbag.

I feel like I’m doing okay food-wise (though I’ve made a nightly bowl of ice cream into a bit more of a habit than is probably healthy for me). I struggled with hypoglycemia with my first pregnancy, quite the opposite of GD, and it may have contributed to fetal growth restriction so I’m trying to eat small amounts frequently and don’t want to restrict what I eat. I’ll see what my glucose does with the GLT in a few weeks. I also started this pregnancy ~15lbs over my ideal weight, haven’t gained much yet, so I think I’m okay.
Exercise is where I struggle. I stayed very active throughout my first pregnancy (I jogged until about 30 weeks and hiked almost until delivery) and I really think it helped me feeling good throughout most of it and I was blessed with an easy delivery and recovery. I’d really love that again but other than 1 week of hiking earlier this month I have been a lump. It hurts that I got KO in the winter and that it was a long and brutal one, and I struggled with daily migraines for a while, so I’m basically in the worst shape I’ve been in for many, many years. I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate low-intensity something into my routine at least a few days per week. I hate gyms, exercise tapes, classes, etc, so that limits me. I really only like things that get me outside.

With DS I gained almost 50lbs and I swore that I wouldn't gain that much this time. As of now I've gained 10-15lbs less then I did with DS but since I started out 10 lbs heavier then my pre pregnancy weight I'm just about where I was with him.
I nursed for about a year with DS and my body just held on to that extra bit of fat. It wasn't until I stopped nursing that I started to loose more. At that point I got serious and began a high protein low carb diet and worked out 5-6x per week. I've definitely been craving carbs a lot and even though I eat pasta or bread everyday I try to balance that out with another non carb meal during the day.
One thing that I will do different this time is not wait as long to get into a good workout routine postpartum. I do a lot of beach body workouts so it's very convenient since I don't need to leave my house to go to the gym.

Nursing didn't help me lose weight either. (Nor did it keep my period away... Got it back at 5 months PP).
I had lost weight during my ttc journey thanks to weight watchers so I was 24lbs lighter then when I conceived DD. I am also trying to cook more and eat better this pregnancy. It's been going... OK. Haha

When I told my bff I wasn't going to BF she was shocked because "don't you want to lose weight faster?!?" I told her it doesn't work like that for everyone and she did not believe me. 😑

Yeah, I didn’t lose any weight until I weaned with both girls. My plan is to BF this time but only until I go back to work. I hate pumping at work so so much. On the fitness front I just got back from a 30 min walk. It was more tiring than it should have been but trying to feel positive about it anyway.

Yeah, nursing definitely did not help me lose weight quickly. I gained around 35 lbs with DS and the first 20 came off pretty quickly, but a good 10 lbs stuck around until I weaned. I BF’d until DS Was 14 months. BF’ing also did not help keep my period away. I think I got it back after 5 months.
Before I got KU, I was following a high protein keto diet and felt great. That all flew out the window at 14 weeks or so. I’m not overeating now but I’ve also gotten a little loose with my eating. I’ve been trying to walk at least 3 miles anywhere from 3-5 days a week, which has helped. So far I’ve gained maybe just around 10 lbs but there’s a lot more time to go and my prime weight gaining days are head of me. I really don’t want to gain 35 lbs again since I’m only 5’1 and my weight gain was probably a little too much for my size last time.

I usually gain weight in my mid section and not in my hips or thighs so for a long time postpartum I still looked about 3-4 months pregnant. I remember a couple people asking me if I was expecting again 😡I know the look on my face said it all but do not ask a woman if she is expecting, like ever!

Yeah I think the whole thing about nursing making you loose weight is one giant lie. I know way more people who held onto weight while nursing instead of the other way around, including myself. I did not loose the last 5-10lb of my pregnancy weight until I weaned DS1.
Okay, will you guys keep me accountable? I am making a goal to close all of my Apple Watch activity rings 5 days this coming week. Right now my goal is set at 350kcal, 30 min, and 12hrs standing/day.

But the last 10 lbs stuck around, so that's when I started working out and doing keto and it took foreverrrr to lose that last 10, and I still never got below 141 (started at 137). And then I gained 14 lbs back lol. And by the time DD weaned, I got pregnant again, soooo. Meh.

I was one of the lucky ones thst lost the pregnancy weight quickly with nursing. Hoping for the same this time, but we'll see.
I haven't been doing well with food or fitness the last couple of weeks. I need to do better.
