I worked out today. After how this week has been, I'm impressed with myself for following through with it.

And blueberries are on sale right now. I got an 18oz container for $2.98 and man are they good. I've eaten over 1/4 of them since this morning. I think I'm going to buy another on Tuesday before they go off sale. I've been doing roasted broccoli a lot too. Even though I'm using some olive oil on it, I figure it's still healthier than no veggie at all. I need the lettuce to get it's act together and stop trying to kill us. Salad is so easy and tasty.

Great job goldenbird! Also I consider olive oil healthy and wouldn’t discount the broccoli because of it.

goldenbird, olive oil is good fats! Avocado oil is also yummy. But expensive. *cries* I restarted tracking my macros after a 10 day break. It made me realize how few veggies I've been eating this last week. No wonder i feel like crap. Going to the store tonight and getting more veggies. H has a set list of what he likes (broccoli, carrots, onions, and asparagus) so that's what I've been making a lot, but I think i just need him to suck it up and I'm going to make whatever I want to make lol. Roasted cauliflower and zucchini sound so good right now. And beets.

I am amazed how much better I feel mentally when I am eating well and working out. I am feeling really tired the last few days but at least it isn't tired + ashamed of what I've been eating etc.

I know I said today is the day I would start walking after work before picking up the kids but I forgot they have swimming lessons so I don't have time. BUT, DH is taking them to lessons so maybe I'll go for a walk with the 18 month old. I rather not have to push a stroller but it's better than sitting on my butt reading the kid books.
Eating this weekend was HORRIBLE. We went to a French café for dinner on Saturday and I feasted on quiche, chicken roulade and potatoes, and crème brulee. Oops. And Sunday we went to the local Greek orthodox church for their semi-annual Greek dinner. I couldn't say no to a piece of baklava. I shamefully brought another piece home for tonight.
That said, I had a balanced breakfast and morning snack so far and I'm determined to turn my eating habits around (minus the baklava that I won't let go to waste).

I didn't like how fast my weight was creeping up at the end of March/early April, so I started tracking calories. When not KU, I usually track calories in odd numbered months just to keep me on track. It led to more veggies (yay!) and a lot more walking (even more yay!). I walked a ton during my last pregnancy, and it's hard to make it happen with busier schedules and a preschooler that can't always keep up. I feel pretty confident that staying in decent shape led to a reasonably easy labor/delivery for me. Anyway, I'm no longer tracking calories starting tomorrow, but still trying to keep up healthier habits, especially in terms of exercise.

This will be long I'm having a CTJ with myself today. I realized that there is a good possibility that the issue with my eye will be more long term than I thought. I can tell by how my joints feel that I've got some inflammation going on, which also lol you can tell by looking at my eye. Some of it is from the pregnancy but some of it is autoimmune stuff I'm sure. The problem is that until this current flare settles down, it's possible my eye will stay like this. It must be treated while it's inflamed. I could lose the sight in it if it isn't or other horrible shit, not to mention I can't function with it how it was. The eye drops aren't a long term solution due to side effects to the eye and I will have to start on oral steroids within a week or so if it is still inflamed. I'm looking into changing my diet to try and fight some of the inflammation. It's the only thing I can do to try and impact how long this lasts. I'm freaking out about the thought of having to go on steroid pills and stay on them for months. It would raise my risk for pre-e & preterm labor and generally wouldn't be great for the baby. And of course no doctor can tell me how long this flare of inflammation will last. I'm going to get in with a rheumatologist as soon as possible to get testing for Sjogren's syndrome started and I will talk with my OB on Wednesday about her views on oral steroids and with my ophthalmologist on Thursday about how long I can use the eye drops before I would have to start pills.
Tl; dr: I have to make some major dietary changes as soon as possible. Anti-inflammatory foods and limiting sugar.

I googled and came up with: Whole grains Oatmeal Blueberries/cherries/blackberries/raspberries Tomatoes & garlic (sparingly bc reflux) Spinach/kale/leafy greens Broccoli Olive oil Avocado Fish especially salmon Nuts Beans
Sugar is the inflammation devil and I ate three good sized cookies this morning 😣

For right now I'm going to keep my work food the same, but switch out the peanut butter crackers for packs of nuts. What I eat at home is the biggest problem. Dinner tonight is baked fish, frozen broccoli, and blueberries. Cutting out treats is going to be the hardest thing. I will probably do twice a week dessert so that I don't feel deprived. I'm hoping an increase of those foods will help. I have sucked at getting in veggies and fruits on a consistent basis.

I'm sorry goldenbird, that's really stressful. I think you're on the right track with looking at what you can do to help in the meantime. Also, that list of foods sounds delish if you really step back and think about it (at least to me).

goldenbird, also consider drinking tea... I think green and black are inflammation fighters but green is more powerful. I love iced tea of all varieties.

Green or white might be good. Black tea I'm suoposed to avoid because of the tannins since they can make reflux worse.

goldenbird, Glad you have appts with your doctors this week so you can have a plan moving forward. Changing dietary habits is never easy, but I hope it brings you some long term relief. You have a good plan in place for replacing some foods in your diet with better anti-inflammatory ones, while also allowing yourself to indulge on a occasion to reduce the temptation to binge. You have great motivation and good luck!

I've got to get back on the workout train too. Over the last two weeks I only worked out 4 times and the week before that 0 times. I'm going to commit to doing the elliptical tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week.

So I am really pleased with how the last few days have gone, fitness and food-wise. I have avoided carbs (except fruits and veggies) and have walked at least 10K steps a day. I have to go to a work lunch on Thursday where I won't have a lot of control over what I eat, but I'm glad to have gotten such good momentum leading up to that. It will help me make better choices among what is available.

goldenbird a lot of people in my paleo group follow an autoimmune protocol to help with their inflammation. I'm not sure if that's what you googled, but it's basically paleo (no grains/white potatoes, no processed food, no sweeteners except real maple syrup and honey) and also eliminates eggs, nightshades like tomatoes, and a few other things. Most of them have had good results on that. Good luck! I'm trying to stick to paleo and it's hard to let go of things i loved, but i feel so much better. My digestive system hates food.

so my H has been on the keto diet for the past couple of months, and i'm realizing that his weird diet is probably causing my mild anemia by association. i have been eating way less whole grains, beans, lentils, greens, nuts and just vegetarian stuff in general bc he hasn't been eating those things. i don't eat red meat, but i do eat chicken/fish-- but i previously cooked a lot of vegetarian meals, too. since i've been trying to cook keto-friendly, i haven't been bothering to make, say, brown rice or beans as a side bc H can't eat it anyway. so now meal-planning is going to be a god-damn nightmare, but i have to try to be more conscious about making sure i get more iron-rich foods. ugh.

kaeguri I just googled anti inflammatory foods. But that is a good resource and I'll look into it. I'm focusing immediately on more fruits and veggies because I'm really lacking in those. And lessening sugar.

I'm really sorry goldenbird. That sounds really stressful. I was also going to suggest a paleo and/or ketogenic diet. It's basically no processed foods or sugar. Keto is very heavy on the carb monitoring and you'll need to stay between only 15-20 g of net carbs a day. It's pretty strict and can be hard to follow so paleo may be a better option if that's too daunting.

goldenbird FYI it's not recommended that you do keto while pregnant or nursing. i'd go for a more paleo-style diet, limiting simple carbs and sugars as much as possible.

Well, I gained 8lb between my last OB appt and today, which is a lot. Whoops. I think I should probably stop eating 3 breakfasts and ice cream after dinner every night... But I'm sooooooooooo hungry dammit!!!!

Today I did PT in the morning and then went for a walk with a coworker at lunch. Already at 10K steps for today and feeling great! Why didn't I do all of this sooner?

Why so many treats at work?? I ate 1/2 of a monster cookie. I walked by the break room 30 minutes later and decided if the other 1/2 was still there I'd eat it. It was gone. Phew. Glad I shared the delicious cookie with a fellow coworker.
My schedule this week hasn't allowed me to walk alone. Walking with a 3 and 4 year old (while pushing a 1 year old) is not exactly exercise. I think we did a mile the other night so it wasn't horrible, but the pace wasn't brisk by any means. Last night I was out with my 3 year old on her bike. She stopped to look at every gosh darn thing. Focus child! Just keep peddling! This is why I NEED to make the time to go by myself after work before picking them up from daycare. I don't mind the leisurely stroller around the block with them, but not when I'm actually trying to get in some exercise.

ohreally, I love those slow, meandering walks with my girls but I agree they aren't great in terms of getting the heart rate up. We have been doing "nature walks" which involves picking 1 million dandelions along the way.

I got my workout in yesterday and I shouldn't have any trouble doing them the next three days since I'm off work. It's so much harder to do it after I've worked all day. I know at some point I physically won't be able to do much after work.
