NYMag posts an article on the women who might be up for the Democrat nomination in 2020 with the quote "Voters don't want to be in a position where they're being asked to vote for somebody who needs to be taken care of"
Ohnoshetwitnt's commentary are my feelings exactly.

Women are not helpless waifs looking for a man to help them get through life. Pretty sure H would be helpless without me around. I pay all the bills, do most of the shopping, and take care of our kids.

The victim trap? How about the fucking media portrays women as capable? FFS, telling the ladies they need to not be seen a certain way. EtA: obligatory I love Kamala Harris.

Wtf. And I’m not going to say Duckworth’s injuries don’t matter as a voter. They do. They tell me about her bravery in the face of danger, doing something many Americans do not choose to do. And, alongside her combat experience, they make me more confident that any decision she makes/votes for that involves our armed forces has been carefully considered by someone who knows the reality of war vs someone looking for a photo op or to look powerful. I do agree with some of the points in the article- like that when we talk about Kamala Harris the first priority should be covering her accomplishments. Same for Gillibrand, Duckworth, etc. But I don’t think we need to ignore the times they persisted in adversity because that tells us part of who they are, about their determination. After all, we wouldn’t expect a male candidate to pretend they hadn’t faced challenges.

The most absurd thing about this is that the examples they give have nothing to do with anything the women do on behalf of themselves. It's about how the media covers them. So...THE MEDIA provides sexist coverage of women candidates, despite whatever they're doing, then LECTURES THEM about not having sexist media coverage, in at least one case over MEN'S BEHAVIOR that they had no control over. Women: don't act like you need to be taken care of, BUT ALSO, can you take care of all of these men, too, who just can't help but being misogynist pieces of shit toward you, but are somehow your responsibility to fix???? Excellent point about media portrayals. Hmmm WHERE HAVE WE SEEN FEMALE CANDIDATES PORTRAYED DIFFERENTLY BEFORE?!?! I’ll wait for the list. I know it’ll take a long time to gather the millions of examples.

Today in "my kindergartener is more qualified to be president than our president"... I have heard so many stories like this from across the government and military. "Go back and dumb it down, then submit it to the WH"

Acknowledging that it was harder for a woman to even be able to run for president doesn't portray them as victims. It highlights their tenacity and capability.

Lets discuss that Romney has to primary in Utah. Because people are mad he went after 45. Because I find it pretty funny.
Also that Corker wont endorse Blackburn.
Like what is going on in that party?

It's headed for a split. For all the talk about how the Democrats are fractured, there is an ugly side to the GOP that a lot of people can't stomach anymore. I wish it was more that are already in office/attempting to stay in office, but 45 and whackadoos like Blackburn are turning moderates away. I just hope it's far enough away in the upcoming elections.
