UMD handbook for TAs tells women TAs to expect to be questioned and disrespected, and that it’s good practice for the future. Fuck that. (I saw later in the thread it’s been taken down.) I mean, it's not entirely wrong that you will be questioned more than your male peers in professional settings. But wow to having to be patient and pretty well accepting of it. Completely agree. I can see where they were trying to go, but they didn’t word it well and did not take the right tack with the “well it’s good practice *shruggy guy*”.

I think Barbara Bush leaves behind quite a legacy. It's one I respect. She was not like First Ladies before her. She didn't follow along with her husband's politics, and made it known, often raising eyebrows among Republicans when it came to women's rights issues. Anyway, I didn't know her, I am not mourning her. But I think it's important especially in this time of partisan politics, to reflect on someone who was known for working with those who didn't agree with her, forging strong relationships with them (my God she grew to love Bill Clinton for God's sake, lolz).
There just aren't many in politics like that these days anymore and it's sad.

The fact that to males that females will try to 'flirt for grades' is also insulting to women.

I just always remember thinking Barbara was old. I wish her family peace but she was 92, was able to go out on her own terms and thats more than some people get.

I'm speechless. This shit gets said to women in academia all the time but to put that shit on the website? That shows a colossal lack of judgement.

This WaPo article about how close 45 & Hannity are is making me ragey this morning. Hannity’s rising role in Trump’s world: ‘He basically has a desk in the place’ wapo.st/2qGxDKx

PR hit by island-wide blackout, 24-36 hours to fix:
Just imagine what could have been if all that money we're blowing on bombing Syria, building a wall nobody wants, drug testing welfare moms, sending the national guard to the border, etc was spent on helping PR instead...

Okay so I have a question about Mike Pompeo going to meet with Kim Jong Un. I feel like that is really, weird? Isn't that something a confirmed Secretary of State would do, not a CIA director?
Is that appropriate?

I didn't want to go to an 11 over something that could happen in another admin. I just never heard of a CIA Director doing something quite like this before. It is striking me as very odd.

Is that appropriate? This question was raised on NPR this morning and I was glad because I didn't know the answer. The corespondent described it highly unusual.

Is that appropriate? It would be necessary for high level staffers to start the conversations with each other regarding logisitics etc, (like in the WW episode where Sam & Toby meet with the Russians, Your president must wear a hat and coat and gloves....onomatopoeia etc) so its not necessarily the WORST thing this admin has done. He does have clearance etc, unlike Javanka

So the House cancelled votes for Thursday (so they can leave town?) and Pittsburgh police are preparing for protests. Looks more and more likely that Trump is going to fire Mueller. Marcie Cipriani @mcipriani_WTAE SOURCE: This is the email sent to Pgh detectives this morning. I am working to get a response from the city as well as additional details on the potential protests. #WTAE (images of emails under the spoiler tag)
