elle you took the words right out of my mouth. I didn't feel strongly about her one way or another prior to that moment, but I've never forgiven her since for those callous and casually cruel comments. I suspect we got a glimpse of her true nature in those words.

I suspect we got a glimpse of her true nature in those words. Huh. I’ve literally never heard many on either side of the aisle speak badly of her, or say she was cruel. I’m genuinely surprised by this. I think people sometimes say really stupid things. But I don’t think it erases the many good things she did.

The date on the press release. I would assume that was someone else's job, but it shows the incompetence of the entire administration.

The date on the press release. To be fair, I'm still writing "2006" on everything. I typed 2015 on a letter the other day. To be fair we assign job numbers starting with the year and i was updating something in a 15 job. But still.

I think there's room for someone to be courageous and effective in one area but deeply flawed in another. My feelings on Mrs Bush have always been mixed but nobody's Jesus--we can (and probably should) honor the good things a person does but also be cognizant of their flaws.
To be clear, I'm not saying we should excuse awfulness bc of other good deeds. I'm just saying that very little in this world is truly pure good or pure bad and almost all of life Ultimately is a gray area.

I would not be shocked if Nikki Haley starts getting frozen out more and more. Speaking out about Russia and being seen as "unloyal" is a first-class ticket to getting fired by tweet. "A former governor of South Carolina, Ms. Haley has assumed a more prominent role than most of her predecessors, at times eclipsing the secretary of state. And along the way, Mr. Trump has grown suspicious of her ambition, convinced that she had been angling for Mr. Tillerson’s position and increasingly wondering whether she wants his own job. Republicans close to the White House whisper about the prospect of an alliance between Ms. Haley and Vice President Mike Pence, possibly to run as a ticket in 2020." www.nytimes.com/2018/04/17/world/europe/trump-nikki-haley-russia-sanctions.html

The utter incompetence that is shown at the very basic levels of this administration is just... exactly what we should all expect.
I mean, I occasionally type the wrong date. It happens, but you'd think you would double check your work before posting it for the world to see.

@rocksforludo tbh I've been shocked that she has seemingly flown under Trump's radar this long A different report said she refused a couple times to change her tune on the sanctions thing after being asked by the WH. That plus the Lerner thing...she's on his radar now.

I have no feelings at all for Barbara Bush. Rest In Peace of course and I’m glad she got to choose to have her final time be with her family and in her own way. But I’m not mournful or really anything.

But I’m not mournful or really anything. I did cry all the way through reading a story about the death of her child. My uncle died of leukemia around the same time, although our family didn’t have the resources that the Bush family did so he only lived 5 weeks after his diagnosis. I saw how that loss affected my grandma, mom and all the siblings so it gave me a degree of empathy for their family that I didn’t have previously. Beyond that, I agree completely with your statement.

UMD handbook for TAs tells women TAs to expect to be questioned and disrespected, and that it’s good practice for the future.
Fuck that. (I saw later in the thread it’s been taken down.)

I mean, it's not entirely wrong that you will be questioned more than your male peers in professional settings. But wow to having to be patient and pretty well accepting of it.

I don’t know if this is interesting to anyone, but the pilot of that Southwest plane yesterday was a woman, and I believe the first female navy F-18 pilot, Tammie Jo Shults (I feel like I’ve seen her featured on A Mighty Girl?). Hot damn, I listened to the exchange she had with the control tower and she was so amazingly calm (meanwhile I was crying just listening lol). So bravo! to her.
I rode down the elevator with the Southwest maintenance/specialty crew sent to assist the NTSB investigation and repair the engine. I was like I guess you’ll be busy today...
