I'm so sorry for your loss.
I will tell you that when we went to my BIL's visitation and service there was a large back room for the family and all the kids were able to run around and play and be loud. His death was very tragic and unexpected and the kids actually brought so much joy to everyone during such a shit time. No one expected them to understand to sit quietly and be somber.

Update: It was maybe 5% as bad as I thought it would be. The girls were amazing once we got there. It was like as soon as we walked into the funeral parlor, they got it. A was especially amazing. She actually slept for 45 minutes of the wake (she was so tired, she passed out on one of the couches). Then she sat in the front row between me and MH during the 1.5 hr service part. Not only was she quiet and calm, but she also tried to hand out tissues, wiped my tears with a tissue, and then took mine and MH hands while my step mother gave the eulogy to try and comfort us.

I’m so glad it went smoothly. It’s amazing how kids intuitively know how to behave in certain situations. Again, I’m so sorry for your loss.

Oh mack. That’s so sweet. Kids really do “get it”. In their own kid way. I hope you got some closure today and let some of the immediate grief out. Hugs, friend.
