I loved this thread. The only place in Canada I've been to is Regina (the town that rhymes with fun) and Moosejaw as I was visiting my bumpie bff. It was excellent--even in the middle of february! i should probably hit BC at some point in life since it's like, 6 hours away.
I'm blown away at the Newfoundland pictures. Did not know until this evening that I want to go to there. Now It's high on the list.

There is just so much to unpack to even explain what a territory vs a province is and what it means and the history behind that.... I feel woefully under qualified and undereducated. The more I read the more I realize the version I got in school was fairly sugar coated.
I will present the territories for their beauty and places I'd like to see because they're the top of my list for where I'd like to go within Canada, but I feel like I'm doing a very lacklustre job. I won't be able to answer many questions so I hope anyone here who's more knowledgeable takes over!

Yukon, also known as The Yukon Formerly known as Yukon Territory Is this what you picture when you hear "sub arctic" or "costal tundra?" The Yukon does have a short and bright spring/summer period followed by a long, very dark winter. Home to many mountain ranges, famous ones including Tombstone Territorial Park and Mount Logan, second only to Mount Denali in North America for height. Note the tents. If you plan to visit you might want to like camping.

North West Territories aka NWT Nahanni National Park, Canada's first UNESCO heritage site. Some speculate there are several undiscovered species within the park, idk if this is a wink-nod about yetis or what. Diavik Diamond Mine... get you a sparkly souvenir eh Where is scoutboo when you wanna take a girl rafting 😞 If you aren't as up for adventure as most folks who travel to NWT You can still see some pretty amazing things from Yellowknife My friend is from there and just moved home recently to start a family. Her life looks pretty sweet! And there are just so many things I don't understand but want to see

Nunavut The newest, the largest, and the northernmost province/territory in Canada! Separated officially from NWT on April 1, 1999. I'm sure most Canadians here remember it well, it was a Big Deal. While Nunavut may only be approaching its 20th birthday as a Territory [creationists cover your eyes now] it was settled over 4000 years ago. There are about 33k people living there now, about 84% of them are Inuit and more than half are under the age of 40. From the official tourism website: www.nunavuttourism.com/plan-and-book/visitor-information/weather-climate/Nunavut is home to the northern most community on earth, called Alert. Because be on Alert motherfuckers, its cold up here. Jk. I gotta learn more about Nunavut and what I want to see and do up there. A lot of places are only accessible by plane or boat but I think that just adds to the adventure.

Thoughts and prayers. That city blows. Aww man, I feel like I should WK Moncton but I’m coming up with nothing. At least we just got Bubble Tea? Another Moncton person? Did you grow up there? What did your high school most resemble: minimun security prison, scientic facility or castle/dungeon? I am now wondering if I know people.

I grew up here, there is a quality of light that is so amazingly golden and heart warming. I'm an Alberta girl through and through. saw this view every day on the bus to school, still one of my favorite sights As kids we would drive out west to find wild horses like these Now I live here and get to see things like this, few things more peaceful that a grain field that hasn't fallen to hail waving in the breeze

OMG the territories are breathtakingly beautiful. Also OMG to -50°C temps in the winter and balmy high of -20°C in the spring.

I really don’t know where else to share this here, and feeling like it’s a little heartwarming in this thread and the numerous Humboldt shout outs, I just needed to drop this somewhere because it really does just feel like one giant hug right now Artist from Halifax (For the record, I’m not from Humboldt nor experienced a direct loss, but as many across the country have, numerous other connections and relative feelings too)

tiffrobot, as a Saskatchewan person, do you actually use the term "bunnyhug" or is that just internet urban legend?

OMG the territories are breathtakingly beautiful. Also OMG to -50°C temps in the winter and balmy high of -20°C in the spring. The territories also get full days of sun in the summer and full days of dark in the winter, for the communities further north. Some places, the sun rises end of April and doesn't set until mid August. It's surreal, from what my colleague (who lived in Nunavut) has said. Makes for a very long winter, though, when there are days upon days of darkness without even a hint of sunlight. I'd like to visit all of the territories some day, but I think I'm only built for visiting in June and July.

tiffrobot, as a Saskatchewan person, do you actually use the term "bunnyhug" or is that just internet urban legend? Oh, that’s real. I remember growing up and finding out other places DIDN’T call it a bunnyhug and I thought it was so weird! I and everyone I know still uses the term, despite now being vastly exposed to the online retail world from out of province referring to them as a “hoodie” 😉

I just really love the term bunnyhug but have never known anyone from Saskatchewan to ask if it's actually a thing people say, haha.

misskilljoy, I can confirm that the term bunnyhug (and it's usage) is not just an internet myth. It's very much used by everyone I know here (myself included) and has been for as long as I remember
