B's school jacket has been (temporarily?) misplaced, so I sent him in the least offensive one we could find. And by "least offensive", I mean it's black/gray with no logos or artwork. His teacher has already sent an email to all parents about dress code policy. Why the fuck is this being sent when I see kids there every.damn.day that do not follow dress code? I am sick of this shit. Is the uniform thing new there? No. I know this means we need to prepare ourselves for the inevitable and have two jackets for him, but this is still bullshit IMO. The policy states jackets have to be black or navy and without a hood. I have pictures from when I visited on B’s birthday and there’s a girl wearing a gold puffy jacket with a hood. I have pictures from field trip day and there are girls wearing pink jackets and a boy in a gray jacket with a hood. Maybe I sound petty, and maybe I’m internalizing this because it was our only option today, but I’m still annoyed.

I'm over today. I'd like to curl up in a corner and have a good cry. I think that will make me feel better.

So help McBenny if this turns into a fitness/weight loss thread again. I will just see myself out like always. I mean I have a small list of approved topics I can discuss anyway so I am barely here or there.

I have to say, I moved the scale out of the bathroom and it was freeing. I used to get so bummed at the number not budging and I was weighing myself so often (every day). It was helpful *for me.* I need to do this. Stepping on the scale every day is a terrible habit I have. Once a week has worked well for me. That reminds me that today is my weigh-in day. Also, since you are increasing your exercise, make sure to take body measurements. You may not see much weight loss, but you are likely to see loss in your waist circumference from exercise.

Once a week is a much better idea. It's just so easy to step on when the scale is there, taunting me. Especially combined with my need for instant gratification. It's having the opposite effect. *sigh* I did take measurements last week. I feel better. I feel stronger. Mh seems to think I'm looking better. I need to focus on progress, not that stupid scale.

I keep telling myself to do this and even got the measuring tape to do it because I seem to gain when I exercise, but I do know that something is working because I am going down clothing sizes

You are me. I am down pant sizes, but my scale isn't moving so I am beyond frustrated, but everyone has told me to go off my clothes and how I feel more so than the scale.

But people seem to think they can consume the number of calories (or roughly) that they burn. Especially for alcohol it's closer to like 25%. So for 5 oz of red wine you need to burn around 500 calories working out to cover it. This is true because the carbohydrate content really translates into 4x what is says on the nutrition information. Yeah, the alcohol isn't listed in the carbs, but like TB said, there are other issues with alcohol that people don't factor in. Even with food isn't not 1:1. You can't eat back all of your calories. The metabolic system isn't that simple.

Sorry to jump back to fitness for just a sec, but where is the best place to go for a body fat analysis? I've wanted to have that done for a while. I don't need super fancy, like DEXA results or anything.

I don't need super fancy, like DEXA results or anything. I was googling this a couple weeks ago. I've concluded that the bang for your buck is calipers. Buuutttt I bought a groupon for one DEXA scans two years ago. While I was there, they sold me a 3 scan package and I was able to use my HSA funds to pay for it. I've used one and will go back for the second scan this May. It's a really cool report.

I got some Gap workout shirts this weekend and used Gap Rewards, so two shirts for $6 was a win! Also, they changed the style of the Gap Fit t-shirts I love, which was really annoying to find out. Yes I am super annoyed they changed this shirt.

How can you tell the difference between just excess skin (I have a lot now) and actual fat? I'm ok in my dumbness, I think.

Why do so many things just disappear from my life? I am looking for burp cloths to send my sister and I only found like 4 out of a bazillion and I don't know where they went. I don't know how I manage to misplace so many things - and my house is tiny, why can't I find things? This would drive me crazy. I rarely lose anything. My life is in shambles, McBenny! I am going to get my shit together someday, I promise...

Yes I am super annoyed they changed this shirt. I loved it! It was tight and long and now it's baggy with a seam down the back. Stupid Gap. I wish there was a way to get a heads up from clothing companies when they're planning to discontinue or change standard clothing pieces. Gap does it to me all the time. I have three pairs of work slacks that I love, but they're all over 5 years old and I can't replace them.

(shockingly) I watched Mike Vacanti do an eyeball fat % on the weight loss poker brother and he mentioned that skin was a big part of what the brother thought was body fat. That makes me think that a pro could really help you tell the difference. But also look for a DEXA groupon bc it might be a treat yourself moment.

And GM is right about not all calories being equal. The nutritional value of your food (among other factors) determines how your body processes it. Food isn’t just calories, it’s a system of chemical messages to your brain and body. Poor nutrition leads to imbalances in your gut biome, which affects your body, your hormones, your body’s largest organ- your skin, and your brain. A good rule of thumb is that any food that is good for your body is good for your brain. Recent research is looking at depression as a by product of poor nutrition and Alzheimer’s at a third type of diabetes.
It’s all so fascinating.

There was one for Bod Pod, I think I'm going to try that. Not as good as DEXA but still one of the frequently used technologies right now. Plus only $14 so not too bad! ETA: Meh, never mind. I'm not liking what I'm reading. I may look at rates for DEXA scans around here without a Groupon.

thisbitch, my brother is all the way on the poor nutrition to depression train. He was in rehab late last year for severe depression and part of his counseling was with a nutritionist. He’s made a connection for himself that he feels wholly better when he eats a certain way and is even considering moving back with my parents so he can go back to school to be a nutritionist or dietician.

I’m out of town for work and H is not speaking to me. My DietBet ends this week and I really need to keep my nutrition in check. This all makes that extra hard. 😔

Thanks to you guys I’ve been reading about macros for breastfeeding. I’m trying to figure out if that can help me be successful without gaining the 30lbs I did last time.
