I didn't see a yoga thread yet, but I have recently gotten into it and feel like I am already addicted! I have suffered from various joint pains over the past year and I am already seeing such a difference with daily yoga practice. I swear it also helps with my stress and anxiety.
I have only done online videos so far (Yoga with Adriene), but want to join a studio soon. There is one right by my house, but their next beginner series does not start until August 1st, which is a bummer. It gives me more time to get comfortable at home though.
Anyone else do regular yoga? I would love some suggestions on good yoga mats. I need a new one as my cheapie Target version isn't cutting it.

I've been doing Piyo at home. Not sure if that counts.
I got my mat off amazon 5-6 years ago. It's held up well and is still pretty sticky.

I actually have Piyo, but have never done it. Perhaps I should dust off the DVDs and actually give them a try one of these days.

I practiced pretty regularly a few years ago, and my practice is now sporadic at best, but I am trying to make it consistent. I'd be interested in a yoga thread!
As for mats, you can get one very cheaply that's not bad at places like TJMaxx, but if you want to go all out, the Manduka brand is amazing. They will last forever, but they are expensive. I use the ProLite. I mostly practiced hot, so a yoga towel was also necessary.

pearbear, I'd also say you don't need to wait for a beginner series. Most places have regular classes that are more beginner-friendly, and when in doubt, you just look at what your neighbor is doing. Each studio seems to have its own name for some poses anyway, so it's just a matter of figuring out your studio or listening to cues.

I think I mostly want to do the beginner series because I am a chicken and scared of going the first time! Perhaps I will work up the nerve though. I want to get through some more practice at home and then maybe I will work up the courage to just go for it.

I've started the 3 week yoga retreat from Beachbody and I've really been enjoying it so far.

I love Yoga with Adriene so much that I don't have much inclination to try a studio so far. I haven't been practicing long at all but it helps me so much with anxiety, it completely changes my mood and outlook. As far as a yoga mat, I looked for a well-rated one on Amazon that had a design that appealed to me (it was a treat for myself).

+1 with Adriene. I also like SarahBeth.
I got a yoga class going at work. I've only been able to go twice since a co-worker (certified instructor) and I got it organized. Ok so I just found a space and spread the word, she runs the sessions. Love the option to walk across the hall once a week for a 45-50 minute session.

🙋 Yoga enthusiast here! I go to a yin class (deep stretching and relaxation) once a week. I'm also interested in starting to do an active class more regularly.

They had them for like $35 which is a great deal because they normally run $70-90 depending on on the thickness. I use a Manduka and I really like it, it did take a while to break in and get more sticky. Oddly my old cheapie was stickier but not as padded.

Also you can email the studio and ask what class would be good for you. Something like an align or restorative class could be good for you too. It helps you get comfortable in the studio without being overly strenuous and you can just learn your way around, use props, get to know instructors etc.

I would not consider PiYo and yoga to be similar workouts. I feel like PiYo is more intense in terms of cardio.

Hi! I was just coming here to ask about yoga and I saw this thread. I've been having lots of tension headaches and anxiety and just general malaise lately and I want to incorporate yoga at home. I have tried classes in the past and had an awful experience at a studio last year, so I think I want to stick to things at home for a while until I get learn at least the basics. I see a lot of people mentioning Yoga with Adriene. Is this a good series for a total beginner? wasabi I know you've turned into a yogini lately. Is that the woman you love? She has a ton of videos on YouTube. I started with a couple of her videos that were specifically labelled "beginner" and now I am working my way through her 30 Days of Yoga series. I think it is also targeted toward beginners (videos range from 12ish-30ish min depending on the day). She also has some for anxiety, stress, and relaxation that I have been doing in the evenings. Maybe throw some of those in there too!

HilarityEnsued I like Adriene - easy to follow and lots of different videos available. I'm a total beginner and can keep up.

I started with her 30 Days of Yoga videos. It was a really good way to ease in. She has a few other 30 day starter series, like Yoga Revolution and Yoga Camp that are newer but I haven't gone through those. This is the first one of the series I started with

So the longer is definitely worth it then? Pro or Prolite? I am so indecisive, but want to make the right decision because of price. Also, did you do the salt thing or just use it as-is?

I went prolite when I bought bc the Pro only came in black, and the Lite is still enough cushion. I hear the Pro is pretty heavy.

It's definitely more intense than yoga. Does your heart rate not increase during a session?

bobyn, I don't notice it really. I'll have to pay more attention. There are certain ones that probably do, but But if your base is yoga, most of what I've done in the past is more cardio focused (running, T25, 30-day shred), it would make sense that we view it as completely different, right?

I have the pro, but I've heard really good things about both. I don't mind a heavier mat so that wasn't a factor for me. Well, it was a gift from SO so I didn't really do the picking out anyways, lol. But yeah, I definitely suggest the extra long. I don't think I'll ever go back to regular size.

HilarityEnsued I get wicked migraines from tension headacheS. I have been doing a headache series and it has been sooo helpful. I just do it a few times during the work day to try to stop that cycle. I'll try to find the article it was on yoga journal. I also love Adriene.

Yoga brings me so much anxiety relief. I finally found a great teacher at my new gym and it's just so enjoyable. Also I saw this video on instagram and it is #goals http://instagram.com/p/BUeEOcRAPtV

To add to this - I like the fact that she is a bit silly and encourages you to move and find what feels good to you. It makes me feel like I am taking a live class with her and not some perfectly scripted video. I feel like I am becoming an Adriene fan-girl!

Hi! I do yoga 4-5 times a week. I used to be a total HIIT fanatic, and I got a groupon to the studio I belong to now and never went back. I've never done yoga outside the studio but we're on vacation next week and you guys persuaded me to try yoga with Adrienne.
Also, i'vennever tried the Manduka mats, but their towels are my favorite.

I love yoga. I do it once a week, Orangetheory twice a week. It's the perfect compliment to those workouts.
