Now that we’re nearly all second tri and so many of us are finding out the sex of our babies soon, I thought it’d be fun to have a place to talk names!
What’s everyone thinking? Have you decided? Narrowing it down to a short list? Are you telling people your ideas for names or keeping them secret?

DH and I are in just the earliest stages of starting to talk names. We struggled big time naming DD, we were team green with her and had 5 or 6 solid options for boy names all of which we both liked, and it took us the entire pregnancy to agree on one girl name.
Our last name is long and complicated, lots of extra constanants and is difficult to spell and say, so it’s important to us that our kid’s fist names be simple, not too unique, with only one spelling and pronunciation. They’ll be spelling out that last name for the everyone for the rest of their lives lol.
We’ll wait a couple weeks to know the sex this time before really digging in.

With our first we had a boy named and a girl name decided. We've stuck with our girl name so it was an easy decision for us.
Baby will be Jane Lourdes with additional family surnames as is normal for Portugal.

DD is named Wi.llow Ros.alee (separated just for google purposes) so we will most likely stick to another earthy name. If you knew us, we just wouldn't have a normal baby name. It will be different. Although I have been toying with some really old fashioned names. I also like ideas incorporating family names. We didn't keep DD's name secret so I doubt we will for number 2.

With DS we had a boys name chosen before pregnancy, but in early pregnancy we could not decide on a girls name. Luckily DS was a boy so that took care of that issue! This time though, I feel pretty confident in a girls name but am having a really hard time with boys names! Maybe that's a sign 😉 But if we're going Team Green then I gotta have a boys name ready too!
I like names that are uncommon but not too wild. The boys name I keep coming back to this time I'm worried is going to be too popular and I won't like that. I think it's floating around 100 or so 🤔
We didn't tell ANYONE DS's name until he was born and we'll do the same again. I'm not even sure I'll want to say it in here! Haha!
Boy or girl, baby will have first name, middle name, my surname (as a second middle), DH's surname. Same as DS. I didn't change my surname when I got married cause I like my name and don't feel that I should have to change it! 😉

Our name we picked out previously if DD was a boy would have been Le.nnon M.ars. SO is still big on it, but I'm not as strongly for it as I was. I have been throwing in the name Fern for a girl. DD loves Charlotte Web and Fern is earthy and goes with her name really well plus, old fashioned. Lucia is one I wrote down too for possible middle name because of my Swedish ancestry.

We were team green with DD and had two boy names and two girl names and decided after she was born. We named her El.iza Gr.ace. we haven't talked names at all for this one because dh is ridiculous when we talk names and always suggests super far fetched names that you would never use for a person. We had a really hard time deciding on boys names so we'll probably keep the two we had, Ell.iott Ja.cob or Ben.jamin Tay.lor.

blurnette989, I love the name Jane. So cute! Everyone's names are really cute. Our problem is that I have 1 girl name I was very set on but DD came up with a name and is convinced it has to be that name if it's a girl. I like the name and it sounds good with her name. But it's after an older girl that she played with at the park at her grandparents house. She's been obsessed with the girl and name since. So we'll see. I may take this to the name board later on but how would you pronounce the name Matias?

I LOVE Fern pixiepink24. I want you to use it just because I love it and wish it sounded better with DD's name.

Girls names always seem to be easier for us, so I'm betting this one is a boy too 😄 DS's name wasn't decided until I was in labor. I will be happy either way, but I would really love to use my favorite girl name.

We kept L's name a secret until she was born, but we were also team green. When she was born we had the girl name picked but were waffling between two boy name options. We'll probably do the same this time, not tell anyone potential names because I reserve the right to change my mind.

Thank you for responding tbirdlove and blurnette989. That's not too far off from the Finnish version which is how we would pronounce it. It would be more like MAH-tee-ahs with emphasis on MAH (like you might call your mom "ma"). I have no idea if that makes any sense haha.

We're not even close to deciding on first names! We unintentionally went with a last names for first names theme, and now I'd like to keep it going (at least for boys).
It's also silly and I will probably give up on it, but I sort of want a "J" name this time around (DS1 starts with P & DS2 with B, so then we'd have a PB&J). But really, nobody would notice, and it's not like we include DS1 when we write out our names on cards and stuff, so I should probably just abandon that thought!
Middle names we do 2. If baby is a girl her names are decided. It'll be Nich.ole Cyn.thia for a close friend and MH's mom who have both passed. DH hasn't agreed yet but if baby is a boy I'm leaning towards Jethro Lawrence. My SMIL always wanted to use the name Jeth.ro, but she never ended up having kids. She has been a huge support to MH and I and I think she would be honoured if we used it. Lawrence is the anglicized form of MH's grandfather's name.

I'm half-Irish and love Irish names so I really wanted to go that way with DS. My big family knocks out a lot of good contenders then MH put some rules in place for what he'd be willing to use. I really liked Ryan and MH agreed he liked it too so that's what we went with. His middle name is after my maternal grandfather so he's Ry.an Jos.eph.
This one we haven't really started talking names yet, but we seem to have stumbled upon a strong contender. They were talked golf on SportCenter last week and were talking to Rory McIlroy which put the name on my radar, but I didn't say anything to MH. Then we were watching the Masters coverage Friday and Rory comes on screen and MH goes "what about Rory?". So we stumbled upon a name we both apparently like that also happens to fit in with my love of all things Irish.
I'm just trying to decide if it's weird to give kid #2 a 4-letter R name when big brother already has a 4-letter R name. We only plan on having the 2 kids so it's not like I'm starting a Duggar thing over here. And we didn't go looking for an R name, the one we've come across just happens to also start with R. Thoughts?
We kept DS's name a secret until birth except for my BMB and one IRL friend, and we'll do the same for this one.

Nymeria, no, I don’t think that’s weird. Unless DS1’s name is Rody or Rony or something. I’ll love the name Rory, although I was not pulling for him yesterday 😊

Nymeria I love the name Rory and I don’t think it’s too similar to brother Ryan. Yes they’re both 4 letter R names but they have different vowel sounds and they don’t rhyme.

flutterfly88 I think the PB&J thing is adorable. Maybe it narrows down your options too much but I think it’s sweet.

DS is Ryan. I'll watch golf but it's not my thing so I didn't care who won. MH was hoping Rickie would pull out the win.

flutterfly88 - There are some good J name options so if you find one you like I think the PB&J thing is cute, but I wouldn't necessarily use it as your goal just so you're not limiting yourself to one letter.

Nymeria love Rory! We had decided last pregnancy on Alexandra for a girl and Andrew for a boy. I am personally set on Andrew again, SO is not yet sold. We both like Colin, Charles, Hudson. But I don’t like any of those as much as I like Andrew so I’m waiting to see if my husband will come around. For my son’s birth we went to the hospital with a few names and I will not do this again because I ended up having an emergency c-sec and in my sedated state kind of “settled” on a name. So this time I want to be prepared. I do love my DS name, but still feel a way about how it went down. It was basically you can’t leave the hospital until you name your baby type pressure. I remember very few details from those first few days, but this is what I’ve been told how we settled on his name.

Nymeria I really like Ryan and Rory for sibling names! DS is an M name and I really kinda want another M name cause I like how they sound together. The girl's name I'm pretty confident on happens to be an M name and sounds great with DS's name! And the top contenders so far for boy names are also Ms. And all are two syllables. I have issues.... 😆

Bumping this now that so many of us know the sex.
Now that we know it’s a boy DH and I are digging in and talking names more seriously. It’s important to DH that we use Carl for a middle name, it’s DH’s middle name and FIL’s first name. I’m cool with this, it’s one decision made.
We have a few boy names leftover from DD (we were team green with her) and a couple of new contenders as well. We are okay with common names. It’s important to me that the name be easy to spell and say (our last name is a beast). We like names with one syllable nickname potential. Some contenders so far:
Gregory Carl - our top boy name from last time Simon Carl Liam Carl - unsure about the flow of this Henry Carl - would probably use Hank as a nickname, I love it but it’s not everyone’s taste Lucas Carl - or maybe just Luke not Lucas? David Carl
What do you guys think? DD is Ella June if that helps.

chriskoo, My favorites from that list are Gregory, Simon and Lucas. Luca/Luke/Lucas is on the more popular side though, if that matters to you. I agree Liam Carl doesn't flow as well as the others, but it's not terrible (but again, super popular). I like that Gregory and Simon are classic, but less common in this generation of little ones.

We've added Caleb to our boy name possibilities, and might be inching away from the boy name we would have used for DD, Declan. Middle would still be Scott (family name). Girl name is still in the air, but Felicity is a top contender. MN would likely be Eugenia (MH's late mother's greek name). Our last name is super common, one syllable, so we want to choose a name that is established/old fashioned/classic-ish, but not super common or trendy. DD's name is Cec.ily Patr.icia

chriskoo - I think with a one syllable middle name I would go multi-syllabic for the first - so Lucas would be better than Luke IMO, but you could always use Luke as a nickname for Lucas. Liam is my favorite on your list, but I'm biased towards it because it would be a top contender for me if I didn't have a first cousin already named Liam. Lucas and Henry would be my #2 and 3, although I think they're all good options.
