But we've been joking that J would train before M because he's so aware about that. He tells me he's pooping and tells me to change him. But he's not even 2 yet. Is it crazy to try? How old was her youngest?

How old was her youngest? You could try to do them both at the same time. Always nice to have a buddy during the learning process. If J doesn't get it, there is still more time, but it would be a great introduction to it.

So how about if your kid still poops almost nightly? He sometimes goes just that once but usually twice a day and has no problem using the toilet by it think he just sleeps through it at night and it happens when he's relaxed. I'm ok with pee sheets but I can't be doing poop! He's been Day trained for 9 mos and asks to not wear a diaper at night but I'm too scared. Also scared to unlock his bedroom door at night so he can go to the bathroom.

Re: Training - S has been trained for less than 2 weeks, but he is totally that all or nothing kid. He told me last night that he didn't want to wear a diaper to bed. Not yet, kid, not yet. But like some of you said, I believe they are ready for that when they are ready. S has already started waking up dry (maybe 3 or 4 nights since he's been trained?) and he will sometimes wake us up already if he has to go in the night. Today, for instance, he woke me up at 5:45 screaming that he had to pee. I got him into the bathroom and sure enough, he had a dry diaper and peed in the toilet. Unfortunately he was then up for the day Funny thing, mamabear, S can not go by himself yet but he can, and does, totally wash his hands by himself. He usually doesn't want any help from us.

My other fear about waiting until it naturally happens is that my nephew who is 10 just started not using a pull up at night. His mom was of the belief it will happen when it happens. His brother is 7 and they just stopped for him as well. Once the parents initiated and took the pull up, they trained.

peachsmama, If you have multiple bathrooms (or multiple floors) I recommend more than one location for the potty as well. Also, oddly enough, S prefers the ring for the big toilet in one bathroom and the little potty on the floor in the other bathroom, so it's good to have variety just in case. Also, let him pick out the additional underwear if you can - or surprise him with something he REALLY likes. This helped us. He has superheros and Star Wars and he gets excited to pick out his favorites (today it's Yoda - he walked into Day Care and pulled down his pants to show his teacher).

peachsmama, I would give it a shot. B was too young when we trained E, but now he insists on "using the potty" (aka standing in front of it and then flushing) after E uses it. If I were training E now, I'd definitely give it a shot with B, too.

wedding, I think that's....different. Forcing a kid who is 10 to ditch a pull-up is different than a 3-4 year old. I've read it can be normal for it to take until 5yo or later to night train, but 7 and 10 frankly just sounds like a parent who chose to coast (baring a medical reason for waiting).

It took a really long time for Lucas to stop having accident at night. He still does occasionally. He's 5. But we stopped with the pull-ups at 3, so he didn't use them as a crutch.

To be clear, no judgment from me -- I put my kid back in pull-ups because of night accidents! My little sister wet her bed until she was 6ish. Some kids take longer to get there than others, but 10 is excessive for using pull-ups baring a medical need.

Oh I knew there was no judgment! 😊 I was agreeing, some kids take longer and you may have accidents for awhile, but barring a medical need I think it's better to ditch the pull-ups when you can. Ryland can pretty much hold it through the night, and dh takes him and Lucas potty before he leaves for work at 4:45. And the only reason we started night training ry is because we ran out of pull-ups and I was too lazy to go out.

That was the hardest part for me.

My sister's kids were all night trained by 4. The youngest ended up wearing pull ups at night again when she turned 5 & went to school. She'd sleep so hard she wouldn't wake up to pee. After 9 months she was able to ditch them again.

You bitches... always knowing when I need to do something I don't want to have to do. With M starting his new school in the fall, I want him to be night time/nap trained so he doesn't have any accidents for nap since he can't have a pull-up there. I've been pushing this in the back of my head because it's just one more thing I have to deal with. Now that you all are talking about it, I feel like it's now or never. Guess we'll be trying to start that this weekend... it would be great to have that done before this baby arrives.
