but seriously Betweenthelines, bright side, it doesn't sound like his appendix is bursting...stay positive on this - you caught it and you know the next steps that need to be taken to fix it. Tell your H to stop pushing things off for so long!! And call the doctor back when they open. If it was life threatening, they wouldn't have left a message and they would have kept calling until you answered. Hang in there, first quarter is almost over, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the next 3 months are better for you!!

the other side of my office is flooded. guess what our weather forecast is today? 95% rain, thunderstorms, high winds, hail, and possible tornadoes. In an office that it rains inside of now. Fun times today. I can feel it.

This is what I keep telling him, trying to talk him down, that if it was that serious the Dr would have been readily available for his call back.. But you know, once you're in your head about something it's hard to hear anything rational..

Yesterday, I went to the gym and then worked 12 hours. I didn't get home until almost 10 pm. My legs and hips were killing me. Luckily H had J asleep already. I fell asleep around 11:15 and then at midnight J woke up because his diaper leaked (thanks H - I blame him, obvi), so bedding and J both needed changed. I think my fitbit says I had 4.5 hours of sleep. I absolutely am trying to get out of here early so I can go lounge around for an hour or two before daycare pick up.

Good morning- I’m going to try to get the kids out for a bit this morning. I want to go for a walk and to the park before it starts raining. We have a few hours before it starts and it’s not supposed to let up until Friday. It’s supposed to be a lot of rain too, so I really hope there aren’t any more mudslides. We got out to the beach yesterday and it was low tide... that’s Worm’s favorite time and place!

So on top of potentially getting 12" of snow tomorrow, we are now meeting with a general surgeon at 1pm. The Urologist told h "I don't think it's some big cancer, but it's definitely something that needs to be addressed ASAP" I'm mad at this dr's bedside manners, happy that this doctor has nothing to do with the surgery since he's a urologist, and worried AF about this whole situation.

Betweenthelines, so many doctors have the WORST bedside manner. How are you and YH not supposed to be nervous when he says shit like that?!

Pizzaslut, MH is in real panic mode, and I'm keeping a strong face when I'm with him, but I'm all sorts of hysterics inside. I want to cry, scream, breakdown. But I can't. I'm trying to be positive for him, but damn.

Betweenthelines- thinking of you guys! I’m sorry you guys are going through this, I know it’s scary, hopefully it’s nothing. The appendix is supposed to be a pretty easy surgery (I have no experience with it). We’re here for you and I hope everything gets resolved soon.

mrspiatt, The appendectomy isn't even what we're most worried about. It seems like a very routine/common surgery. It's the unknown of this growth on it is that is the most unsettling.

I meant it more of at least it’s one less thing to worry about. The end of 2016, I had to have a bunch of scans and tests because they thought I had colon cancer. The biopsies were all normal (thankfully), but it was so scary. I really hope it turns out to be nothing for your husband.

Do they have to do surgery to do a biopsy before the actual surgery?

Do they have to do surgery to do a biopsy before the actual surgery? I think it depends where it is. I had a colonoscopy, so it was through a scope. My dad has had several biopsies and some were arthroscopic and some were during surgery. I don’t know what the criteria is, but I don’t think one is an indication of anything more serious, if that makes sense. ETA- my guess with your husband is they’ll remove his appendix and biopsy the growth at that time. It wouldn’t be a separate thing.

mrspiatt, I'm hoping it's just a one off surgery; remove & biopsy. All of the unknowns are killing me. We'll find out more tomorrow afternoon.. Fx they don't cancel the appointment for snow.

Betweenthelines Do you know if the urologist sent the scams to the surgeon you're seeing tomorrow and consulted with him? Because if not here's the thing, the surgeon might not want to do surgery immediately. If it's a growth many times they want to wait x amount of time from first scan to see if it grows or stays the same because that can indicate course of treatment (if there is further treatment). My thought based on nothing credible is that the urologist thought surgery because it's an organ that's easy to live without. If the surgeon is saying go ahead I'd ask if it appears to be touching/affecting other organs and what they think it could be. So many fucking hugs, you've had several people's share of shit to deal with this year. I wish I could fly up and cook for you guys and generally help with life. Love you.

armpants, the urologist sent the scans to the surgeon today before we meet with the surgeon tomorrow, so I guess tomorrow we figure out a plan of action. Thanks for the question to ask. I'm completely at a loss right now and I need to make a list of things to ask.

Betweenthelines, I'm sorry you have one more thing piling on. I hope that there is a swift plan of action and that the course of action is the simplest for all. Hopefully, they will quickly do a surgery, test whatever they need to test and everything will come back fine.

Betweenthelines, i know they will biopsy it once removed. during my thyroid surgery, they took a sample of it down to the lab right away and tested it. the results were the ultimate determination of removing only 1 side of my thyroid or entire thyroid.

Betweenthelines my BFF had that exact thing happen to her and she got hers removed as well. They did a biopsy after it was out. There is a very very very good chance that it is just nothing at all, and removing an appendix is easy, and you don't need it. I don't know if it is good news or bad news but if it is the nefarious thing that has surely crossed your mind, the only kind on an appendix an extremely slow growing kind. The dr told her it is cured by removing the appendix, and that if it had been left alone, it would've taken 25-35 years to impact her health. So don't panic. Even if it is absolute worst case, it's going to be ok. SO MANY HUGS. I was going to spoiler it but you always click them anyway

Betweenthelines usually with any type of concerning mass they will do a biopsy. Depending on the size and the location it will be an excisional biopsy or an incisional biopsy. An excisional biopsy is when they take the whole mass out and then look at it under the microscope and an incisional biopsy they just take a piece of it. It sounds like he is thinking that it will be excisional which seems to make sense if it is attached to the appendix. Full pathology results take several day to get done but sometimes they will do a frozen section which can be done right away to get preliminary results. Usually this is done if the doctor thinks it will change what he does intraaoperatively. Does that make sense?
