View AttachmentDoes the phrase ‘needy families’ make anyone else pause or just me. Especially in a news story used twice. i feel like im sorta being overly sensitive but still there has to be a better phrase Yes, it’s defining them entirely as being needy. They’re more than that. I think this is a very dated term. It reminds me of my grandfather. Essentially his life’s work was volunteering to help lower-income families via a charity he was heavily involved with. I never sensed condescension or a white-savior complex from him, but he used the term a lot... like “the needy” or “needy families”.

Regarding talking to people while voting- I mean, I wish they had more limits on how close to the polling place people associated with campaigns can stand. There are laws here. That don't get enforced. When we voted in 2016, the people for 45 were standing so damn close to the polls and handing out stickers to kids. When we didn't let the kids take them, the 45 people weren't happy about it. They weren't super rude or threatening, but I didn't feel comfortable and we gave them a wide berth when we left.

I believe ours are enforced given that every candidate’s people seem to be the same distance from the door. I just hate that it feels like you have to walk past them to vote. I have made up my mind before leaving home, leave me alone.

It wipes out any and all chances at intimidation.

They stand at each of the 3 other corners and at the lot lines of the polling place, ensuring in order to actually get to the door you have to walk past them.

Basically I want them gone from my path to vote. The only people I want to talk to while voting are the precinct captains when I ask them for my ballot and tell them if I want paper or electronic and then to wish them a good day as I leave.

Omg at Peggy Noonan saying that Trump isn’t as cultured as a Neanderthal on MTP. She apparently would hate to have people thinking she would disparage Homo neanderthalensis. 😂 I found myself agreeing with Peggy a couple of times today which felt weird.

Still not understanding the hate on Maggie Haberman. Her job is a reporter? Her beat is the white house? She needs access to people working in the white house to do her job? This is how NYT has attained so many of the scoops we foam at the mouth over? Liberal Twitter is mad she doesn't make public statements that would alienate her sources? Someone point me to the lie.

China passed a constitutional amendment to remove Presidential term limits, which was instated in 1982. Current president, Xi, set to rule for life. Vote was 2,958 in favor, 5 very brave souls voted against.

Other reporters do the WH beat, have sources in the WH, and still seem to be able to report. Having access to an inveterate liar like POTUS will ultimately backfire. Best approach is to have the Lester Holt approach—ask the hard questions to maintain your dignity and be ok if he never gives you another sit down. I can see how that serves an image but how does that serve the public?

Did anyone watch the Devos interview on 60 Minutes? My mom watched it and came away really angry with me for considering private school for the boys. I need to watch it on the DVR to figure out why. I was just watching clips. In this vast dumpster fire of an administration, she stands out as particularly fucking horrifying.

I read part of the transcript, but not enough to answer your private school questions. Apparently she’s likely to be put in charge of coming up with school safety solutions. So, uh, watch out bears.

The clip I watched was her saying “let’s invest in students, not buildings.” And then saying how studies show public schools actually improve when students have other options...which she couldn’t back up with receipts. She also admitted she doesn’t visit under performing schools?
