C&p from other thread bc it's a big deal
Iiiiinteresting. Chris Steele was busy. Looks like he found evidence suggesting that Putin blocked Romney from becoming SoS. And then conveniently installed an Exxon exec who had been awarded the Russian medal of friendship?

I'm still reading the whole article but orly?
"Robert Hannigan, then the head of the U.K.’s intelligence service the G.C.H.Q., had recently flown to Washington and briefed the C.I.A.’s director, John Brennan, on a stream of illicit communications between Trump’s team and Moscow that had been intercepted. (The content of these intercepts has not become public.)"

And this will never not enrage me:
"But one Gang of Eight member, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, expressed skepticism about the Russians’ role, and refused to sign a bipartisan statement condemning Russia. After that, Obama, instead of issuing a statement himself, said nothing."

I mean, it does sound like it came from 1 source based on rumors of what people were whispering about in the Kremlin, so at this point I would take it with a grain of salt. It would be a very serious accusation, though.

This is also nuts.
"Ultimately, though, McCain and Kramer agreed that McCain should take the dossier to the head of the F.B.I. On December 9th, McCain handed Comey a copy of the dossier. The meeting lasted less than ten minutes, because, to McCain’s surprise, the F.B.I. had possessed a copy since the summer. According to the former national-security official, when Kramer learned about the meeting his reaction was “Shit, if they’ve had it all this time, why didn’t they do something?” Kramer then heard that the dossier was an open secret among journalists, too. He asked, “Is there anyone in Washington who doesn’t know about this?”"

Jesus. I didn't know this.
"In Russia, there were rumors of a more primitive kind of justice taking place. During Glenn Simpson’s testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, his lawyer asserted that “somebody’s already been killed as a result of the publication of this dossier.” Who that could be has been the subject of much media speculation. One possibility that has been mentioned is Oleg Erovinkin, a former F.S.B. officer and top aide to Igor Sechin, the Rosneft president. On December 26, 2016, Erovinkin was found dead in his car. No official cause of death has been cited. No evidence has emerged that Erovinkin was a Steele source, and in fact Special Counsel Mueller is believed to be investigating a different death that is possibly related to the dossier."

So, in conclusion, I highly recommend you read that article. It has everything in one place and the timeline is clear and it pulls in new info from the Democrat House Intel memo.

There were definitely stories about at least two Russians dying under mysterious circumstances, maybe in between election day and inauguration day. I don't remember details, but I do remember deaths.

I can’t find the tweet now, but it was a reporter talking about the subpoena list from the weekend - questioning why Pence wasn’t on the list, especially since he was in charge of the transition.

That’s what made me think the list of people was for Pence- lie those are the ones they want his communications with. I’m finally done reading the Vanity Fair article. It’s really long but very helpfully laid out.

Renato makes a good point about the subpoena: it's probably not aimed at someone in Trump's inner circle, bc that would produce thousands of documents, many of which are unrelated to the investigation. But the names on the list are definitely of interest to Mueller.

I’m slowly working my way through the New Yorker article, but this line about Steele’s day-to-day life made me laugh: His free time is devoted largely to his family, which includes three cats, one of whom not long ago replicated the most infamous allegation in the Steele dossier by peeing on a family member’s bed.

Paul Ryan is moving legislation to block Trump's trade tariffs. I can't believe I agree with him on something but I think these tariffs are a gateway to runaway inflation. I agree. Everyone clued in says this will have nothing resembling the desired effect and will just anger Canada and Europe.

BBC Breaking news: another poisoning A man who is critically ill after being exposed to an unknown substance in Wiltshire is a Russian national convicted of spying for Britain. Russians are known for polonium poisoning and a lot of people are not trained to know the signs. From what little is out there, that’s my thoughts

Oh my...It's still crazy that no one seems to care that POTUS was paying off porn stars from an affair that happened when his youngest child was a newborn. This type of behavior is just expected from him. The party of family values and the ten commandments, indeed.
