Interesting. The DNC is moving to reduce the number of superdelegates by at least half and may move to eliminate them entirely. There's also discussion about open primaries.

I’m against all of these moves. They should kill caucuses and leave superdelegates alone. I think it’s supremely stupid to do things that give non-Dems more control. Also caucuses are not feasible for lots of people so they are their own form of voter suppression. I was following along with our caucuses yesterday and they were such a shit show. Started at 10 am and most of them went until like 7 pm and a good number of them devolved into yelling matches and ward leaders just leaving without a resolution. I do the presidential primary caucuses where they allow you to vote and leave but for the local seats, you have to spend multiple full days to really have any say. It’s fucking ridiculous.

When we were watching the coverage of the Iowa ones I was stunned by how antiquated it seemed and how many people would be unable to participate. I know some people at the time had some positive things to say about the caucus experience but I would love to see them go. Aren’t they chosen by the state though, not the DNC/RNC?

I don't understand the argument that caucuses would make it easier for people to vote. It seems to be that it would make it harder.

I think that argument only holds in the setting that only white males can vote. When I said something about being unable to caucus with small children someone goes “well then you hire a babysitter”. Yeah, and then they can’t caucus!

Regarding talking to people while voting- I mean, I wish they had more limits on how close to the polling place people associated with campaigns can stand.

Why don’t you? Personality or how she covers the WH? How she covers him and how she gets prickly when questioned. Last night there was a prime example in how she explained Trump saying 52% of women voted for him. She said that refers to only a subset but the real issue is it only refers to white women and that’s all that matters to him and by glossing over that, she gave him a pass. Soledad O’Brien called her out on it. I saw that too. I agree about how she responds on Twitter. I think she gets a lot more shit than say Jonathan Swan or Josh Dawsey but engaging carefully and thoughtfully is part of being on that national stage and being in a position of such significance. I see a lot of people going after her saying that she writes her stories in a way that maintains her access and I don’t agree with that. I think her reporting has proved to be pretty solid. She applies a critical lens to what she’s being told. I think a lot of people on Twitter don’t actually read the articles and just respond to tweets. (Not saying you.)

Minnesota did switch to a primary for the 2020 presidential election (woot) but not local elections.

Omg at Peggy Noonan saying that Trump isn’t as cultured as a Neanderthal on MTP. She apparently would hate to have people thinking she would disparage Homo neanderthalensis. 😂

Unrelated to elections, but apparently a former Russian spy/double agent for the U.K. and his daughter are hospitalized after being poisoned with a nerve agent and the areas that they were prior to being found unconscious are closed for decontamination. 3 guesses on who might be responsible and your first 2 don’t count.

They are recommending that anyone present in those areas have all of their possessions cleaned as well because of potential exposure. This world is fucking nuts.

I should confess that I am one of those ppl that canceled my NYT subscription because I find them unprepared to deal with this moment in time. I wish we could cancel subscriptions to all editorial pages everywhere. Only newsrooms.
