Full time K is now probably the only reason I'm thinking Josie will do another pre-k year. Emotionally, the full day would destroy her now (this could be different come August) and I don't want her to hate school bc of it. Fortunately this is one aspect Colin will be ready for. But I think back to me as a kid? My Mom ran a daycare in our home so we were ALWAYS together. Going to kindergarten even for a half day was traumatic for me and I cried every single day for months. Sorry Mom!

snoopmommymom wineallthetime she is heavy set/wide build, so I guess she didn't notice? Nuts though! Like I saw her every day and didn't suspect anything. The day she went into labor she was tired and that the baby was super low and the pressure was getting to her at night. Thankfully she has family around since she's single!

joelies kinder already? I'm not ready for that. Don't move to CT, haha. We have the latest kindergarten cutoff in the country and all attempts to change it (and there are attempts every couple of years) get tossed. Not so coincidentally, we also have one of the largest achievement gaps, as wealthier families can afford quality care in the early years and truly have the option to delay kindergarten. Poorer families need to get their kids into public school ASAP. So the comparisons are often (on average) younger kids with no prior schooling compared to older kids with extensive pre-school and pre-k instruction. Colin falls somewhere in the middle since he's had such amazing teachers and is used to a full day program. He's also psyched about school. Little butthead. Socially and emotionally I think Cadence would be fine, but I feel like she might struggle academically right now. She is still struggling with letter recognition on some of the less frequent letters. They got to I think O in preschool, then she moved up and they started all over again at A, so we're still working on some of them. She did successfully spell half her name by herself last night though. She always gets stuck on that darn N. LOL

wineallthetime I was always a minivan hater and didn’t want one but it’s worth it. The doors ALONE are amazing. Open/close with a button... never have to worry about hitting other cars. It’s nice to have the space to haul friends as well. We will keep ours until Letty is in a booster at least. I recommend the Odyssey or the Sienna. MH did a ton of research and those were the top contenders! Holy shit tallb!! I will never understand how people don’t know for that long.

Sorry Mom! Prek in the district we want to move to is at the school (it's actually a pre-k to 8 building). I feel like if she goes for half-day pre-K (they have snack and specials there) then it won't be so much of a transition for her because she'll have the familiarity. She had zero issue this year in the 4s, I know she was older, but the prior knowledge helps.

I think the Sienna might be the only awd minivan. It's great in the snow.

He loves learning, practicing whatever he's learning, and most of all, showing off what he's learned, LOL. That said, his fine motor skills are more than lacking. Compared to a lot of his classmates, his handwriting is borderline illegible and he still seems to prefer one hand for a month or so, then suddenly switch. And you can guess the one thing he HATES to practice!

IDK how you don't feel like there's an alien doing gymnastics in there and think, "hmmm, something's up."

Does the teacher have older kids? I realize my perception is so colored by my own experience with PPA/PPD, but I can't imagine how hard it must be to be thrown into motherhood with so little notice. I got pregnant intentionally and those early months were still brutal.

O is already at the elementary school at full day pre-k so his transition to K should be minimal. The only new thing will be the bus. MH and i already agreed we will put him on the bus the first day of school then cut through my neighbors yard to get to the school so we can be there when he gets off the bus to make sure he knows what to do. The school is super close but the district busses all kids.

Re family nearby: my parents, aunt and inlaws are lifesavers. I could not imagine doing this without them. I mean during the day I could arrange daycare, but they also help so much with the occasional night out, doctor’s visits, school meeting etc.
Re kindergarten: I’m in awe of most of your kids already writing etc. Most schools over here, but waldorf in particular, do not starts reading/writing/math until 1st grade (around 6yo). School is just play based until then.
ETA school is four half days now, five half days when he turns 5.

I just spent the night painting doors at ds’ school (old building they just moved into and there’s still tons to be done). Oh the things we do for our kids.

Lol, we are looking at moving beyond minivan lyfe and entering Suburban/Tahoe territory. My inner zero-waster is cringing. My DH currently has an 03 Yukon and it is way too big for me, I hate driving it. My older sister has 4 kids with an expedition and minivan.

This reminds me, wineallthetime and cagoldi are you guys getting new vehicles since you’re having a 3rd? I know I just got a new vehicle 4 months ago but I’m thinking/planning ahead and am trying to decide what I want to get when we have our 3rd. As much as it makes me hate myself I’m starting to consider a minivan. I have all the mini van love ! I was always a “never minivan” person but now I’m starting to change my tune. I would obviously want to test drive and whatnot before making any decisions. It’s either that or a Honda Pilot at this point.

Not caught up yet but cagoldi, yep! That was me. 20 weeks, my doctor thought it was a fibroid so sent me for an ultrasound. I was on the pill and had my regular spotting one day a month so had to reason to suspect anything. I only went in because of the feeling of sleeping on a tennis ball when on my stomach.

If we ever get a car I really want a 7 seater. I like the idea of being able to take my sister and her boyfriend with us to go somewhere or to bring home a friend from school. But I’m thinking more space wagon than minivan.

I know there will now be eleventy anecdotes about irregular periods. 😆 And I know you don’t know her personal lyfe tallb. It’s more just rhetorical. I couldn’t imagine how I wouldn’t know for that long. Here’s my guess, since I’ve read up on it a little bit out of curiousity (plus my friend’s older sister didn’t know she was pregnant until she was like 28 weeks or something so I’ve heard about her perspective). She was probably using a birth control that either stops you from having your period or makes it infrequent like every 3 months. The baby moving could be chalked up to indigestion or gas (plus some babies really aren’t that active in utero. I didn’t feel H till like 24 weeks and mostly only felt the big movements). Some people really don’t gain wait until they are 6+ months along, and depending on the person maybe only gain 10lbs their whole pregnancy so a slow weight gain may not be noticed. If you really didn’t have it on your radar that you could be pregnant I can see how it could be missed, at least for a while.

guster and sands42 I’m considering the Chrysler Pacifica or the Honda odessey. This is probably dumb but I don’t want the Sienna because of S’s name. I like Toyotas otherwise.

I want to say that the new Hondas were planning on going the way of all wheel drive. Will be by the time you're ready to purchase one, it'll be available.

I always swore I was #nominivan but my parents rented one this summer when we were all up in Maine and it was SO great. I think since we're stopping at 2 kids, I'll keep an SUV of some sort but if I had 3 I'd make the switch. DH's next vehicle will likely be a Tahoe or similar so that will give us the towing capacity he wants and the ability to haul stuff if we need to.
+5787384 at not understanding how you could not know you were pregnant that late in the game, but BIL (OBGYN) sees it all the time.
