So my Grandpa has been feeling sick lately and they finally did tests on him this morning and he has massive congestive heart failure and it's only functioning at 15%. So they will be putting in a pacemaker and defibrillator probably today. My grandma has advanced Alzheimer's and he is her primary caretaker so of course he's just worried about who will take care of her. Any good thoughts for his surgery are appreciated. I'm sorry, I hope his surgery goes well.

So I didn't realize, or I did and forgot, that I needed to get all new nipples for the bottles. Why is having a baby so expensive??? Wait... Why is this? I was planning on sterilizing and reusing mine.

I was planning on sterilizing and reusing mine. I think the rubber can break down over time and bacteria can grow. I’ve always heard to replace bottle nipples and pacifiers.

Hugs cp3. My grandma had surgery this morning too (just a hernia) but she’s the one who cares for my 2.5yo DD when I work so I had a lot of stress and feels about it. Praying for a smooth and quick recovery for your grandpa!

cp3 Praying your grandpa's surgery goes smoothly! I'm sorry so many are cramping today. Hope those babies and utes calm down, especially for those that could do with some more baking! The latest on my ridiculous deep-cleaning list is scraping off some of the super gross caulking in our shower, and bleaching the caulk I think can be salvaged. We rent, so we're just replacing the band-aid the last renters put on (removable caulk vs actually redoing the grout) but I'm really just pretending that I'm handy and trying not to sniff too many bleach fumes. I wish DH had a single handy or DIY bone in his body.

Womp. cp3 thinking good thoughts for your grandfather and whole family.

Thanks guys. I just hope my grandpa takes the time he needs to rest and recover from this instead of taking care of everyone else. One of my uncle's had a massive stroke two years ago that left him partially paralyzed and his wife basically kicked him out a few months ago because she didn't want to take care of him anymore so he moved in with my grandpa so he's been dealing with that on top of my grandma.
Luckily my other aunts and uncles help out and can step in for now but they'll need to figure out a long term solution for my grandma.

Thanks for the info mrsmonogrammed and cornpop. I just ordered new nipples online, along with several adorable summer outfits that were too cute to pass up 😬. So much for saving money this time around!

So I just got out of L&D. I was for sure having contractions this morning but by the time I got there they were gone. Now I’m just going home. I wish I knew what the deal was. It was definitely not Braxton Hicks. Everyone is just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I feel like an idiot. I’m the girl who cried wolf I guess. They just said come back if it happens again.

This is what I have heard too. DH was not to happy to hear this. I have had problems finding newborn nipples for the bottles we have. I ended up just buying a few new bottles, and I will go from there.

They could have been real contractions. It could be prodromal labor - real contractions that don’t organize themselves into proper active labor. Hugs. I hope you can rest a bit.

Yes, don't feel like an idiot at all ArielMermaid. I had prodromal labor for weeks with DS and those contractions definitely aren't Braxton Hicks. Its alarming when it first happens, and calling a doctor is a reasonable thing to do. Next time it happens, do the rest, drink water, relax thing and time them for an hour. Get a good app for that if you don't have one already.

I can't believe how many of you are crampy, possibly having some contractions. I know I have had some contractions, but nothing consistent or productive. My OB checked me at my appointment yesterday and everything is locked up tight. I guess I will find out on Monday how long the MFM doctor's think I should go with this pregnancy. In November, or whenever my 1st appointment with MFM was I was told 39 weeks, which is two weeks from tomorrow. cp3, sending thoughts and prayers to your grandpa. I hope everything goes well with his surgery.

Don't feel like an idiot ArielMermaid. It's better to get checked and have it be nothing. I'm glad they stopped though.

Thanks guys. It was four hours of like every 15 minutes. I really thought something was happening. Do not want. 31 weeks isn’t enough weeks.

Also, prodromal labor isn't useless. Your body is getting ready. Prodromal labor can be slowly dilating or effacing the cervix. BH don't do that.

Someone said it perfectly yesterday - was it ovenrack? - there are far worse things to be embarrassed about then trying to be a responsible adult looking after your medical needs. I'm glad it didn't end up in a early baby ArielMermaid, and I hope you can rest and put your feets up.

I have my GBS swab and a cervical check next week and I hope these cramps are doing something at least. I have my GBS at the next appt. Last time they let me do this myself and I asked my bff IRL (who is about 2.5 weeks ahead of me) if she got that option and she laughed at me and told me I was stupid (in a nice, friendly way). I preferred doing it myself and I hope I get to again this time. Did anyone else get the option?

leatherpants i guess i would never think to ask if i could just do the gbs swab myself. that would great to have one less pantsless appointment. well i just had a phone consult with neonatologist and i guess i should have been expecting what she was saying more. i’m super sad and disappointed i won’t be getting the hospital experience i thought i would. while there are no plans to take her immediately after birth, i will only get 30 min- hr with her before she is taken to special care. which is going to feel like 2 seconds in that moment. she will have her own room and i was assured that everyone will be super accommodating to h and me, but this just sucks. i’m also pretty sure they won’t allow visitors under 5, but i need to get clarification. there is also a good chance we won’t be taking her home with us when i get discharged. i know this situation could be worse and it’s all to make sure she is ok and to figure out what this cyst is, but i’m just crushed

And its totally ok and reasonable and expected to be disappointed.

I'm so sorry polson, that's all definitely worth the crushing disappointment. I'm glad their outlook for her health is good, but I don't think many people would be exactly thrilled to have their baby whisked away for whatever reason. *hugs* I hope if she doesn't get to go home with you, that she does get to follow you very shortly. I can't begin to imagine how hard it would be to leave without my baby. <3
