Eh, I could see that with Will. His privacy is so important to him that I could see that protocol as a way of maintaining the line between staff and his family. Keeping up tradition, like, a way to keep them at arms' length. Making sure they don't feel too chummy and get too close. Not saying it's good or bad. She is very deferential to royal protocol and seems to fall in line, so she'd go along with it.
Obviously one of us needs to abandon our children and SO to join the household staff and report back, NDA be damned.

Been working my way through another documentary on Netflix. Called The Royals. They go over Weddings, Funerals, Royals as Teens, Royal Babies and then Royal pets. I watched the first 3 last night after my kids were in bed. My H now thinks I'm crazy for watching all these Royal family docs lately lol.
They spent a lot of time talking about Diana's funeral in the funeral episode. They said that her brother was kind of a hypocrite, because when Diana and Charles' marriage was falling apart, she asked her brother if she could move back home, and he said no because of the media presence she would bring.

I can see Will being strict with protocols and privacy. I just hope that the power of him being future king eventually doesn't go to his head.
As for Kate, she forgot to curtsy to the queen going down the aisle at her wedding lol. She made up for it on her way back down the aisle.

I thought their housekeeper quit because the hours were getting longer and they wanted her to travel back and forth to London with them vs their country home? Who else has quit in the high turnover?

Re Will and the wedding ring- I thought Royal men do not wear wedding rings per protocol.

See stuff like that is why I could never handle being a Princess. I’m not great at being deferential.

I think so. They had a Royal etiquette expert on the documentary talking about it. I laughed because they showed the Queen's face as Kate just passed her without curtsying.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about the Queen in pastel and black gloves.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about the Queen in pastel and black gloves. TBH I kinda love it. It’s unexpected, she’s front row at Fashion Week, and she’s sitting next to Anna Wintour. It looks younger to me than, say, white tea gloves.

Exactly. The royal family owns her. It’s not like she could have just not listened to them and left the house wearing black and no one would be the wiser. Everything they do is carefully controlled and calculated. I think she did the best she could given the circumstances. It’s not like it’s bright red. It photographs dark. And we all think we make concessions for our in-laws, at least they don’t have final say on my wardrobe! OMG quoting myself to add, And I didn’t have to curtsy to my MIL at my wedding🤨 Edit-Grandmother-in-law not MIL because my brain hates me

If the queen lent me a nice tiara I could be persuaded to curtsy to her.

Will Megan have different curtsy rules since she’s not British?

Will Megan have different curtsy rules since she’s not British? No I don’t think so. She is becoming a citizen and part of the family.

If the queen lent me a nice tiara I could be persuaded to curtsy to her. It’s not so much the curtsy for the queen that has me “um pass”, it’s something about having to curtsy to your MIL.

Can we discuss non British Royals too? Prince Henrik of Denmark died. There’s a decent amount to spiral on with him- he’s the one who announced last year he wouldn’t be buried next to his wife because she wouldn’t name him King Consort, which has apparently been an issue throughout their 50+ year marriage. Bumping this because his funeral was today. Prince Henrik wanted to give his wife one last surprise so he had something special planned for his service. He requested that the funeral wreaths be arranged as a “blooming garden.” This was in reference to the speech he gave at their wedding. I love that he planned something so thoughtful for his wife to see at his funeral.

At least when Prince Charles and Camilla are both there. Granted in a nice twist if Camilla is present without Charles and Kate is there with William then Camilla is supposed to curtsey to Kate. (learned this morning from spiraling after the Kate forgot to curtsey to the Queen at the wedding comments)
